    Thank you for this. Ive always loved putting items from Nature in my tree such as pine cones, owls (not real ones. Lol.) and cinnamon sticks. I have always preferred them to other ornaments. I think Ive been a Pagan all my life but didnt know it! Have a lovely Yuletide.

    I celebrate the dusting of snow ❄️ in the quiet desolate park, the frozen ice puddles, the smell of pine, and nothing else that has to do with Christianity or traditional Christmas holidays I can't accept how people act during this time of year, the selfishness, the fact that so many animals and people don't have enough to eat and people care only about presents also cutting trees and discarding them , no Ill just enjoy mother nature and how beautiful her creations are this time of year.🌲❄️🏔️🌡️🌨️

      I agree with you for years now, Jasspraah Bluefeather. This time of year is just too commercialized from the ancient times & traditions. Problem being that there is not a lot to share with. Blessed be

    In Denmark we walk around the Christmas tree (with real candle), holding hands while we sing the old Christmas songs, before opening the present in the evening of the 24. of December.
    As a child me and my brothers got one of our present in the morning of the 24. December, because the many hours till 8-9 pm was torture.
    Have a nice holiday and a merry Christmas 🌲❄️⭐️

    I have always been Pagan. During Christmas Eve Candlelight service
    it was the light from the candles that thrilled me as a child. I always
    would have my own tree in my room...at the Tree Yard when I was young
    the five foot trees were only 1.00!! The Pagan beliefs, when I finally
    studied them, seemed as if I knew them all of my life.

    In Poland it is the Christmas Eve when most of the magic happens. It is so amusing to me that all these traditions are so pagan and yet people don't realise it. For example we put hay under the tablecloth during Christmas Eve dinner and most people would say it is because of little Jesus layed on hay after birth but hello, it was old prosperity and divination purpose. Also traditional twelve dishes that was supposed to be served that evening were a kind of good charm for the next twelve months. There are a lot of another beliefs that are much older than christian traditions.

      The trees brought inside, the lights in the windows, the holly and mistletoe and evergreens......so much woven together in an attempt to erase and subvert a belief they didn't agree with.

    Some of Americans don't celebrate Christmas, we don't have Christmas trees inside , and we just have dinner. We just celebrate Winter Solstice.
    We give thanks to spirits and souls whom help us in our lives.
    All modern celebration is marketing profits. No one celebrating the four seasons , gives thanks to spirits of earth and universe, etc...
    I read about different pagans rituals around the world, then mix it together.
    I like your video.
    I am glad there is still pagans in the world. Bless you all.

    I grew up in Germany and we celebrate St. Nikolaus (who was turned into Santa Clause) Day on December 6. Children put their shoes in front of the door on the evening of December 5th and hope for little treats the next morning. There was no Santa back then for Christmas, it was the Christ Child who brought the presents on Christmas Eve.
    Which is really what Christ Mass is about - to go within and be Present with the Christed Light, God Spark, Source Spark .... whatever resonates.
    The Church took over this Peagan celebration. Jeshua was not born in December 😉
    Happy Winter Solstice (Birth of the Sun) 💖🙏🏻💖 Much Love and Yuletide Blessings

    In Sweden there is the Lucia Tradition on the 13th of december (wich was originally the date of the winter solstice in the julian calendar before the reform to the gregorian one). The Lucia visits the villages with a crown of candles on her head and brings the light (she is greeted in the morning when the sun rises with a choir). It is kind of mashed up with a christian saint, but lots of its elements are pagan and a solstice celebration.:) The tradition is so popular that it is now also slowly migrating to other countries, like Germany.

    Where does the idea that Father Christmas is the 'Anglo-Saxon Old Man Winter' come from?
    The earliest English reference to Christmas personified is in a carol attributed to Rector Richard Smart (1435 -1477) - a sung dialogue between someone representing 'Sir Christmas' and a group welcoming him.
    During Tuder and Stuart times there was 'Captain Christmas', 'The Christmas Lord', and 'Prince Christmas' who presided over aristocratic feasts.
    By the later 1600's 'Father Christmas' is acting as the presenter in mumming plays.
    'Old Man Winter' smacks of being a modern neo-pagan creation - certainly not Anglo-Saxon and no such character appears in English folklore.

    Carols are 'deeply, deeply pagan'?
    And puritans thought that women singing carols were witches?
    Any evidence for these assertions ?
    The puritans disliked carols not because they were literally pagan but because they were deemed 'popish' - carols were seen as being too Catholic.

    • @GinnyMetheral
      @GinnyMetheral  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you look at the origin of say 'the holly and the ivy' you will find folk songs (pagan in their entirety) that most English carols can be traced to. I suggest that you investigate these points yourself, as the sources that I use are many and varied.

    • @Wotsitorlabart
      @Wotsitorlabart ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GinnyMetheral
      There are no pagan folk songs that carols can be traced to.
      There are no pagan folk songs full stop.
      For a song to be (genuinely) pagan (and I assume we are speaking of England here) then that song would have to be some 1400 years old, Anglo-Saxon and have lyrics in Old English (at least originally) There are no such songs.
      The oldest known song in the English language is 'Sumer is icumin in' from the 13th century.
      There are very few folk songs that are older than the 17th century with the vast majority 18th and 19th. The same goes for Christmas carols.
      The earliest known version of 'The Holly and the Ivy' is from the 18th century and the lyrics are patently Christian in their message.
      But if you are alluding to the 'holly and ivy' being 'male and female' and that is a pagan belief well there are numerous 'cut and paste' references to this online but as usual no actual evidence. Some claim that holly and ivy was thrown onto Bealtaine fires. But historian Professor Ronald Hutton in his book on the British ritual year 'Stations of the Sun' makes no mention of either in the chapter on Bealtaine traditions - he does, however, mention rowen and other plants.
      There are, however, medieval sources that speak of this male/female link to holly and ivy.
      And the puritans may well have believed female carol singers were papists - but I can find no evidence that they thought they were witches.

  • @Wotsitorlabart
    @Wotsitorlabart ปีที่แล้ว

    The Druid mistletoe story and the presenter's description of the Druids using it for decoration is dubious to put it mildly - we know next to nothing about Druidic rituals. And although evergreens as Christmas decorations are well attested from medieval times the earliest reference to the use of mistletoe is only in 1648 - there is no unbroken link back to the Druids.
    Kissing under the mistletoe is a purely English custom that developed from the 18th century 'kissing bough' - once again not Druidic nor Celtic in origin.

    • @GinnyMetheral
      @GinnyMetheral  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually Julius Caesar wrote about the druids and their use of mistletoe... Maybe you should research this better before disagreeing....

    • @Wotsitorlabart
      @Wotsitorlabart ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GinnyMetheral
      Actually, it was Pliny the Elder in his 'Natural History' completed in AD 77 who provides the one and only source for the Druids and mistletoe.
      'Natural History' is notoriously inaccurate - factual and fictional data, unsupported claims, fables, exaggerations, and Pliny's belief in magic and superstition are all mixed together. The story that elephants are scared of mice comes from 'Natural History'.
      'The Penguin Guide to the Superstitions of Britain and Ireland' points out the following:
      Pliny was writing about the Gauls not the British.
      We do not know where or from whom he got his information - he is describing events he never experienced first hand.
      There is no corroborative evidence to support Pliny's report.
      There is no other mention of the supposed sacred nature of mistletoe in Britain until antiquarians began reading Pliny some 1500 years later.
      There is no evidence such Druidic practices continued into historical times - or influenced later lore.
      And it's interesting that if the Druidic traditions did continue to resonate down the ages then such mistletoe beliefs would surly be found in the 'Celtic' areas of the British Isles. But they are not. Modern mistletoe beliefs are English later imported into Ireland, Scotland, Wales etc.
      Botanist and plant lore expert Roy Vickery writes in 'The Oxford Dictionary of Plant Lore' - 'More nonesense has been written about mistletoe than about any other British plant'.
