A truly wonderful message spoilt by the noise in the background. Sad to say, it was not music, I would say it is the subtilty of satan to distract the listener. Please, please do not do that, allow God's word to come forth without hindrance and the Holy Spirit to do His work in a atmosphere that befits what RC was speaking about.

A timely sermon. Many Christians take worship in Church for granted. In my church, some come late for service, dose off during service, come dressed inappropriately, chit chat during service, playing with their phones while the service is going on etc. All these they do in the holy presence of God. Would they do the same if they were invited to attend a meeting with someone very important like the King? God is above all and yet some do not show Him reverence and claim to be worshipping Him. May God help them to be faithful and fear God.

I have lead the worship in our church for 3.5 decades(just retired). I was gloriously, magnificently, miraculously, wonderfully saved at the age of 19. I was radically SAVED! I was in a rock band and when I became a believer through reading the Bible(Good News for Modern Man) I was able to appreciate the church's older music and hymns. But I also liked worshiping with more modern style music. We sang scripture songs, hymns, campfire songs, etc. Some of the lyrics I remember from then were not weighty but they still helped give expression to the love I had for God. If R.C had been in our fellowship he might have thought our worship was light and frivolous(or he might have not). Man, he would have been so wrong if he had. My heart exploded with love, honor, and respect for the God who revealed Himself to me through the Word...every time we met and gathered in His name! Through the decades of leading worship teams and congregations I have used old lyrics(1700's even) and I have used new ones. I may have hit the mark with song choices and I may have not. But the one thing I always kept in mind in choosing songs was that the Lord would be glorified and magnified in our worship times. Spirit and Truth. "Be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts". Ephesians 5:18 Peace and Love in Jesus, Y'all!

Many people make the assumption that “if it moves or blesses them” then God must approve.
God often times will use a buzzard (a dirty bird) to feed His prophet because they are hungry.
I suspect that the blessing(s) you received as a young Christian had more to do with your desire to grow closer to the Lord and less to do with God’s appreciation of the music you listened to.
Would you agree that God drew you closer to Him IN SPITE of the things you mentioned and not BECAUSE of them?

This really stirred my heart. I have given up on finding a church that hasn't bought into this change. Praise teams have replaced choirs and drums are the main instrument along with guitars to satisfy the youth and their need for a beat to sway to. They read from a screen lyrics that have been written by new christians, by the sound of the shallowness of it. It is usually accompanied by colored lighting and other stimulating features. I absolutely hate it and feel so far from the Presence of God in it. I thought I was the only one that felt this way until I heard this and read the comments. I don't feel so much alone now.

Max, I feel the same. You're not alone. I'm in my 60s and being in a church as been a big part of my life since I was born. I stopped going to church a few years ago and now have a closer relationship with the triune God than ever before, and more of a spirit of surrender. I live in a conservative region where there are many churches. The mainline large churches have gone left-wing and are dying quickly or have died. Small churches that have tried to stand true to the Word have very few members. They are dying also. Where have all the believers gone? To the many large, popular, youth-seeking mega churches that have sprung up, with the rock concert atmosphere, the rock beat, words on the big screen, and the pop church I was going to even has a smoke or fog machine behind the band that fills the stage with fog to artificially produce the effect of a spiritual atmosphere, getting people to think wow, the Spirit is present in this place. Churches like these are catering to the rebellious youth who feel "I won't go to church unless you give me what I want! I left and never returned when they had a kid on stage doing a rap song and he was dressed and moved like a rapper. I discern that rap and hip-hop is nothing but satanic. God's Spirit in me got me so uncomfortable with the whole scene that I couldn't return. I tried a few other traditional churches in the area and they were either dying or were popular, but deceived by the forces of darkness, like the rock beat mega churches which have compromised, brought in and embraced the pop culture, the spirit of this dark world, the enticement of the sin of Balaam, and have blended it with Biblical teaching. BAD NEWS. We are not to love the worldly pop culture but are to be separate from it. Now, I watch Through The Bible with Les Feldick and tune in to Transformed By Grace lessons by the Berean Bible Society each day, and learn and grow in the Lord. They teach and preach the truth of God's Word, rightly divided, and my life has been transformed.

My family was searching for a new church because we just moved to a new city. We made a list of churches to visit. When we were on about the 4rth or 5th church, we were already tired of looking. We prayed that if the next church is not right, make it evident that those doors would be closed and we should move on. Due to a mishap with directions we were 3-5 minutes late. Worship had just begun and we were about to go in. However, the ushers would not let us in. They said that anyone coming in after worship has started would be a distraction to the moving of the Holy Spirit. (I have several questions about that belief on how anyone could distract the Holy Spirit?) They were shocked when we smiled, thanked them and left to go to the next church on our list. The doors were in fact closed and the next church on the list became our church home. I have wondered how many people did not get to know God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit due to such practices and judgement.

Well no one can separate me from the love of God. It’s not even to say those churches were wrong, I don’t think the usher that was protecting the sanctuary from interruption, wasn’t bc the HOLYGHOST wouldn’t or couldn’t move, but that humanity would be distracted from the interruption that they lost out bc of the lack of focus of the person. Of course the word says, if you seek me, you will find me. So that was probably not the church for you, idk. What I do know is if the church isn’t preaching the Word Of God….they will doom many ppl…..but we are responsible for our own salvation. What we learn and love is what we need to share, not what humanity has done to fail us. Let the worry of the day be sufficient for the day! Quick to judge other, May God forgive us and heal our land! I always try to be on time. But I have to be there a couple hours before church starts. I guess it could be a distraction to some people when people walk in late, however we do not stand guard at the doors and stop people from coming in during worship. We would never do that. It fills my heart with joy when I see a new family walk in, on time or late. No one is going to be on time every single week, especially if they are in a new town and do not know their way around. Are we more afraid of upsetting people or upsetting Jesus? It's a form of denial, to care more about our feelings rather than boldly witness for Him. We need to get out of our comfort zone and rise up in defense of christ, get out there and save our fellow human from eternal hell.

I'm from Auckland New Zealand. The church we attended was the Assembly of God. Our Pastor wasn't actually an AOG pastor.
I was born again only a few months when my Father in law said come to this fellowship. I knew nothing of The Spirit, very naive indeed. But when put my first foot through the door, I was hit, so to speak with this heavy presence, which I discovered later was His Presence. The musicians always played prior to meetings, it was so beautiful, that very people spoke, instead we sat, most of us with our eyes closed. As it came to start the meeting, Dan Stradwick who lead Worship stood and immediately started with Praise. There was never introductions, no announcements of any kind. Upon entering the building the greeters-ushers gave out Weekly Newsletters with All details.
We spent over an hour, with no interruptions. I thought I was in heaven, as Worship slowed down, we would all sing in the Spirit, the musicians too, I had never heard anything like it, and neither have I experienced this today.
I cried all the way through, this went on for years. The singing in the spirit was so beautiful. I recall our Ps saying- Never go into Praise songs after we've been in Worship. He was a Worshipper.
Sadly he went to Australia. We found another good church, until this Pastor left. Then In the nineties I became extremely frustrated with most of the new songs written. In fact I couldn't tolerate most of them. I would talk to God, tell Him, this is not the Worship You require. Today, the frustration has grown worse. I spend so much time crying, and saying to The Lord- Worship is all about You. Words that have no- Me, You or I in them. It's ALL about You Father.

I’ve been working near Pittsburgh. I decided to drive into town to look at old churches. While driving the backroads I saw a line of cars turning in a long drive leading up to a large newer Catholic church. Wanting a closer look I turned up the drive. The lot was full and people were walking toward the church. They were dressed like they were going to a sporting event not a worship service. I really didn’t think much about it. Thought it was cool they were going to church. I got to a neighborhood in Pittsburgh and sat outside an old stone church admiring the workmanship. After about ten minutes the service ended. The doors opened and I sat there amazed at how everyone of the worshipers were dressed. Men in suits and white shirts ladies in dresses children in their Sunday best. I felt something watching them and it made me feel reverent. The contrast hit me.

I’d rather go to a how of worship where people dressed casually but had the right spirit than go were people looked good but were all fake.

Worship is much deeper - it honours WHO God is in all His character, in all His awesome wonder and might. The recognition of His authority and sovereignty should cause us to fall on our knees in reverent submission. The elders in heaven cast aside their crowns and prostrated themselves. True worship must come from spirit (not flesh) and truth.

Many decades ago, when I was a young seaman in the British Merchant Navy, and a very young disciple of Jesus, I learned this lesson in Melbourne, Australia. When I was in port on a Sunday, I always tried to attend a worship service - denomination almost irrelevant. That Sunday, I ended up in the Episcopal church in Melbourne - a massive red sandstone building. I increased the congregation by 100%! The vicar was there - and his wife - and me! However, it was during the communion which, as a Presbyterian was unknown to me, that the vicar uttered these words: "With angels and archangels, and all the host of heaven, we laud and magnify Thy holy name." I had an epiphany, as I realised that that vast sanctuary was occupied, not only by three human individuals, but also by angels and archangels, and all the host of heaven! Hallelujah!
By the way, while it is true that "those who can't do, teach", my recollection is that those who can't teach are left to teach the teachers!

But I know if I stay into the flesh, for want of a better word....that's it. I know in humility the difference between the Holy and the profane. When I am playing with others in the fellowship ... we are NOT there to entertain people. We are there in an understated expression of worship to help the fellowship praise God. We do not become entertainers. Sadly today, we live in a world ... in church .... where people think HillSong is the bees kneed and the cream cheese. They are not. What we have today in a consumer society is sensual ENTERTAINMENT for religious consumers who want to feel what they think is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. When it is an altered state of conscienceness brought on by the release of endorphins....pleasure chemicals. Andrenalin rush. Thats all it is. A feeling of euphoria. Worship singing that may sound like an angel singing is common. But singing under the anointing from a soothing soothing voice will be more POWERFUL & allow the Holy Spirit to move freely. ETC.

The mystery (power) of iniquity is held in self-deceit: those wicked (froward/disobedient) hardened hearts (that hold fast, unforgiven sin) which has defiled so many consciences, in these latter days! These idolators have accepted that Spirit of antiChrist from Satan, the prince of the power; heaping to themselves false prophets; having
itching (self-serving) ears, through self-deceit. Only those tabernacles of FAITH in Messiah Jesus, with His indwelling power of the Holy Spirit, have kept that prophesied "falling away" (contempt of man's pride against God), in check! Now, "The mystery (power) of the faith is held in a pure conscience." This is a mind, heart, and soul found free, by the Holy Spirit, of willful sin against God and fellow man. Many unlearned ecclesias misunderstand praise and worship of God! Doxology is our oral expression of PRAISE, in singing and glorification to God. Obeisance (obedience to the commands of God), reverence, and daily sacrifice is our WORSHIP to God, as priests and temple keepers of Father's Holy Spirit. We worship Father by presenting these redeemed bodies Holy and acceptable to Him, through obedience that is seen. Our daily offering: priestly sacrifices to Father requires taking up our cross, this sinful flesh and crucifying its deeds, desires, by following Jesus in Spirit and Truth!

I worship my God and Saviour Jesus Christ. My mindset is 100% on respect and honor. I am 60 years old and have my Children and Grand Children with me. The youngest 5 year old twins who love learning about Jesus. The music is upbeat and the words to the songs are straight from the word of God my King James version of the Bible. My family including my grand child 17 and 12 are there with me. The worship and the messages are taught in a way they understand and I understand. Nothing is translated to help us understand it. It is applied to life today. If the music to some people is thought to not be spiritual or resoectfull, I will understand when I get to Heaven and speak to my Saviour.. I would rather see my family saved with a home in Heaven and not go to hell.
    Just my viewpoint

It seems to me most of these people who are against worship and praise our living Pharisees because they can't take it that we enjoy the presence of Jesus!
His presence makes us joyful the Bible says many forget that. These people sound like some type of orthodox religion afraid to be happy in God's. The Bible says in many places sing a new song to the Lord! But they so hate this just like David's wife did when he danced with all his might and worshipped with all his might his wife couldn't stand it!

@@danacarbone9405 Exactly! I'm sure David's wife was not the only one put off by his manner of praising God!
@HeleneTraver-mf1ty Just because a form of service or music does not appeal to you doesn't mean it is not of God or not pleasing before God. Our human sensibilities and preferences are not God's. What does not look, sound or feel like true or authentic worship to us may be deemed by God as more acceptable to Him than what we offer and label as "true authentic worship", so be very careful. Our incessant criticisms of things that make US uncomfortable and therefore labeled "evil" or "not of God" are what has impacted others (not just teens or young adults, but adults too!) from coming to a church building, a sanctuary, (as opposed to online viewing) to worship and fellowship and grow in faith with other "proclaimed" believers. There is a difference between new and mature Christians, between milk and meat. Likewise there are different ministries meant for different groups. For each of us Christ followers and children of Father God and Holy Spirit led worshippers, our biggest concern should be whether individually we're growing in faith, worshipping God with OUR whole heart and life instead of defining who's not! We're told to keep OUR OWN lights shining brightly so men will see OUR good works - our right living, our worship, our putting God 1st above all, our Christ-likeness, our fruit of the Spirit, our love for neighbor 2nd to our love of God - and want to glorify God themselves, asking what must they do to be saved if they are not. When we're face to face with God we'll have to account for what we did/didn't do versus what others did/didn't do. So let's do more praying for and loving on others than criticizing and ostracizing. That's what God tells us to do.

@@terryash7408 I had to watch again because I had forgotten.
That (in his opinion) the old songs represent a rich history of the method of worship (liturgy) and (should) span all ages - that changing the songs to attract teenagers implies the church now is only for teenagers where the old songs span across time and are for everyone. That singing the old songs unifies us with people that have sung them for millennia. While all songs were new at some point there needs to be substance, ie. not just simple Kum By Yah etc He does say it is only his opinion, and also that even this traditional worship is useless if it is not truly sincere (making it false worship) He is sad at the 'new' models of worship in general and the 'new' music without substance and for momentary entertainment is his example to illustrate that. This fella goes soooo deep, he is awesome I reckon. I am glad I watched it again. Cheers Terry

The Lord, God, Jesus Christ, Holy Ghost are all Greek pagan names and titles.
HaShem is the “no name”that the disobedient Jews swapped for YAHUAH.
There is no salvation in these pagan names.
The name Jesus was only invented around 400 Only years ago.
Before then no one on earth had ever even heard of the name Jesus.

I am not sure what music this gentleman is referring to.
I certainly don't want to limit the ways one can worship God. Some people like the traditional old time hymns, some like guitar or piano or drums, choirs or soloists. Some people enjoy low lighting and others like more lights. Worship can be somber or uplifting and exciting. The church I attend offers worship services with different music genres. Everyone worships differently.
In some churches, even the dress is more casual. I think we just need to be VERY careful when we start being overly critical or judgmental or become TOO RIGID in our viewpoint. If someone isn't worshipping properly, its between them and God, and if they are a believer, the Spirit will address it with them.
God looks at the HEART of the worshipper, and whatever music draws you to the Lord and brings you closer to Him, I'm all for it.

I so appreciate hearing this comment as this is exactly what happened with me at my church I’ve been in for 7 yrs. I used to love to worship to my Lord with the music it used to be amazing but since we have doubled or tripled in size and the age has drastically lowered with 20-30 somethings the music has turned from worship and singing as a congregation to blasting out of the speakers and I can’t hear anyone except the main singer. I tried twice to respectfully offer this feedback that my spirit can not even get into worshiping my Lord when I can’t even hear myself sing and the vibrations are literally attacking me it seems. And yes there are earplugs but we should never have to use them in the first place. So I’ve been going to another church more worshipful with their music tho sadly it’s farther away.

    Psalm 100
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all ye lands.
    Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he that made us, and we are his! We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him. Bless his name!
I am 60 years old. I memorized this in my Sunday School class at my Congregational Church in Weymouth, MA 52 years ago. I have never strayed from the Lord, nor He from me. I moved many times in my younger adult years & settled in So. CA. I've been wearing flip flops and very casual clothes to church since college. You know what? God has never scorned me or showed me his disapproval ever. 20 years ago, I was diagnosed with a very rare terminal cancer and given 12-18 months to live.
Here I am, flip flops and all! God still performs miracles all the time.
I'm sorry you're still so hung up the exterior of people. How shallow. How many people you must have turned off when they were seeking Jesus, warts and all. So sad.

(For they could not endure what was commanded: “And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.” And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”) But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.”

I can’t believe you are talking about a “concert”! We have 1/2 hour of Praise and Worship, singing and Praising God together before the Pastor’s Biblical message. All the references this Pastor is using are Old Testament, and that’s great! But do not push aside REAL WORSHIPING and call it dishonorable to God! God sees into our hearts, souls and minds! Be careful who you push away from worshipping Jesus. And my sister’s church doesn’t have a group of musicians, so they still sing from hymnals.
This message can anger and push children away from worshipping God!
You cannot use the whole Golden Calf story to teach us how to worship! Those people angered God because it was IDOLATRY! And people gave in to their sexual lusts because of that idolatry.

Yes I love people to much to not tell them about hell. My msg had nothing to do with your statement. He is a 5 point Calvinist.. thats my issue. Every Calvanist need to humble themselves as they think they are part of the elect. Gods elect have been and gone, they were used to fulfil scripture. I understand this message, it is well meant. But this refers to Old Testament times. Now after Jesus had com, the curtain is torne apart and we - the believers in Jesus Christ, God's Son - have free entrance to the throne of God. No wrong fear is needed. But in this Mr. Sproul is right: We need more reverence towards the Lord and the Heavenly Father. We take it often far too easily.

He's reading from Hebrews, that's from the new testament. Also, people who want worship always look to David and old testament examples. So you have to understand that the old testament was all a shadow of the spiritual and real, which would be enacted in the new testament, in the Spirit and truth, not in the outward appearance of on-stage worship

    • @danr2390
      @danr2390 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Also, you're saying that we don't need sanctification or reverence because the veil was torn. Not true, Paul in Hebrews what he is reading here, emphasizes how much more of it we need now. The veil torn meant God left the place, we don't come to it anymore. We can approach the "holy of holies" because it's not God's place anymore. It moved to heaven.
