      I went to Thailand and told my job beforehand. They cleared me to legally work for a certain period of time but after a month they said they didn’t need me… I somehow managed to make my money stretch and still make good memories but it ruined my overall experience as I had JUST got a condo. Now I’m back in the US but I wanna get back out and travel/vlog again and Bali is actually on my list too. I just haven’t researched it fully

      Hi Jay! 👋 @jalenmack21That's tough... Being misled by an employer is hard to navigate emotionally & financially. We're happy to hear that you were able to rise above it, make it work & experience some good times over there. It says a lot about your character. Hi @rpatel6461 👋 Both have there ups & down for sure. The combination of the two has definitely been a test for us. @franciscouderq1100 well, like a daily routine
      I needed to get a new driving licence, so I couldn't drive like before, and that was challenging (Dubai doesn't have a lot of public transportation)
      And taxis are super expensive
      I dont have a gym close to where I am staying, so I haven't been in months
      Also my new job doesn't have any work from home so cooking is out of the question as there is no time so I will need to meal prep which is something new to me
      Yoy know these little small things that help you thrive ✨️ I like a good routine to help me stay on track and help me enjoy my life in a new country

    The other side of the coin!! I am 75 years old and moved here to Indonesia 13 years ago. I mix with the locals all the time and have visited a lot of places in Indonesia. Loved every minute of it and believe me I had trouble finding places and how things worked but that was the adventure. You cannot go to a third world country and expect everything to be 5 star. Spent some time in Vietnam as well and what a joy that was. I would also live there but I only visit there for a break. I have an adopted Balinese family here in Sanur and couldn't find nicer people. Good luck on your return to Aus.

      Love hearing your journey and how it was like for you moving to Indonesia! I think the longer you do it, you learn how to ride the wave of moving to a new place better. Well, I'm (Nadia) from Malaysia; having the means and opportunity to move to a new country is a big deal and an adventure for sure!

    4 months in living in Bali, I was so happy to come back to Australia! I could have left 1.5-2 months in, but thought I would stick it out and see if it got better. They didn't haha. There were so many inconveniences and lifestyle changes that drew me INSANE. The icing on the cake was when the toilet started leaking and the whole room smelt like sewage 24/7, the AC wouldn't stop dripping. Nothing beats Australia LOL! When I got back, I literally kissed the ground. Being able to walk on flat wide roads again was a LUXURY. Bali is great for short term holiday and seeing all the beautiful nature, animals and fun things to do, but other than that, a 3rd world country is not ideal for long term stay. I'm so happy I had made amazing friendships there, did some fun stuff/built great memories, but nothing beats the lifestyle in Australia.
    When I returned to Australia, my gratitude for what I took for granted that were basic asf was like a kid at a candy shop, the little things like how our tap water is drinkable, the clean street/roads, how our systems/processes are. If you're bored in a first world country, spend a few months in a 3rd world, and you will come back a brand new person, you will look at your country with so much gratitude and you will live each day deeply and see its' beauty, convenience and ease tenfold than you did before!! I was EXHAUSTED, my nervous system, mentally and physically living there. My whole body always was covered with mosquito bites, the traffic is insane, the language barrier, how they run/do things is so different and the standard and quality of things to me at times weren't up to scratch. My nervous system was craving so much relaxation and IRONICALLY I felt Bali didn't offer that.
    P.S Bali is expensive asf atm. It cost MORE to buy groceries there than it was in Australia, crazy. I don't regret moving to Bali, I took so many lessons and did things I never would have done unless I took the leap! It has given me a lifetimes worth of gratitude of the little things we take for granted each day.
    After the toilet leaking (it was seriously the icing on so many compounded frustrations), I cancelled all my accomodations, flights to other southeast asian countries, I booked a plane ticket straight back to Brisbane the next few days. It was one of the best decisions I've made than trying to stick it out for even longer. Trying to prove yourself wrong and having an ego with your plans is just wasting so much time, I realised I wasn't as happy as I could be. I sold everything in Melbourne to start my indefinite world travel solo. 4 months in, I decided digital nomad lifestyle was not my thing. Now I am so excited to ground down back in AUS!
    Good luck to you guys finding your next chapter!!! It's totally okay to change your mind/plans, we are all figuring it out too! And I learnt, you ONLY KNOW when you are in the thick of it and doing/experiencing it. There's no way to tell how you will feel or react. Now I literally go with my gut/intuition and yes I have plans, but so unattached if I completely change my mind and do something different! We're all here to live our best lives and make decisions that best align with what lights our soul on fire!!

      If u got money, you can have paradise treatment in Bali.. Believe me. It's more convenient to what u had experienced. Everything has a price. If foreigners think they can have cheap affordable life with quality in Bali, then it's a mistake. Bali isn't getting more expensive, it's just the standard is up and top destination in the world. It's never easy moving to new country especially if it's totally different culture and race.
    What I meant is for non Asian like European,American, Australian moving to Bali an Asian country is totally very different compared to my own experience.
    I am Indonesian but moved and stayed 14 years in Singapore and it's easy because the people culture and food are asian. Well I moved to Singapore for education and have no issue for money.
    As for you guys,changing career to be a new content creator is also very tough in addition adapting to new country.
    I would say living in Bali is only for those who are rich and have passive income to enjoy their life and sometimes travel our of Bali to other Asian country for a chance of scenery as well in case of burn out.

    Wow, obviously a fascinating year but sounds it was a very difficult year moving to Bali, all those challenges. During your year, what thoughts did you make of the Balinese / Indonesian people? How is life for them? What are there challenges?

    • @steveandnadia
      @steveandnadia  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey 😁A challenging year, and also a year where we experienced a lot of growth. There is always a silver lining within every situation, we are constantly learning. Balinese / Indonesian people have been very kind to us. You feel their energy comes from a genuine place. They love to laugh 😂
      Their Challenges, we can’t speak for them to be fair but might be a good question to ask when it feels right.

    Awesome video. Love the rawness.
    I have a question. Is it safe to book yearly villa rentals through facebook/whatsapp? Do you have fb groups to recommend? Looking for those villas that offer the 400 to 600 usd monthly prices I saw in a other one of your videos?

    • @steveandnadia
      @steveandnadia  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hey 👋 Thanks very much! The Facebook groups in this video bit.ly/Canggu400to650pm are the ones that we’ve used. We’d recommend seeing the villa in person first. What we did was to make full payment on the first day we moved in (collected the keys etc.) and made sure to sign a contract as well.
      In general, securing your villa through Facebook is mostly how people find longer term accommodation here so it is a pretty common practice. Booking a place with Airbnb might be an option to explore as well for the first few weeks to give you time to view places in person.

      Thanks so much for the reply.
      How trustworthy is it to rent through fb vs getting a realtor? Or are the ones posting on FB realtors?
      Just worried about getting scammed lol I've heard some stories but not sure how true they were

    • @steveandnadia
      @steveandnadia  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fluffiezjr1908the FB groups carry a mix of both realtors and owners. It is absolutely a personal choice and people have found homes they love through either. The only difference is the realtors do up the pricing significantly! So majority of people moving here look for homes on FB groups.

    Guys, where in this video is a concrete list of everything THEY DO NOT TELL YOU about moving to Bali?
    I never hear it, nor did I hear specifically about why you regretted moving to Bali, if I'm being honest.

    • @steveandnadia
      @steveandnadia  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi @SuiGenerisAbbie 👋 We understand that certainties and concrete info makes us feel more secure & sure of things. "Our regrets' is actually time stamped at the beginning so if you watch again we go over a list of things we had difficulty with in our experience. There is a lot of info on Bali out there (most very positive, which can set you up with unrealistic expectations) & this was how we grew through things not always going our way. Ultimately leaning into the not knowing & lack of 'concrete' lists is scary but holds a lot of growth & opportunities to trust yourself.

There is billions of peoples that dream to have fresh air , n green scenery every morning, goes to mountain when sunrise, and to the beach at sunset.
    There is a lot of peoples that pay $1k a month for small room in loisy apt in some "advanced city"..
    Where u can get full tummy just with $1-2 at Bali..
    Go out of bali.. i see n enjoy, a lot of creators that explores indonesia..like christian hansen that explore indonesia with bike, or others that climbing rinjani, bromo, blue fire , goes to bandung jogja, jakarta, surabaya, sumba, raja ampat.. or just fly to singapore, hongkong, dubai, oman, turkiye once a while

      It’s simply our current lived experience in Bali and the mental challenges we face along the way.
      Choosing to move to a new country can help us build more resilience, get outside our comfort zones, learn new cultures and maybe even pick up a new language.

      That depends where you settle in Bali. Most of the new arrivals flock to densely packed and expensive Canggu, Seminyak, or Ubud. Because that's, well, where wveryone else flocks to. Traffic alone in those 3 places will burn most people out, if the higher costs don't get to you first.
      I started off here in Bali also by making the mistake of first settling in Seminyak. But, because it was still during the pandemic, things were cheaper there and traffic more tolerable. But, a few months after tourism opened back up, it became a living hell. And since I left there, it's gotten 3 times more expensive with 5 times the amount of traffic.
      So, my strategy was to get way outside of the center where everyone was flocking to and to go live among the locals. It couldn't have been a better move. Where I've lived in Bali for almost a year now, since leaving Seminyak far behind, is relatively quiet, unspeakably inexpensive, no crime, low density, barely any traffic except on the highway, but still has great ammenities, including nearby beaches that are nicer than those in Canggu and Seminyak, but get barely any people, even during sunset.
      So, I still recommend Bali to expats, but do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from Canggu, Seminyak, Umulas, Kerobokan, Legian, Kuta, and Ubud, unless you're only a short term tourist.

      @@skranz7790 so where did you settle. I’m very interested as I am not looking to be in the crowds

      @@Julia-kb2oo I settled in Tabanan. But, there are many places outside the "center" that offer what I described. Amed is awesome too. As is Keramas and Gianyar (outside of Ubud). Uluwatu was nice, but is starting to get crowded from overflow from Canggu. Stay away from Canggu, Seminyak, Kerobokan, Umulas, Legian, Kuta, Ubud and Sanur, except for short visits.

      Thank you for sharing! It’s definitely not for everyone..but we’ve also met a number of people who have set up their lives here for a number of years! So we’re curious at how they do it 😃

    This is what reality is..Few of my mates also came.back after year or 2.the only difference is they don't do TH-cam or active on social.media because social.mwdia is filled with fakes and the content creator hardly talks about these realities of bali.Think about this "If you talk about moving out of bali how many people will view it than someone talking about moving in"...I respect you guys for speaking the truth in this fake filled media world..I wish you guys success in anything you do in your future..

      Thank you! It's hard to compare ones experiences to another, especially what you see on social media. There will never be two of the same which makes every story unique, and we're all about celebrating everyone's personal view or lived experiences on things.
