    Thanks for the video. I'm a 72 yr old crafty Grandma. My like new Lenovo idea pad 5 broke last mo, left hinge. I followed your example. Removed all the broken pcs. Loosened the tension on hinges, it was crazy tight. Added tiny drop of sewing machine oil. Perfect now. Ace Hardware had the tiny bolts n tiny drill bit. I didn't use JB weld. I used my favorite black E6000 glue to build up under the hinge. Waited 48 hs. It gets like hard rubber. Drilled the 3 holes, covered the screen w cardboard while working. It worked, looks just like yours. A good teacher makes for good students, even if they are 72... Plus I have great tools I usually use for making jewelry. Tiny tools worked best, like my bead crimper to loosen hinge tension. Who knew!
    Lenovo? Never NEVER again.

      Sounds good. I wouldn't loosen the tension though, because then the screen starts flopping over. It's not Lenovo, but this specific model that's bad. I've been fixing so many of them.

    Thanks so much for this. Worked for my IdeaPad 5 and kept me from having to replace it.
    A couple notes that may help others. Both my hinges broke, so I decided to just epoxy the hinges back, set the computer with them where I wanted, and let them harden before continuing with re-assembly. I'm not sure I would have been able to do all that manipulation and keep the hinges where I wanted them with the wet epoxy. I used some masking tape but skipped all the saran wrap stuff. I think this made the repair much easier (and my bezel fit back fine). However, the risks here would be the bezel might not snap back perfectly and, being my first time, I was a bit sloppier with the JB Weld than in this video (but it worked). I suspect I might have a little trouble replacing the screen or what not if I had too...but, frankly, this computer is 2.5 years old and I'm not willing to dump any real money into this design.
    But, I am also not a pro being paid to make a repair, I was just trying to get my computer back to serviceable and where the screen wasn't just disconnected from the the laptop. Thanks again.

    • @ItsBinhRepaired
      @ItsBinhRepaired  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, if you completely remove the screen and let it set before reassembling, it's a lot easier, but I only do that if the hinges have the raised bumps to keep them aligned properly. The saranwrap makes sure that they are in place and removable in the future.

    • @gregv1776
      @gregv1776 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ItsBinhRepaired I'm sure yours is a better repair. Thanks again for the instructions. This computer wouldn't be useable as something that can be moved without it...and it just cost me some JB Weld and toothpicks.
      I'm a bit disappointed in Lenovo for this design flaw though. I've had a lot of ThinkPads over the years. I suppose that is where I should stay with Lenovo. But even my wife's new T14 doesn't feel as robust as any of our previous ThinkPads from various lines (X, R, T). Starting to wonder if they are worth it.
      I'm curious what you think the most durable lines are? Latitude? Something else?

    I did this repair on this laptop. I removed the battery to stop the laptop from turning on all the time. You get better access with the back off the laptop as well. I set the laptop on the back of the screen and had the keyboard sit vertically and used weight to hold the repair together while it set. Letting it set while open eliminates the saran wrap step.

    Still being appreciated, was able to fix my Lenovo IdeaPad5 RHS hinge, the difference I took was to remove the battery, tape where necessary then use the JB weld to adhere the hinge to the lid, apply weight, a stack of books to the right height positioned adjacent the vertical keyboard base of the laptop & a dumb bell weight(5kg) bridging to keep hinge in the fixed position. FINALLY after 24hrs curing reassembling the bezel. Only issue with this approach was the small plastic part that fell out it wouldn't clip back into place so just left it out, cosmetically still looks like a bought one. Many thanks

    My Ideal pad5 just got this issue today right after the warranty expired in month 13. My old Lenovo lasted over 7 years with the same failure mode but I was not disappointed as it served me well. I feel the quality of Lenovo is going down. My old Lenovo had a better keyboard and the display contrast was much-much better. Will probably think twice about getting a Lenovo again. I took speech class, where we had to try to give instructions to other people, to help them follow. We all graded each other. I'd fail you on orienting me to what you are doing. You need to start with giving people very clear instructions to orient people to what you are doing, putting it in context & at each step in the process. It's about being basic, & clear. You tell a lot about answering the door instead. Describe the broken part better.... how it connects normally. What it normally looks like. How should the broken part connect? Why would i use jb weld in place of the screws? You did not orient me at all to what you were doing.

      @cchemmes-seeseeart3948 um, then I would give you an F in comprehension and intuition. You can see the other unbroken side to know how it goes together and how it used to be. I've also mentioned how these keep breaking so you should know that putting it the way it was before will just result in another broken hinge mount. Not only that, but you'll need a replacement screen cover as well as need to remove the screen and everything mounted to it. You think someone taught me all this stuff? People need to use their brains at least a little, which it sounds like you're unable to do? Not everything needs explaining. You can breathe without someone explaining why and how you need to breathe.

    Thanks a lot for this video! I repaired my daughters laptop hinge, the laptop is identical to the one in the video and it had the exact same issue. The only issue I have, is that the bezel is now not snapping completely into place near the repaired hinge. But thats because I let the epoxy harden before mounting the bezel again: i was too concerned that by shutting the laptop prior to curing the hinge/screen position woiuld have shifted. However I should have positioned the bezel and close the laptop prior to curing like you showed in the video to prevent this. Nevertheless: It is barely visible and I am glad she can use her laptop again. But indeed. What a sh*tty construction. Next laptop won't be a Lenovo. The one thing I did as an extra, was to apply a few droplets of oil in the hinge, which seems to loosen it a bit. Hopefully this helps to prevent breaking the other hinge and the repaired one because of excessive force.
    *edit*
    And of course, now the other hinge has snapped off.
    Luckily, I still have the JB weld.
    The repair should take so much shorter, since I have "experience" now.

    Lenovo Yoga has similar hinge issue. Mine was / is particularly bad. First month of ownership of brand new Yodo according to the "geek squad" the pinbal-ish sound in my fan was from "plastic debris" inside the computer. Origin unknown. Shortly thereafter there was this "crunching of 'glass sand' "sound, every time I picked up the laptop or even worse when I would open and close it. Then my touchscreen stopped working. Then the hinge somehow came out from the top without (to my surprise) breaking the screen. Then my cats closed my screen when it was left open(because I could / should obviously not close it at this point) one night... I'm fairly certain they were watching kitty porn... and in the a.m. when I saw my screen shut I gasped in panic and when my genius friend saw me do that she was like "what?!..." and opened the screen thinking there was something horrible on it which caused me to shut it (which I didn't) but before I could blink she had just opened it up to a uber cringy grinding sound that was oh-so-familiar and a small pop which, as you have likely guessed was my screen.
    So I went into the kitchen and grabbed a meat cleaver (I am a vegetarian so I was happy to finally get to use it) and I cut out my genius friends heart the way that mine felt like it was at that moment. Threw her body into the canal where an octopus and a shark fought over her. Bye bye (you're welcome world) ... And when I turned my attention back to my computer I was shocked to see that the screen still worked... And it still does with no interference save for a darker diffuse line up the right side about 2.5 inches in. I guess I was a bit harsh on my friend, but trust me someone was going to eliminate her at some point anyway...
    If they can ever get a class action lawsuit going for these effing defective parts in Lenovo's I will be sure to ask the attorneys to include that any act-of-passion murders caused by the numerous defects would be the fault of the manufacturer and NOT of the user.
    I just can't seem to find where any of the investigations into them resulted in anything... Does anyone know?
