Thanks Tom!! Just like you I was fighting to "crack the code" on my new IC-7300 but just couldn't find any video that worked. You made my day! I just 5 - 10 minutes I had my rig set up and made 3 contacts on 40 meters. Thanks again, I'll be watching your channel.....for more goodies...

Your com port number of COM3 is assigned by Windows when you plug in the USB device (the 7300). To see what COM number gets assigned, unplug the 7300, open the Device Manager in Windows, then plug in the 7300 USB. You should see a change in the device manager where it assigns a COM port and a number. This may be different for other User, and it may be different for you if you have other USB devices plugged in before the 7300.

Thank you Tom, best video on FT8 with a 7300. Thanks.

I'm glad your video helped others. I used your settings and no power output or xmit. 73

Most of these Viodeos miss the mark, they spend more time showing you the screen than how they got there. Like my first try at teaching a Ham Radio license class, I could tell I had wasted my time, so I had to fall back and regroup. Then the only ones that failed did not study.
You are the First to tell us how he got there! Congratulations as about 90 percent of the FT8- IC7300 videos are a wast of time.

    Smiling:
Did the same thing and found many different ways to do it. Bottom line is you kind of get the basic settings they tell you and adjust for what works for you. Enjoyed the video.

Herşeyi denedim ama başaramamıştım. Ses olarak duysam da çağrılar düşmüyordu. Meğerse bilgisayarım 1 dakika geride kalmış. Bu ayrıntıyı söyleyen başka video bulamadım. Senkronize ettiğim anda çalışmaya başladı. Sana çok teşekkür ederim.

Thanks Tom, I had one setting wrong. Now if I could just figure out why I suddenly have RF in the shack that is tripping the rig off. I've been running the same setup for a couple of years and never had an RF issue on 6m, up to 100W. Now 20W will trip it. That's a whole different problem that I'll need to work out (I've got snap on RF chokes all over the place and a lot of grounding so this'll be a challenge).

Definitely, a face for radio. Great video...really nauseating...like being aboard a ship at sea in a violent storm.

Hi Tom, I recommend 'Hold TX' when working FT8 contacts. I find if you pick a clear frequency and stay on that frequency (hold TX) works best (think of it as working DX on duplex)

Very helpful video, relaxed pace for easy understanding, great for someone like me who's an iCretin. Should rig control also work through the USB cable? Can't get mine to work. Any cabling required other than the USB?

Hi Tom. Maybe I'm wrong but I think that AGC must be on and set to fast. Default value 0,3s is fine in my case. With AGC set to off, signal strenght in WSJT-X will be most likely above 70dB which is not good for decoding. 73 de SP9HAN.

No info on computer and audio settings as well as agc on rig. These are very important. I notice most videos do not address this.

My ACER(intel core) under device manager does not show ports. A change in device manager definitely makes a change when plugging USB. just can find any comport reference.

Before you plug in the USB cable, you have to download a usb-driver from ICOM: Link on this page: www.fbnews.jp/201805/technical_en/

I have yet to find a video that shows how and why to set up FT8 on the 7300. If you watch all the TH-cam videos, you can pick up a thing or two from each, but as far as a runthrough of what to do and why you do it, good luck. When the narrator starts to explain something and is surprised with what comes up -- it's time to move on.

Your Tuesday TH-cam for this week is unavailable on my apple tablet . What’s with that?
