The Swalm is a small river that originates in Germany near the town of Wegberg. It enters the Netherlands near Swalmen and eventually flows into the Meuse (Maas) river. Although canoeing on the Swalm is allowed, I don't think many people (still) want to do it. It is simply almost impossible due to dozens of fallen trees over the water. Besides being very unpleasant, there are also significant risks associated with fallen trees. You can get stuck with your feet or legs while climbing, you can injure yourself severely on sharp branches, and often you don't know if a tree can sag even further.
