@@sarah.mp4 the pan is definitely more economical
my bathroom and bedroom are detached, and my cat definitely preferred the litter box- if i left my bedroom open he would go on my bed because it had my smell and he was still trying to get used to the toilet. he was able to adjust with all the transitions pretty quickly but at the very end i just cut out the bottom while i left the edges just so he knew it was familiar and he knew he could go in there.
i got flushable kitty litter that i used in the beginning and i would recommend that for the first few weeks for sure. i tried to get rid of the litter as fast as i could bc he made a mess with it
i would say definitely invest in a big pack of disinfectant wipes and toilet cleaners. i have to clean my toilet and light candles in there frequently to make sure there’s no odor.
also their instinct is to hide their urine and feces so my cat gets his paws all gross from the toilet water (if he has diarrhea it’s not fun lol) so i would say get some pet paw wipes to clean their paws off with too!

    • @earthwatersun3848
      @earthwatersun3848 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@sarah.mp4 also my cat didn’t use the toilet until it was his only option so leaving the litter box in there didn’t really work

This sounds like a good idea but cats waste contains a nasty parasite called Toxoplasma which can cause some serious health problems to humans. This parasite is why you should avoid touching cat poop, never mind flushing it down the toilet and exposing the whole water system to the parasite. Some water systems may not be properly equipped to kill Toxoplasma. The prevalence of the parasite in the water system may have an impact on more than just humans, too. It has been found in river otters and may infect any other warm-blooded animal as well. Ultimately, anything we can do to reduce this parasite can help the overall environment. Just some food for thought.

So I have to say my 3 cats have been training for about a week now. Just got rid of their litter box a day ago and after a few accidents my one most stubborn kitty went in the toilet. I am at the stage where there is still litter in roasting. Probably 2 days into this. I am soooo proud of him. Now the other 2 just have to get on board. Thank-you so much for this training video and it really does work.

  • @saskiadavis5456

    Wonderful video! Thanks!
    .
I trained my 2 about 10 years ago, Armani still does it perfectly. After a couple of years, Cinnamon made alternate decisions. No more poop in the toilet. On the floor in front is where he's decided it belongs. The toilet seat is still where he goes to urinate, but only sometimes will he squat. Other times he stands, aiming at the wall or open lid. If I catch him, he will tolerate my gently pushing him into squat position with lots of praise. But I'm not always there. I keep a folded paper towel below the open lid. Spray cleaner and Simple Solution in a spray bottle are always handy. It takes a couple of minutes a day to clean up.
Your video has reminded me about the value of rewards. Maybe I will resume rewarding with food each time I catch him squatting or help him to do it. I'm not at all sure I will be able to teach him to poop there again. No matter. The minute or two it takes to clean up is still easier than a litter box. Fortunately, he uses a bathroom I seldom use.
    A couple of inconveniences:
~Armani, smarty pants that he is, watched me using toilet paper as humans do. However, he identified it as the substance with which to cover his deposits.
After a couple of toilets full of unrolled paper, the roll lives in a canister.
~They sleep with me. I have to be careful not to wake Armani when I get up in the night to pee. If I wake him, likely, he will beat me to the toilet while I wait, shivering, with my legs crossed!

  • @flxmkr

Cats are so smart. Growing up my sister was allergic to cats so I was never allowed to have a cat so of course when I moved out I immediately rescued a homeless cat that became my best most cuddly friend which of course in turn made me get three more cats eventually. And those three I got every other year as kittens. And it made me realize that people that don't think cats can be just as cuddly and trainable is dogs just aren't doing it right. My two oldest cats have since passed on the first from old age and the second oldest cat unfortunately had a buildup in his urinary tract that happened during a week-long camping trip and when we got back home within 10 minutes I knew he was sick and I got them in the car and he died on the way to the vet. But my point is the three of my cats I got as kittens and I made sure that I was around them twenty-four hours a day for the first 6 months of their lives and I became their cat Mommy. And while they are perfectly fine doing as they please they prefer to cuddle with me and be next to me at all times cuddling. They have never scratched nor bitten. They all come when I call them. It really is very easyto teach your cat to pretty much act like what people think dogs are supposed to act like. And because most people don't, cats get a bad rap

OK, 3 things here from experience with a foil pan in the toilet. 1) Cats HATE the sound of aluminum foil. 2) they make a HUGE mess and worst of all 3) they get spooked because the pan will fall in from a heavy cat being in there. You don't think they just sit on the toilet seat do you...no, they get in the pan.

My 16 yrs old one is doing so much better than a 13 yrs old one. I used a big plastic bowl instead of an aluminum foil pan cause I can't get it to fit in. @MasterMichelleFL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ((Not for "D" the troll.))
(I said I HATE litter boxes, I didn't say I refuse to have any. I actually keep a box accessible (always accessible on our huge screened in patio) in case the toilet lid(s) gets left down, or they need to go and the bathroom is in use. It's happened once or twice, luckily I had thought ahead and planned for issues that were possible... just in case. They will use the box if they can't use the toilet, but if they preferred the box, they wouldn't check if the bathroom is available first. In fact, they'd rather go in the bathtub if the lid gets left down by company forgetting, and they can get in the bathroom. They only go out on the big patio to play, sleep, eat or climb, but are out there via a cat door all the time. I think they must like the cleanliness of using the toilet.(?) They turn around and smell the water, don't have to cover anything, jump down and walk away satisfied. They can also go outside in a big protected yard with lots of safe places to hide, open spaces, sandy spots, etc. They lay outside and watch birds...lol. Then poop in the toilet. On there own. )
(This isn't for the troll who replied above, it's for anyone his divisive behavior might mislead. Some people will try to stop anything positive, just to be evil.💚 )
      💚💚💚

Excellent video! I have five cats. One is 18 and is the only one that goes outside. One was found on craigslist and the other three were feral. Despite living in a small space, there’s never been a catfight or even snarling. I am going to start them as toilet training (I have a bad back and changing litter is a killer!) and progress to tricks. I have taught them that when I say “touchdown “they run into the bedroom and I close the door so they don’t get out when I leave. Very successful! So sad your video cut out early!

She would beg for treats and bring me her toy and other simple things. We have got to do this 'toilet training' for our cats. Excellent Tutorial ! ! !
We all have the freedom of a large 'territory' out in the country during the day, but the critters all had to be trained to come in every night.
Treats and regular feeding times was the ticket to success, but calling them was a problem if I was away. Luckily a friend reminded me of the old farm bell that our neighbors had. Brilliant ! So, I bought a few identical little metal bells and placed them at every porch door. There hasn't been a problem in years.
Training the humans is always the hard part.
