Chimneys don’t need protection like that from rain. There’s such a small amount that goes in and especially for the ones you use often like the furnace it just evaporates. You can definitely have them but it’s not really needed.
That cap will pour water down the other flue. A full cap would be the cheapest and best solution. All that scaffolding, demo and mixing the much cement and carry to roof, smh
Shame on you for not over hanging the cap and putting a drip channel on the under side. Plus the concrete is going to crack when those flu liners expand when they heat up. There should have been a flexible gasket wrapped around the liners. Horrible job. Shame on TOH
I was thinking the same thing. This is not much better than what was there...in a few years the same problems will arise. Fine Homebuilding Magazine had an article that showed exactly what you described.
I've listended to them talk about this before and it's safe when it's level platforming, it's the danger when they're working, having less focus on their footing and less hands to grab things with. Like the trick with ladders, 3 body parts must be touching in order to go up or down.
Why did they even need safety harnesses, the scaffolding had safety rails all around it , because it’s this old house and it’s filmed and on TH-cam , and looks good for OSHA.
Isn't water pouring into the other chimneys a problem? Why don't they need caps, too?
that's what im wondering.

Scaffolding?...... That was an ADA Compliant 300sqft addition...... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like how he gave him hand tools and he was using a power tool on the concrete.
Right man for the job.
I don’t know anything about chimneys but this looks like a far cry from anything the average homeowner should attempt.
they leave "keep sakes". lol They were lazy and left their garbage.
All the osha and building inspectors around here.. just watch the video OK
where does rain water that falls thru the open flue end up?
why would 3 more caps cost thousands??
He was talking about a one piece large cap to cover all 4 which would have to be custom made.
@@mitchdenner9743thanks!
@@mitchdenner9743 ooh tnx i would think to put one on each anyway for the weather
@skim193 yes i agree
Perhaps MAKE your own FULL cap.😊
Shoulda signed the concrete
what about a bond break on the flues? I thought a bond break was required by code.
Thought this too...there's going to be cracking at all the flue joints by not having an elastomeric break.
10k scaffolding job😅
Gotta keep the cameraman safe.
Definitely need a full cap. That center cap will just position the water run off horribly. Other than that excellent job.

That is NOT a small job!
5:55 So the pigeon can land safely and poop down in a balanced stance straight down onto your steaks, no wall-angled splatters.
Just joking around

Every video there’s some old dumbass thinking they can do it better😂
@@gossarch4920 he usually does decent work. But this was horrible for a few reasons
Harsh but true
They should have worn their safety harnesses the first time they went up…
Ok Karen

@@kaseyc5078Lol 😂
I am a contractor. This is dreadful.
that is not really a DIY job so why do a show on this? How about show how to build a door to a shop or something along those lines.
What a great coincidence that the homeowner just happened to have a full scaffolding system set up to work on the roof. :^)
He mentions it 30 seconds in he sent a scaffolding crew early ....
Now let’s go up on the roof.
*Builds a scaffolding to access the roof*
He said in the intro that they prepared the scaffolding in advance
Should have marked the concrete, i cant imagine that sharpie would last more than a few years in the sun and rain.
