Lampley always shows real deep emotion when talking about historical events in boxing. I've seen him cry when he was just talking about the Gatti/Ward fights. Ive got a lot of respect for that man, its not just a job to him.
Agreed, I know some people don't agree with his opinions but you have to respect his absolute love and knowledge of the game. I will always have respect for him. #RIPChamp
+Boxing Legends TV You're right man, he may not be the best blow by blow commentator, but he genuinely loves this sport and you can tell Ali's death really affected him, he's not fake.
Constantin Milvius You should see him talking about Ali babysitting his daughter. You can find it on fighthub. I felt everyone that he cried badly. Shit had me hurt.
No Doubt About It. No Other Fighter or Professional Athlete today would ever be willing to sacrifice anything to stand up for what they believe in. Ali Was A True One Of A Kind Fighter, Champion, And Person.
Not just heavyweight no boxer period matches him. Close thing as a boxer to him was Leonard who is the greatest welterweight of all times with out a doubt but even then Ali was a level of his own.
+Alan Herrera I think Mike Tyson would be in the face of greatness and I think it would break him. Plus dealing with miles height and reach it would tricky for Mike to take the chances he want but idk is my second favorite heavyweight of all times after Ali because of how cool of a person he was besides boxing. I think tommy hearns could beat jcc in my opinion. But my first comment was actually for the other guy who tried dissing u but I like your opinion big time cause I fuck with both of Thoses guys
Boxer? Very good. Athlete? Average. Couldn't run fast or long distance, couldn't jump, couldn't throw a ball, couldn't do a backflip or balance his upper body on one arm, couldn't swim, couldn't lift heavy weight.......he was a man who got punched in the face so much he got brain damage. Nothing more nothing less. You are witnessing the re-write of history. Those of us who grew up with him don't think much about Ali, however the media is pushing hard to brainwash the clueless generation how great he was...total propaganda.
I never met Muhammad Ali, never grew up watching him, didn't get interested in boxing because of him, but when he died I felt very emotional. I first heard Muhammad Ali's name in the 7th or 8th grade during black history month when we were required to write an essay on an influential african-american historical figure. It wasn't until I became an adult that I realized what a great man he was. Whether or not he is the best is debatable but there is no question he is the greatest, because even as I type this I'm very emotional. Jim Lampley is right, he is the only one who would make the sacrifices the way he did. That inspires me and motivates me to stick to my beliefs. Muhammad Ali was not perfect, he was not a saint, but he was a man worth calling a hero.
When people say he was one of the greatest sportsmen who ever lived.......firstly he was the greatest sportsman who ever lived...and in my mind the greatest public figure who ever lived.....a wonderful human being.
Ali must be looking down smiling and feeling all the love from all over the world. To be loved by one person is a feeling hard to describe but too be truly loved by so many is a different story. His name will live through the ages. Rest In Peace to The Greatest Muhammad Ali
Jim Lampley made me rewind a couple times on the live broadcast. job well done by him, its nice to see that kind of raw emotion about a man who meant so much to the world. RIP Ali
Maybe part of that is the public opinion that Gatti was most likely murdered by his wife...which is still a controversial stance, but there were so many ways that the evidence and case surrounding his death was botched and tampered with. You can argue CTE all you want, but in that case, it doesn't look like that would've brought on that kind of end result.
In 1970s communist Romania, Ali's fights were among the very few events shown on TV, that had no connection with Communism. In my village, there were just a few people that had access to a TV at that time, so my grandfather's living room was full of people. That wasn't because we were big boxing fans or sport fans, but because those events meant a break from the gray world of communism. Thank you Ali for each of those 12 rounds of freedom!
The same story with my grandfather who came to Germany from turkey in 1969 to work. He had no interest in sports ever but I remember him always talking about Ali and how he like the half of the world used to stand up at night to see his fights in black and white tv. These fights meant the world to those guys in the 60s and 70s. Like Super bowl and World Cup final at once. That's how one can imagine how big Ali was not only in USA but worldwide when people from the most far corners of the world knew him
That nearly made me cry! I love these 3 and their commentary/analysis. It makes watching boxing so much better. And Muhammad Ali, what more can I say? The greatest ATHLETE to ever walk this earth!
He got everyone at the end. Lampley knew what he was doing, he saved the best for last. Let everyone give their take and then gave the greatest take on Ali you could give. Short, sweet, and right to the point given with real, raw, unadulterated emotion. Even worse he gave a take that is like....."How can you argue against that?" "Heck how can you follow up anything after what he said?"
Ali said Jack Johnson was crazy he beat up white boys when white boys was lynching black folks he dated and married white women when you could killed for looking at a white woman. Jack Johnson inspired Ali to be his own man and he was just that. He was Ali
I spent more than a decade at the Famous 5th Street Gym on Miami Beach... I have few Muhammad Ali stories, as Ali trained at 5th street most of his career... On Muhammad's 36th Birthday Ali started a towel fight with me in the dressing room. Ali was wearing a terry cloth bath robe, and I had nothing to sting, but his calves and his face, and I was not going to hit Ali in the face with my towel. Mean time, I was wearing trainning trunks and tee shirt, and Ali was tearing me up with his towel, I had to run out the dressing room into the gym with the Champ rite behind me. Once around the ring and back into the dressing room, the crowd in the gym laughed their a$$ off ! True Paulie D'
Max said it best, we all had this blizzard, beautiful, connection to him. As a child of ten I hated him, thinking g of him as a loud mouth braggart. Then I saw him lose to Slinks and I was hooked. The courage he showed in that fight and esp the dignity and grace in which he handled the loss stayed with me. I then bought, read, every book I could find on him. The biography by Thomas Hauser literally got me through rehab. We had different lives, different struggles, and yet he made me feel like he was there, or if he would be there, he would understand. ( weird huh?) My avatar is Waylon Jennings, and is it not strange that two of my heroes were also friends? ( Ali was at Shooter's christening ) I can't say I'll miss him because he never really left me. Great boxer....even better human being.
So articulate. So respectful. So sincere. All three men. Muhammad Ali, my all time hero. Roy Jones Jr, the most invincible, incredible, unbelievable fighter during his prime. Kellerman and Lampley, two of the finest broadcasters in our era. Thank you for this. Rest in peace Ali. We will always miss you because we are not going to forget you.
Great stuff gentlemen...and after Jim spoke we could've dropped the mic right there....R.I.P to a great American Icon, Citizen of the World, Louisville's own....
that was so emotional I still can't get over the lose of a legend we love you Ali I know I never got to see your fights as I'm only 17 but Iv watched them years ago and you was the best boxer ever and u still are and that video made me cry we love you Ali rest in peace float like a butterfly and sting like a bee R.I.P to the best there is and the best there ever will be your shock up the world now your shake up the heavens x
That was absolutely wonderful. I'm so full of emotions right now and I still can't bring myself to say that The Champ is no longer on the physical realm with us. Ali was the greatest athlete I ever had the pleasure of witnessing with my own eyes. I'd like to send my condolences to his family and to thank our HEAVENLY FATHER for allowing us to have The Greatest for a while. You'll be truly missed Champ GOD rest your soul Muhammad Ali (aka The Greatest)
Great commentary by these guys. I will always remember the Ali-Foreman fight at the old Oakland Auditorium in Oakland, California. The emotion was so thick in the air that it seemed like a chunk of it could be physically broken off. I never dreamed that I would ever experience something like that. I will never forget it. Rest in peace ALI!!! And, for people in the world who say that Muslims, Christians, and Jews can't get along, it recently dawned on me. Ali was a Muslim, Bundini Brown was of the Jewish faith, and Angelo Dundee was a Catholic. They got along together, and was the most successful team in boxing.
What's interesting is that Muhammad Ali was around 54 or 55 when this sparring session with Roy Jones Jr happened. Which just goes to show how Muhammad Ali never had these crazy insane tactics or gimmicks he could match up to someone, he just always had the capability of doing exactly what he needed to win. Even far out of his prime and ill, he can still give one of the best a run for their money.
I hope one day there will another number 1 of all time, but Ali put himself on such a level of ability, talent, and instinct that makes it almost impossible for anyone to reach. Including modern boxers like Mayweather, Pacquiao, and even Roy here. As things still stand, Ali is still number 1 and may never get surpassed.
God bless you brother Muhammad was my first Idol and like everyone I took things from him tried to emulate him was utterly taken by him and his personality he will be greatly missed rest in peace champ👊👊
they were most sincere all of them 3, jjim though really let me feel what I feel, and that is the grief I am trying to hide from. It is very hard , sometimes, to accept the fact that we are all mortal. Even the best of us.
Truly not only one of the most gifted Boxer's, and innovator of his own unique way of fighting. I will always remember him also as one of the greatest Humanitarians to ever have lived. P.B.U.H R.I.POWER Champ, Thank you for the memories.

I was just about to comment this... He cried in the PacBrad3 and PacMarq4 as well. He actually CARES. Great man. also, May Ali rest in peace.
love your statement. exactly what i thought.
'There was one, there was only one'....absolutely wonderful Jim Lampley, that is respect.
Still get choked up watching this.
No Doubt About It. No Other Fighter or Professional Athlete today would ever be willing to sacrifice anything to stand up for what they believe in. Ali Was A True One Of A Kind Fighter, Champion, And Person.
One of the greatest men to of lived, one of the greatest fighters ever, No heavyweight matches him. A man amongst men. Legend. RIP Ali .
Mike Tyson!!!!!!!!!
+Jaaay J I know more about boxing than you, idiot! It's also called 'opinion'. Every one has their own favorite boxer.
Not just heavyweight no boxer period matches him. Close thing as a boxer to him was Leonard who is the greatest welterweight of all times with out a doubt but even then Ali was a level of his own.
+My House It's your opinion. But my opinion is no boxer matches Mike in his weight. No boxer matches JCC in welterweight. No one!
Lampley's speech was moving. Rest in peace champ - The Greatest.
Yeah I love the passion that Jim has for the sport it was beautiful speech
Rest in peace Mohamed Ali the greatest athlete ever

Hardly
Covert Wasp sir shut up
The R. Jordan had a how team of stars to back him up, Mohamed Ali only had himself on the ring, that's why he's the greatest athlete

How can anyone possibly hate Jim Lampley? He's such an honest guy.
Interviewing Jim Lampley is one of the highlights of my life.
Damn Lampley bringing a tear to my eye every time he speaks about Ali.
Jim Lampley showed so much emotion, made me feel so sad
We love you champ rest in peace
I almost started crying, myself😢! Rest easy, champ🙏🏿🥊!!

He's an emotional dude and you can tell by his passion when calling fights, that's why he has the job and is who he is.

RIP to the greatest. A true inspiration
👊👊
One of my favorite ever moments in HBO boxing.
Trying to hold back the tears while remembering the greatest heavy-weight of all time! Respect, R.I.P Ali!
Beautiful words. There was one other that put his life on the line to be his own man -- Jack Johnson.
Ali said Jack Johnson was crazy he beat up white boys when white boys was lynching black folks he dated and married white women when you could killed for looking at a white woman. Jack Johnson inspired Ali to be his own man and he was just that. He was Ali
big respect for lampley

Miss you everyday, Ali. You have inspired me so much.

Perfect exclamation point by Lampley. Well said. RIP to the Greatest.
Great stuff gentlemen...and after Jim spoke we could've dropped the mic right there....R.I.P to a great American Icon, Citizen of the World, Louisville's own....

Great commentary by these guys. I will always remember the Ali-Foreman fight at the old Oakland Auditorium in Oakland, California. Yeah, his corner was a corner where different faiths got along. All great men as well.
Ali-Foreman at the Oakland Auditorium?
It was in Zaire. Do you mean that a group gathered there to watch it on TV?
pnutbutrncrackers Yes, on closed circuit TV.
Shove This L Up Your Ass I saw it on closed circuit TV at the Oakland Auditorium boy.
***** I know that! Have you ever heard of Closed Circuit TV. What a waste of energy it is to comment back to you people.
Muhammad Ali redefined the sport of boxing and gave the fans something to enjoy and took his opponents to school. R.I.P
There is something in my eye.
You were a very very very very very very great boxer and you lived a great life
Muhammad Ali was part of my family and I told all my children about him . R.I.P to The Greatest .❤️❤️
Deeply moving Jim lampley nailed it and summed it up perfectly.very true indeed.
What's interesting is that Muhammad Ali was around 54 or 55 when this sparring session with Roy Jones Jr happened. that was deep, miss you my hero, go and rest forever.
Very well said by these guys. Lampley always make me tear up with his tributes! He's a true ambassador, along with Joe Rogan, to hard core fight fans.
Wow that was emotional
Well said Jim
