Columbia Colonnade Bloomsburg, PA - A Walk Through a Silent and Empty Dead Mall

  • Join me as I go on a tour of the Columbia Mall in Bloomsburg Pennsylvania. This mall once housed a Sears, JC Penney and the Bon-Ton. It now sits vacant, with only a few businesses remaining. In all my travels, I have never been to a dead mall so eerily empty and silent. It felt abandoned, as if I shouldn't be there.

This mall was supposedly overhauled once. I can't remember this happening as a kid, so I share this info as is. Yes the mirror store was a Deb. The Foot Locker was reused as a Rage room, that's when the tiles got painted.
The anchor further down in the mall was the Penny's. The place next to the former Twisted Pretzel/AA's was a Nail Salon that left due to water damage in it's space. Red Tile was Camelot Music, later reused as a Kids Play place that left under controversial circumstances. The EFO was a Sears, EFO is still open and is successful. Mall Santa was around until 2018. The no clue was several stores including a Bookstore at one time, right now it's a Red Cross blood donation site. Wavy roof place's last use was a farmers market. Teal Accents was a Gertrude Hawk that just left during/after the COVID shutdown. That was converted to a Gamestop.
All the Brass - Mastercuts. Tabletop game place has been closed since the start of COVID. The later mall office was Mall Services and in the last few years was Mall Security. The window was for quick service items and was a generic restaurant that was never successful, changed names several times. Old rest. was an Arby's and has been closed for a very long time.

Thank you so much for sharing all this knowledge about the place. I really appreciate it. I'm always try and guess the stores at these places and I've never had anyone ID them all like this. You da real MVP 👍

@@RayOutThere Glad to be of help. I'm a local, and sadly, I think everyone in the county just wants something done with the mall and for it to be over.
This mall lost a lot when Ames closed in 2002/2003 and Walmart moving up by it sure didn't help. There were plans to demall in 2008, but no further action was taken.

I'm so glad that there are youtubers that focus on collecting media / video material around buildings that are on their way away.
For these buildings have so much history behind them.

It was so sad watching this place decay. While hard to imagine now, this was once the economic center of our sleepy little rural corner of PA. It was always bustling. They went all out for Christmas, too, so it was always kind of a hallmark of the season to go do your shopping there.
    - That first place you saw to the left as you entered back in the 80s and 90s had the biggest, best tasting pizza slices you ever had. Someone tried to reopen a pizzaria there but he couldn't count change and the pizza was very meh so nobody wanted to go anymore.
    - "Looks like this mall was never updated" It more or less wasn't. Sans the store branding, it looks pretty close to the way it did when opening. A few chunks did change, mostly the store-front design. The arcade space looks pretty different.
    - Where you asked "Is this the Bon Ton?", that was a JC Pennies.
    - The stage thing was where promotions and holiday set ups were kept. You went to see Santa or the Easter Bunny there. To the right, that storefront was an Arby's for the longest time.
    - "This must be a food place of some kind". Pretzels.
    - The furniture outlet was Sears, and honestly was a pretty good one back in the day. To the left was the arcade. EDIT: Actually...I'm having a brain fart, the arcade might have been on the other end of the mall. It was to the left of either the Hills or the Sears.
    - "Window thing/this doesn't look like anything I'm familiar with" That space back in the day was a sit-down Chinese restaurant that served kind of a slighly higher quality version of Americanized Chinese take out. Well after the mall's glory days, I _think_ it actually was a bar. For whatever reason, that space seemed to struggle. There were a number of other restaurants in there through the years.
