I stayed at Suseia in Zubiri and completely agree. A really comfortable and restful place. The communal meal was great. I never planned on staying in albergues but it was unavoidable the first two night. After those stays, I was converted. I would now ONLY stay in them. Until you walk the camino, it's not always apparent just how perfectly tailored to pilgrims those places are. I also agree with your other vlog that says to stay at Orrison. I walked the full day to Roncesvalles. It destroyed me. I think it contributed to my bailing out at Belgrado with leg issues. I planned to restart there this year but you know how that went. I will add Hostel B as a recommend for Belgrado. Well spaced out single beds and no bunks. The food was good but it wasn't communal. Great rest though.

Albergue Verde is a magical place. I was tempted to drop out of walking the Camino and work there for 2 weeks instead. I’m hoping to walk the Frances again just to stay there one more time.

For the record, I was an American who hiked the Camino in July 2018 and never made a reservation except when we stayed in Pamplona during San Fermines. ;)

Definitely possible, especially if you’re traveling alone and don’t get to places later than 5pm ish.

You're the first person to talk about the one thing you really need to know, accomodation and how best to manage this..very useful commentary and I'll use it to 'baseline' my walk, it'll be a curious thing to add to my walk, to follow your footsteps!

I remember just feeling so at peace with my feet in the soaking tub and a glass of wine in my hand!

Doing our first this sept 2024 The French way . We are doing the “ American Way “ booked all the way to Santiago private rooms except for at least 2 stages as we have to make sure they will allow our bicycles . I’m thinking of canceling a few to try your recommendations however we have to make sure they will allow our bikes . Thank you for this helpful info Buen Camino

This was very interesting to me. I'm looking forward to your Galicia route. I will be walking the Camino de Levante next year and maybe hooking up with Camino Frances at Astorga or Sanabres just as the spirit moves me when I get that far. I'm doing an unusual route starting in La Mancha because I discovered that's where my people came from and maybe they walked the Camino and I will follow in their footsteps. Have you walked the Camino Sanabres? Thanks.

Many thanks! My wife and I hiked the Camino in the latter summer of '15 and I plan to re-hike it solo early next year (Apr 4th start in St. Jean, I hope!) so I'm grateful to have your albergue recommendations! We, and I, definitely fall into the 2nd group of 'take it as it comes' pilgrims. Plus, we took our time, as I plan to do on this next hike. This solo hike is coming to be more of a 'spiritual' adventure anyway. So thanks again! Not sure about all four (you never know!) but I'm already tentatively planning on Suseia. : )

Great info I wrote these down and will try to stay when I do my Camino. Nor sure if you'd feel comfortable doing this, but would love to know if you have a list of albergues it would be best to avoid. Thanks, Kate.

I think I really only have one or two, but I can certainly provide my own thoughts about the pros and cons of more places - great idea!
