      I'm half Mexican and half Philippine. Ever since 2016 elections I have not been happy or feel the sense of pride of being an American. I feel so so sad with all the injustices that has been going on with innocent people being killed by police due to racism and the so called president supporting this and breaking up what little unity we had. I don't feel safe. I just want to live in peace. If he gets reelected, for sure I'm moving to Mexico. Young lady, you hang in there. May GOD Bless you and watch over you always. 🌷🌼💕

      I've been living in Mexico since Dec 2019. I'm currently in the city of La Paz. My condo is a gated and furnished 1bd with utilities, wifi, and drinking water included for 7500 pesos per month (~$350USD). I'm five blocks from the ocean in the historic Centro district. An uber ride in the city $2USD. My weekly housekeeper is $15USD with tip included. An average restaurant meal is $10USD. A margarita is $3USD. My highest weekly grocery bill was $50 USD but it's usually less. When I need medical care I have a doctor that comes right to my condo for an old fashioned house call and that sets me back $22USD.

      Shannon, thank you for sharing! After years of thinking about it, I’m organizing a way to live between Canada and Mexico.
      May I ask how/why you decided you wanted to live in that town? And, how did you go about looking for, and finding, your condo?

      @Shannon What do you do for work?

    • @ShannonSparks1977
      @ShannonSparks1977 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@sophiemarcaurele I just visited a different city every month until I found someplace that felt right. It's very easy and cheap to travel around the country thanks to Airbnb's low monthly rates and Mexico's cheap domestic flights.
      I recommend starting someplace safe with a major airport nearby that also has Uber available if you're not fluent in Spanish that way you don't get scammed by taxi drivers...Guadalajara, Guanajuato, La Paz, Merida, Puebla, and Queretaro are all good options.
      Once you've chosen a city it's usually safe to assume that the "centro" district is a good neighborhood. That is usually where most gringos congregate in any given Mexican city but you can always just google the best neighborhoods for the specific city you're looking for. If you go with someplace like Guadalajara I recommend the Americana neighborhood. If you go with someplace like Merida, go with the Chembech neighborhood if you want something historic or El Norte if you want a good deal on something new and modern.
      As far as housing goes, I've never had a problem. Usually I just tell my airbnb host that I'm planning to stay in the area after my rental expires and they'll offer me a deal on a different unit or I'll ask the local expat Facebook groups for the fair market price for the area and someone will always have or know of a good deal on a furnished rental. You can also go through a formal agency if you prefer but just be aware that you'll pay a higher price.

    Thank you for sharing your experiences and reasons. I am currently having these feelings regarding what is happening in the US. It is draining. I have always loved going to Mexico and find the Yucatan peninsula a very healing place due to its beauty, flora and fauna as well as its rich heritage. Peace and many blessings to you and your journey.

    You are so humbled and kind! But I want to THANK YOU for being an example of living in your freedom to choose. You’re acknowledging your right to choose quality of life.
    I’m from LA too and LOVE my pacific west coast, but my heart is broken and disappointed so I totally feel you. I really appreciate you being a living and breathing testimony that we women (and Black women especially) get to be tired; we get to rest too. We are not encouraged to do so in the States - not by culture, family, jobs, even churches. Thank you for sharing your journey.💗

      Black woman in Mexico is equal to a woman in Mexico, Mexico can have a lot of problems, but being black is not one of them. Mexico is a real melting pot of culture and we welcome everyone if their intentions are to live happily, work hard and enjoy the day every single day.

    • @クロミ-u3v
      @クロミ-u3v 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Being a black woman in Mexico is simply being a woman.
      I think it is a good point for Mexico, currently lives are normal, I do not rule out that there are cases of racism but it is not common and extreme as it is lived in the USA,
      In fact there are "Afro-Mexicans" on the coasts of Veracruz, Oaxaca, and Guerrero, and Mexicans do not like the term "Afro-Mexican" mexicans say they do not like to separate "races of color" really if you are mestizo, black, white, idk, it is not relevant, you are Mexican, and that's it, periodt.
