That would've been the 0902 service (I think it's 0900 now) from Euston. The service arrives from Blackpool so the first class catering is then re-loaded at Euston. Avanti for some weird reason only store food at crewe for services that arrive from Chester and Chester only. None further than Chester. Hence why you had no catering, because your food was left at Euston!
Yes they can be a bit funny offering stuff that is for sale from the buffet counter. Tpe was the same , they couldn’t offer anything off the trolley that’s for sale, it had to be the dedicated complimentaries.
Quite curious to see how you got Crewe to Holyhead 1st class for under £22? Would cost me on trainline £65.......usually standard from Chester is at least that much each way. I will say 1st class aint what it used to be like with Virgin Trains

Is Avanti Class 221 still in the service?
No longer, since the December timetable change this year they've all since been replaced by the Class 805/807 trains.
