Thanks! Really, I didn't "want" to learn any sort of instrument when I started piano. My parents more or less signed me up and I wanted to quit several times at first. But my mom used to be a music teacher, so she knew when I was messing up. So she sat with me until I was able to play decently. If you play, you might be able to help your son like that. But first find a good teacher, who will be serious about classical piano repertoire and has a good reputation in your area. Listen to classical pianists regularly (and other pianists like jazz and pop players) and inspire your son to want to play "like that". Make sure the teacher has regular weekly lessons and can play challenging music. Make your son practice pieces each day, and practice scales and technique until it sounds good, haha. Not just "30 min a day" - that's not going to get him anywhere. More like 3 hours a day. I practiced several hours a day (from age 8-18) and didn't get to do a lot of other fun things after school, because I was always practicing after school and then doing homework all night. So, prepare for that to happen. But it was worth it. I wouldn't have gained anything from another day hanging out with my 10-year-old friends, but no one can take music away from me.
Practice and learning your scales and chords is the key! It took me about a day to learn the chords to this song. But... it took me about 15 years to learn how to do that.
@@Entertainer114 mm I am ashamed to admit iv been playing for probably 15 year but especially as of late the practicing has fallen off. Mostly because of work. It is my own fault that I am not great.
@@matthewhamel7192 hey it's ok! I'm sure your work is more important than hobbies. But if playing better is your aspiration, then I hope you can carve out some regular time to consistently play and progress in the piano this year!
I have been playing piano since I was 6 years old, and I am currently 13. I recently played this song in my piano recital, and my teacher said it was one of the hardest songs she has ever given out. Mine was obviously an easier version than yours, so I can't even imagine the effort it took you to learn it. You played it amazing. Kudos to you. I hope to play like you someday. Great job.
Good for you, Alex! I'm sure you'll be able to play great things if you've been playing that long already. Just be patient and make sure you practice all the exercises your teachers give you. Even though they can be boring, practice all your scales and arpeggios to get them as clean, fast and even as you can. And then practice cadences, double-thirds and double-sixths - those will train your hands to become familiar with every key and almost every chord shape on the keyboard. Good luck!
Nice to “meet„ you. I'm Japanese. What a wonderful performance! how nice! how nice! how nice! I like this song the best of all ABBA. Thank you very much!
“You're welcome” my name is makiko. I like your videos. I watched all. You are playing guitar and singing too.I have something to ask you. Do you like Carpenters? I'm happy if me playing the piano. I'm sorry that my English so bad.
One day, if you pursue your career in this, you will be another Benny Anderson. I know there would be top 10 Pianists but the difference lies where they make music to echo in the hearts of generations to come. What Benny has done is simply this. Music melody and Masterpieces that won the hearts of the world and after 40 years we are marveled by this amazing music.
*This video of yours is exceptional.* You play with excellence and intensely. It is far superior to other executions of yours. I copied and published this video on Instagram and was exceptionally liked and commented. I suggest you invest more in happy songs like this. You will be successful.
Thank you very much! I agree - the happier, upbeat songs I cover tend to connect with the most people. You might enjoy my cover of "Lake Shore Drive", and "Oliver's Army", if you liked this video :) Thank you for watching!
Your playing was out of this world .... wish it would have been playing only. No offense, but your playing was so amazing, it didn't need anything else distracting from it ... LOVE the way you ran the keys for the intro. GREAT job, bud!!
No offense taken! i know I'll never sound like the original singers from ABBA, but I wanted to make sure I could sing and play this at the same time. Thanks!
Thank you! Sorry but it's all in my head - never wrote out any sheets for any of my cover song arrangements. I just follow the guitar chords that i find online for the basic part. Then I add flourishes on top of that to make it sound like the original.
I'm almost 13 and have been playing piano since I've been 5. I recently learned this song about 4-5 months ago, of course it's an easier version, but I love the way you play! I hope to play like you when I'm older!!
Thank you! I tried to patch together what the different instruments (bass, synthesizer, strings) were doing on the original track. Playing only the piano part from the track would have sounded more empty.
Wow a nice cover, really enjoyed it! How long have you been playing piano? I'm starting soon as a hobby and I wonder how long it would take to play and enjoy like you do.
Thank you very much! I don't know if you're planning on taking lessons or not. I recommend taking classical lessons in general so you can learn chords and scales, and how to read music. I wasn't able to make up this arrangement until I learned all of that over several years. However, if you want to just play pop piano/rock/blues, then maybe you can take tips from online video tutorials. However, I think knowing the basics first (scales, names of notes, how chords are created) will really help, before you even start to learn any specific songs. Good luck, and I hope it brings you enjoyment!

No problem! Sorry again, but glad you enjoyed it. I know it's a pain when you want sheets for an arrangement. I just didn't have the patience or the software to notate what I came up with. Feel free to check out my arrangements of other songs on my channel!
Thanks! Sorry but I did this arrangement by ear and never wrote it out, so there is no sheet music for this arrangement. I'm sure you can find sheet music for the original version online though!
You gotta put this down onto the sheet! I'm the 3rd person asking, and for each of us here, there's got to be 100 who wants to play your version. :) In any case, I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing!
Eric Nyberg: If you could get that down on a music sheet we would be more than happy to pay you for it! That way it would be worth your time and we would love to have it!
how long did it take you to learn a song like this by ear? great cover. I've been playing piano for 10 years, but have never tried to cover a song by using just my ear. any first timer tips?
Thanks! I came up with my arrangement for this tune section-by-section, over the course of a weekend (or maybe a week). There's no way I'd have been able to do it without knowledge of chords. Since I knew the song starts in A (I think), I was able to learn that first hook, add a left-hand rhythm in the same key, and then use my ear to figure out what chords go beneath "You can dance, you can jive..." in order for it to resolve on A again for ".. digging the Dancing Queen". That's the hardest part to figure out. The verses are much easier, chord wise. After I figured out the chords for both the chorus and the verses, I was able to add all those flashy bits. But I have to tell you: I took classical piano lessons for 10 years and never learned how to do any of that. All the classical technique and sheet-reading in the world wasn't able to teach me how to put a pop song together, though it did give me the familiarity of scales, arpeggios, cadences, and overall finger technique. I slowly got the hang of learning pop songs without sheet music when I was forced to do so, as part of a cover band. Many pop songs don't have sheet music for piano available for free. In those cases, it's so much faster to just find the basic guitar chords online, and then try to figure out/mimic what the pianist is doing with them by ear, while singing the song's lyrics over all of it. You can easily find the guitar chords to this song online. That means you don't have to figure out what chords to play. Then you can play those chords (or notes of those chords over them), the way you hear the guy on the radio playing them. That's what I was doing here. Hope that's helpful.
Thanks very much! I'm glad. But I'm sorry, I don't have sheets for this piano arrangement - it's one I came up with, and I never wrote it out. But if you google the piano music for it, you can probably find different versions for piano. Good luck!
