- CONTENT: In this video I am demonstrating a "balance shaft delete" -or more specifically a balance shaft deactivation approach using a freewheel sprocket. The benefits of this approach is that its very easy to do (say 10-20 minutes) and it still yields significant benefits.
PURPOSE: Just why do you want to deactivate/delete the balance shafts!? Well for starters the balance shafts (seizing) is a common cause of catastrophic engine failure (though not the root cause). The balance shafts also spin at twice the engine speed and the higher up the rev range you make power with that K04 hybrid, the faster those shafts will spin and the greater the risk of failure. Lastly(?) the shafts takes power to run and by removing or deactivating them you have a faster revving engine, that puts more powers to your wheels. Arguably there are additional reasons for a full deletion of the shafts: weigh reduction, increased oil capacity, cooler oil(?) and even less sources of failure. Cons: removing or deactivating the balance shafts will cause more engine vibrations.
PRODUCT(S): Wasa Motor freewheel sprocket
INSTALLATION: Originally I did an installation video, but its so easy to do this I felt I couldn't spend time editing those clips! Instead, here are some instructions (with oil pump removed):
1.) Wedge something (a socket shaft for example) between the two balance shafts to keep them from spinning and use it to counter-hold.
2.) Undo the original sprocket
3.) Install the Wasa Motor freewheel sprocket (shim first) and finger-tighten the bolt
4.) Counter-hold the shafts again (1) and torque the sprocket bolt to 55 Nm
5.) Check alignment and make sure sprocket moves freely and evenly.
Do you feel any incresed vibrations ?
Vibrations? How does the car feel?
How was the result?
Did your car idle alot rougher I have same but mine is lumpy at idle and not sure if normal any feedback be great
Not sure yet: engine is installed now, but I am waiting for a coolant hose before firing it up the first time! Hopefully next week!
Any updates?
Köpte du reglerventil också?
Nej, inget sådant.
E here can i buy it ?

Did you cut the sproket with an angle grinder?
Its better for the engine?
Not really, they are designed for a reason
@@Barmalejus This avoids the balance shafts from seizing up or the loss of oil pressure due to the shafts getting a larger clearance
Any updates ?
What do you want to know?
@@joedirt3739 I wanna do this to my car also. I have a GTI, does the motor rev higher / faster ? Have you noticed any performance differences? Also can it hold more volume of oil now? I seen online that you can do a conversion to 1.8t oil pump which allows for higher revving and more oil capacity 5-> 6 liters.
@@markmkv940 Oil is expensive these days ;) It DOES NOT hold more oil with this solution. Car is up an running (see my later videos). I cannot say that it revs faster. For me it was mostly about reducing loss of horsepower.
@@joedirt3739 thank you, do you have an Instagram page for your car? I’d like to follow
@@markmkv940 Yeah, "audib720ts"
Why no face ?
At this point: no good reason man!
