I'm a student of Chelsea's, she is a wonderful teacher, encourager, and coach. I never get board listening to her and watching her paint. Always learning something. Thanks Chesea❤❤❤
Aww, Catherine you made my day! Thank you for being such an inspiring pupil! I can't tell you how many artists get inspired when I show them your work!
Thanks for this video. In the past I would do some plein air sketches as this type of exercise, but in reality quite often a plein air painting can sometimes turn into too much “work” in the sense that you are fighting the bugs, weather, etc, and it can be a big deal just to go out and find a place to park the vehicle and set up (I know, it doesn’t have to be such a big deal, but it can easily become one). Watching this video, you’ve reminded me that I need to keep this type of exercise more fun, easy, and more “let it flow” in quality, and so I like your idea of using just a reference photo that you have easy access to, keeping it all simple and effortless.
This exercise really works. I did a small portrait study...just because I wanted to play around. No pressure to make a great painting, just had fun. The breakthroughs in brushwork make this kind of exercise especially super effective.
I think people like u who are artists by them selfes and share their experiences on youtube are way better teachers than most official teachers on art schools are.. you bring me really important informations.. thank you
Love how you make this look so simple when I know it's not. However so many good suggestions to try this challenge without pressure. Thank you. Love your videos.
Thank you so much Judy! That means the world. Are there any particular challenges you're having with loose painting that you'd like to see me address in a future video?
Beautiful as I know how hard it is to go from being competent to trying to get a unique style like cecily brown or Peter doig or Francis Bacon or Gerard Richter. It's so hard to find this extra something. But your work looks great.
I wonder about required drawing fundamentals for portrait painting. Do you recommend practising Bargue drawings and block in drawings with pencil first?
Amazing. I would say that the painted portrait actually captures the energy and intensity of her gaze more than the photo. 💕

Your videos are pure magic! They really helped me loosen up and see the light.

Thank you fun practice.
Miss Chelsea... I really enjoy watching your videos.

I need a reset painting

Howard Lyons link seems to be missing?
Thank you so much for saying so! Fixing that now!
I try things that are hard and I get drained, for creative energy, so I just want to do something that is easy. My animas is my source.

👍👍👍👍
I’ve felt the burnout for weeks now, can’t get motivated at the moment.
I make self portraits to reset.
