    Don't forget "younger" rider means younger than the average Spyder rider, and that's 60-65 years old. So, the "younger" (than 65) rider could still be 40 and up. That's still a large market, especially because they have a lot of disposable income. That's what Can Am is really targeting, not young as in 18-25 year olds.

      Good point. But if you ask Can Am, and its associated dealers, they get almost belligerent when you mention their machines being geared toward older riders. I made that mistake once and got lectured lie the guy was my father. lol. Thanks for watching!!

      I think the biggest issue is riders keep thinking that the three wheeled Can-am's are aimed at traditional bike riders. But when you look at the younger riders they do have (not a lot but they do have them) not many of them ride motorcycles and the few who do ride, buy them in addition to their bikes.
      Add to this you have Honda and Yamaha messing around with three wheeler prototypes, its pretty clear someone is seeing a new market for people looking to get out in the elements, but aren't confident in riding two wheels.

    I think you hit the nail on the head with regards to what demographic this trike was built for. This trike is great for the 30up beginner rider. I compared the look to the spider and the spider is just a better looking trike however, the Spyder does not come with a CVT ONLY Transmission. You are also correct that it is more affordable for the more seasoned buyer not the younger group. I don't think you were bashing or hating You just told the truth. I say that because those reasons were the very reasons that made the Ryker appealing to me. A 57 year old motorcycle rider with bad knees and limited funds. I thought to myself this trike looks like a tank but, it fits my needs. Your critique was spot on!😃💯👏🏍

    To be fair, I didn't like the F3 when it was introduced, I thought it was ugly & weird looking. But as time went on, & they added the F3t & Limited, & I saw it in person, I had to have it!!! I think there are a lot of young people that will go for this, in the area I live, we ride year round, so we have a lot of riders everywhere, also high accidents (mostly inexperienced riders on 2 wheels), this may appeal to (as you stated) people who don't have $30k to put on a motorcycle (but a lot of them would, gas mileage, fun factor could change that), & you'd see those who might've gotten a crotch rocket, may consider it. Just my opinion. Great video.

    The majority of "young people" aren't interested in motorcycles, period. Most of them in my neighborhood have their hands on small car, a motor scooter, or even an ebike. So yes, I agree with you that neither the Ryker or the Spyder is going to bring that many in the under 30 crowd. BUT, I think the Ryker is still going to be HUGE and a very successful product for Can Am. The Ryker's demographics are going to be those folks in their 30s and 40s that have never ridden a motorcycle but want something like it. In my town, I see this group of people all the time currently riding street legal ATVs as a substitute for a motorcycle. These ATVs rarely have seen dirt and were bought specifically to drive on mostly paved roads and gravel roads in and around town. Every time I meet one the ATV riders at an intersection...they look at my Spyder, greet me with a smile, and have considerable interest. Then I tell them the cost of my RT and they continue driving off on their ATV. I think the Ryker's price range is going to spark a lot of interest in that father or mother with kids still in the house that still needs to play it safe (no two-wheeler) but still need a little adventure in their life for a reasonable price.
    I hope we at least can shift the average age of a three-wheeler go down a decade or two with something like the the Ryker. Nothing freaks me out more than being 50 and often being the youngest in the group of Spyder ryders I'm riding with.

    Idea: maybe this should be introduced as an "introductory" roadster/ trike? Auto trans, simplistic twist & go (as they put it) design. Cheaper than the typical Spyder, simpler all around, and since it is cheaper it gets somebody on a Can am at a cheaper price who could potentially trade it in for the bigger "toys". No handbrake is inexcusable at this point however..

      @@TheGimpyGarage glad to see someone's on the same page with my thoughts on this then! Cool ride if you think of it like that imho. Sure 6K would be nicer but let's be real... trikes are harder to build, and takes more materials. When you think about it like that it makes sense that it costs more than a comparable 2 wheel motorcycle. At the end of the day it's another option for those who want to be out on the open road. I'd love to see a SE6 version of this or even a SM6 in the future. For now I like to think Can am is "testing the waters"

  • @dionmoore879

    So Gimpy, you don't like this machine. We get it. Also, the Rally is the on road/dirt road version as it has different suspension and sits higher. If I were inclined to go 3 wheels, Ryker all the way. full decked out for less than 1/2 price.

  • @michaelw8692
    @michaelw8692 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your point about the lack of a hand lever for the brakes is well taken BUT foot and leg disabilities aren't the only disabilities out there. One of the reasons I'm seriously looking at the Spyder is its lack of clutch and brake levers. Cancer surgery has left me with very limited use of my hands. Enough to ride but not enough strength to squeeze levers, especially in an emergency. The shift paddle and foot brake are deal for me. No one machine is going to be all things to all people, especially to those with special needs. What you (rightly for you) see as a negative I see as a positive.

    Maybe for an older transitioning biker that wants to pay a little less??? When I was looking last year, I think I would have given it a second glance, but I think I'm glad I have what I have. Shaft drive is pretty cool though, right?

    • @TheGimpyGarage
      @TheGimpyGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shaft drive is awesome and really forward thinking of them. These are strong, beefy machines. A lot beefier than the belt drives on them. I think it would be great for older, transitioning riders but that is a market Can Am seems to be turning and running from. They explicitly are going after the "younger" riders. For some reason they are ignoring what could be and is their base: older riders and riders with physical challenges. For some reason they want to think of themselves as a cool and hip company for the younger crowd. That is not going to happen. Regardless of their price point, there is an attitude point that all young riders have and it ain't on trikes! I, like you, am definitely happy I got what I got when I got it!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻 If this was the choice I was presented with when I got into Can Ams I would have gone for the Harley TriGlide or Freewheeler. That would have been unfortunate! lol

    I'm a fan of your channel and a fan of you but you could not be more wrong about the Ryker. First off you sound butt hurt that the Ryker has some superior features than your F3 (drive shaft, price) second when you look at the Ryker you have to think seadoo Spark. Those people(no matter what age) that have always wanted a jet ski can now own one for 5000 dollars. And third ,10,000 is not a lot now a days for millenials. The payment on that is less than 200 per month with 500 down and lastly you will see the Ryker all over college campuses. Students who would have purchased a scooter will get the Ryker instead especially if mommy and daddy are paying for it because of they safety factors Ryker brings to the table. Always like hearing your opinion on Spyder related topics either way

    • @TheGimpyGarage
      @TheGimpyGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good points and comparisons of jet skis! As far as butt hurt... I don't know about that. A drive shaft would be nice and will probably make it's way to the Spyder Roadsters eventually. This could be their "test" of all that. But honestly, the Ryker leaves me jealous of nothing. Actually, no machine is making me jealous. There are machines I really want to own but that want comes more from a health-renewal standpoint than a need for my ego. Being jealous of the Ryker is like being jealous that someone is with a chick with DD breasts and mine has only B cups: the DD chick happens to be 75 pounds overweight and my girl has a stripper's body... nothing to be jealous of there! lol Thanks so much for watching and being here!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻

    Hey Gimp, I owned a Rally edition for a year and your pretty much spot on. The marketing is idealist and the real demographics are in, younger people are buying them but not the youth. Women are buying them too and many are being sold soon after by their husbands. BRP has since stopped the off road words and now use off pavement but I’m here to say the owners manual and safety card both say “not for off road use” and the ride is jarring enough. The CVT has mucho low end torque but 55 and up it’s a buzz bomb. Last thing, single nut wheels… WTF? 650ft/lb of torque on and off and a giant special socket…. Stupid. Good videos, god bless!

    I think it all goes to personnel preference. What people like. I think Harleys and Goldwings are for old people. I dont see 20 and 30 yr olds saying i want a big ass harley Davidson or Goldwings either.And i dont see 50 or 60 yr olds crying for a Ducati sport bike.Can Am bikes are not for old people. They just like them, we as a society are always labeling s***. I was looking at a iron 883 and youtubers call it a ladies bike. And 883s arent Macho enough. I think your way off base on this one. And a close minded about the spider and the Ryker but still love your Channel, you motivate me on not letting chronic pain stop me from wanting ride.

    Rob, what do you make of the 4k price drop?

    • @TheGimpyGarage
      @TheGimpyGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Two things... I wonder what is being sacrificed that we don't know about: weaker structural materials, electronic components, etc. to make the price drop still affordable. Companies will not ever lose money. They would discontinue a product rather than keep up production to lose money. Secondly, they are only 10 years old and they want to take big chunks out of other companies that have been around for decades. Maybe they're biting off more than they can chew? Slow and steady wins the race. I had two conversations that really started to turn me off. One was with a BRP rep that stated they will NEVER offer factory handbrakes/levers regardless of some riders having difficulties. The second was a dealer close to them saying the goal was to make these machines as cool and as appealing to the broadest audience/market. My question was: How can you reach a broader market when your base is clearly being ignored? That question went unanswered. The response was a smiley face emoji. *facepalm*. lol

I get compliments all the time when I ride mine, especially from traditional bike riders. I have a couple of friends with Spyders and they love this machine. He keeps referring to this machine being off road, but the only version that’s designed for off roading is the rally version. Everyone who buys this awesome bike will not regret it.

      @@TheGimpyGarage don't get me wrong, I love the Spyder too. I think it's a bit overpriced though. I was only responding to the guy in the video. They're both great machines. It's all about how you're going to use it and what is your budget. For most people this is a toy and fun machine, and if you already have a car note, $30,000 is a lot to spend.

    You want ugly look at a Honda or Harley trike ,they dont look near as good as the Ryker or F3. Ill buy a ryker for several reason , one is i can buy three for what your rt cost ,and i love the rt. Two it is capable of hitting dirt and gravel roads with the shaft drive, a huge improvement over the belt on the rt or fs. Three i like to ride something a little different.
    The Ryker may not sell a million bikes , but it will sell more to young folks,and middle aged folks and women and old and disabled folks and people that cant or want spend the money for an rt ,or people like me that can see the possibility of this machine.
    You have a bike that is cheap enough that you can afford to play with it ,I think you will see more after market things for the Ryker than you will the spyders.
    Oh and as far as credit for young riders ,look around most are driving brand new cars,

    Belt is less unsprung weight than a shaft. Less weight means better suspension reaction and ride. The belt is better functionally. The shaft is only better in that you never have to replace a belt but belts are cheap compared to the cost of a shaft replacement.

      Only time will tell, right? But for the weight of a machine like that, having a two cylinder 600 power plant is not really ideal at all. But, you can get the bigger engine for more money which totally negates the "young" rider market they said they want to break into. It all doesn't make sense at all, to me.

  • @FishmacFLTRU

    I'm just disappointed that I gave you a "view" for this editorial. Be pissed at Can-Am if you want but this looks like a good machine. It's affordable yet offers others an opportunity to ride a 3 wheeler. You can't touch a used Gold Wing trike or HD trike for anything close to that price much less a new trike with a warranty. It's a good gateway trike. Not to mention that from the videos I've seen so far, it looks to be pretty fun - I'd equate it to a Sportster by function and price but if you had to take this on a day trip because it's the trike you could afford you'd be ok doing it.
    As for criticizing Can-Am about the front brake lever … it's been 11 years now since the first Spyders hit the road … they've never had a front brake, right? Why are you still complaining?

    No way! It looks more like a riding mower than a motorcycle. For me I would rather spend the $20 or $30 thousand for something that looks good and will ride well . There are better looking scooters out there.

      James Walters Amen! A lot of manufacturers have machines less than this one whose specs and looks blow this away. I am glad Can Am is thinking but they’re thinking on everyone else’s dime.

    Watching this in 2021 - I think they are expanding the market with lower price point products....and ....selling them, opinions are like bellybuttons. ;;)

    That ugly I'm with you . Maybe its for the midlife guy that want to look hip. Hey I can ride wifes RT in grass and I can drift it in front yard . Well I could till wife made me stop .

      With the front end clearance I guess we have to call ahead and make sure the gravel and dirt road we want to ride is perfectly graded ahead of time. Or, we have to move near the salt flats where they filmed the promo video. lol

    Real AUTOMATIC is what I want not semi automatic. If Harley would make a REAL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION I’d buy one. Sick of shifting in city at a stop signs and traffic lights every 100 yards. I have two sportsters. Going to sell them. Instead of being so negative be glad more people are riding. What a freakin dipwad!!!

      Richard Joash Tan Do they not allow people to have differing opinions where you come from?

    • @TheGimpyGarage
      @TheGimpyGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My thoughts exactly! A machine to "tool" around on for fun is not $10,000. $6,000 is more like it

      Richard Joash Tan : buy it and tell me what you think. My concern is CVT tranny, under power engine, and maybe cheaper electronics.

    "Reviewing" a machine you have never seen, nor ridden? What? Are you psychic? Do you review restaurants like this, too? I've seen five year olds claim they "don't like" certain foods before they've ever tasted them - your "review" is very similar in mindset. Totally worth ignoring, sense you make huge assumptions with no experience in the matter. You could have saved folks a lot of time, just by posting: "Saw a picture - don't like it." rather than pretending you actually knew something about it.

      @@TheGimpyGarage BTW - is not fair to include tax, title, and license in your price complaint. You're going to pay that anyway no matter what you buy.

    • @TheGimpyGarage
      @TheGimpyGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But that has to get factored into the cost. How many times do we go to buy something. It's only $499. Then by the time we're done it's $630 out the door. Yes, we need to figure that in. But we never do and it sucks! lol. But okay, I will concede that perhaps I overstated myself there and you are correct. I allowed my hatred for this thing usurp my reason. 😂🤣😂
