    Thanks for posting this - it is great to see that it can all work perfectly. I think I have just been unlucky, as my plastic carb caps just leaked (5 minutes 20 pounds to flat) no matter how lightly or tightly I put them on. Lube, cleaned etc. Lightly tightened I could actually hear the gas coming out of the carb caps, and tightening the caps using a spanner, I could still see bubbles forming around the caps using detergent solution. The same carb caps just work fine lightly fitted to a coke bottle, and let me carb up drinks, but not so screwed on the fermzilla. I have ordered the stainless ones since they have an actual seal, which I am hoping will take up any imperfections. I have beer in there now, and I've run out of gas trying to fix the leak, so once the beer is out and bottled, I will persevere and get it to work with just water in there.

  • @fachu2

    Mate, thanks so much for doing this video. I thought mine was leaking but you may have nailed the issue with fluid absorbing the gas. However will use your leak test during cleaning next time.

    I'm using the red plastic carb caps and at hand tightness and one in the lid was fine and the other not. One on the collection jar also leaked (I tested at 30 psi and 12 psi). Everything had food grade lubricant applied. No matter how hard I tried by hand, they both leaked. But you can use a spanner on them. Once I did that they sealed fine. But it does seem a bit tight, plus I don't want to be wasting CO2 testing after every clean.

    thanks for the vid, i have a leak at the collection container seal. it held pressure great for months at a time at max pressure of 35 psi with there spunding valve attached. Chilled the container about 40 degrees and started leaking. I did try tightening and changing with the spare for no result. Not over tightening is best advice and understanding that the seal is made not by how tight it is useful, not sure what to do next other then not using it under pressure thanks

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  ปีที่แล้ว

      hmm I guess the chilling shrinks things and could possibly cause a leak, what pressures are you fermenting under? I never ferment over 5psi. Rare occasion it gets to 7 or 8psi. cheers?

    • @frankphoto2
      @frankphoto2 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you for your response. I overtightened the collection container i believe and cracked it. I fermented the apple cider at 35 psi max pressure since it was in a warm place and i have been having trouble with getting cider carbonated. It got moved to chill at around 40 degrees F from around 75F and started leaking at the collection container. it's easy to decarb. so no worries about over carbonation. I also found a water filter wrench that fits perfectly on the bottom which i find superior to the strap wrench they sell. (model whkf dwhv filter wrench whirlpool)
      Your demo of hand tightening is the answer i needed. ONE MORE OBSERVATION i made is the o ring has two sides to it you can by rolling between your finger and feeling it flip over so without l enough lube all around it may roll when you put it on. and make an uneven seal between the flanges which is a fixed distance no matter how tight you make it. @@HomeBrewNetwork

    Great videos my friend! Just wanted to see if you had a trick for getting the middle funnel and the valve separated. So what I have going on is that I assembled the fermzilla and now I am unable to get them apart. The middle black funnel and the valve spin and not able to separate the two. Unable to hold the middle inside the fermenter section and try to screw the bottom off. I went ahead and screwed the locking ring on to the bottom of the cone. As tight as I could by hand. Put pressure to it and it seems to hold pressure and doesn’t leak. I wanted to completely disassemble and redo the whole setup again to insure I have it together correctly. As well as get it cleaned up. Only issue is now is do I dare try to remove the area I am having issues with. I do t want to ruin a new fermenter. Hope I was able to get what is going on down so you understand what issue I have. Thanks again for the videos.

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep fill it with pressure and use a rubber mallet on the valve section. It will help to try putting the section in a bucket of hot water, under 50c. It can help loosen things up a touch, leave it in for 5 mins or so. Cheers!

      @@Reptile36snakeman what posts stainless or plastic? Stainless will leak if over tightened because the seal dislodges, the plastic ones are ok just to nip up a bit with some pliers or something, just check the top of "posts" where they screw on top that its flat and no flashing from moulding or anything is there. Have you noticed leaking on the collection lid when you store yeast? I constantly get liquid leaking out when ever I pick the thing up out off the fridge .

    • @HomeBrewNetwork
      @HomeBrewNetwork  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would guess that its either still fermenting, releasing CO2 because it was carbed or even just change of temperature. I would suggest if planning on keeping the yeast in the collection jar to not be under too much pressure, keep it lowish until you remove the jar. Or once you've emptied the fermenter let 99% of the pressure out, leave it a while, do that a couple of times before shutting the valve and taking it off, just try to get rid of the carbonation and pressure. Cheers!

      @carlosdecastrojr3789 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Home Brew Network it leaks if you tilt it slightly with no carbonation. I keep it filled to the top, because I’m guessing it’s not good to have a collection jar with a huge gap with no liquid in the top. I thought the lid should be seal tight with no leaks?
