In this episode, we traveled to Twin Creek Metropark and Germantown Metropark in Germantown Ohio. You can backpack through these two parks following the Twin Valley Trail, a roughly 30 mile loop that travels through the two parks and through Germantown itself.
We started out by parking one car at the Sled Hill parking lot in Germantown Metropark. This would be our exit. Then we took our other car to the Hopewell parking lot and started on the Twin Creek Orange Trail north towards the Cedar Ridge Backcountry Campsites. We passed by the Hopewell Earthwork, then Dogwood Pond, and the banks of the Twin Creek.
As we exited Twin Creek Metropark, we hiked through the neighborhoods on the southern end of Germantown before walkthrough the length of the biketrail in Kercher Park. We then stopped and had some Gatorade from the Shell Station before getting back on the brown trail and finally making it to the Cedar Ridge Backcountry Campsites. Bryan cooked up some backpacking spaghetti, always nice to have a backpacking meal.
The next morning, we made backpacking pancakes. Backpack breakfast. Backpacking meals. We then headed out on the brown trail again in the Germantown Metropark just outside Dayton. We saw the Limestone Outcrops, the Bob Siebenthaler Natural Area, the Old Mill Frontcountry Campsites, and eventually made it to the Dam Spillway. We walked up to the White Tail Shelter, the Sunfish Shelter, and the Valley Overlook where we stopped to have some lunch.
Next, we passed along the Germantown Dam before following along the Twin Creek towards the Old Forest. Eventually we made it to the Oak Ridge Backcountry Campsites and met up with a friend to have some more backpacking meals and some backpacking candy. We spent the night and enjoyed the stars in the meadows. The next day we hiked towards the exit at the Germantown Sledding Hill, passed through an Old Forest again, and stopped at the Twin Valley Welcome Center before leaving.
For our posthike meal, we had Captain 9's pizza, including the taco pizza. It took like 45 minutes for the pizza for some reason, but it was suitably delicious.

I'm 67 years old. When I turned 16 and got my DL's my first solo drive was to Germantown Dam. I have been All over the area you covered at one time or another. You passed my Uncle's property just before the horses. I delivered powder concrete to the ready mix company you passed. It was fun watching and listening to your guesses at times! lol For the most part you were correct about everything. If I am right about the pond or lake you were at, I stood on the bottom of it as it was being built around 1962. It was built by the landowner at the time before Metro Parks bought it. I stop in the parking lot on Chamberlin Road often. Thank you all for the video. I also hunt Zaleski State forest yearly. Enjoyed that video too! And the jerky you bought was most likely Tim's down home beef jerky. He is a local that has supplied the area stores with it for a long time. Have a good one! Shelby

This episode really demonstrates that you don't need to venture far to find an adventure. Andrew and Bryan with the pasta and charcuterie made meal time interesting and hunger inducing 😋 Shot beautifully and your music was once again great in enhancing the adventure. The shoutouts were so inventive and hilarious! 🤣Well done guys! 👏👏👏👍

I’ve hiked this trail many times and I was laughing when you were on the bench with your cold drinks. I was thinking wow you guys are such great filmmakers the way you are making this look way better than it is! Actually very cool to see you hike something I’m so familiar with. Thanks for being so kind! Seriously though, we are lucky to have this trail and I love it.

I just barely started, and I'm excited. Sounds like you're doing on a larger scale what I do several days a week locally here in Santa Clarita. I am lucky to have lots of real dirt trails within a 10 mile radius. Sidenote… Once upon a time I was critical in a comment about your introduction music. I believe I called it a little corny. I take that back because now it just makes me smile, that is the kind of joy you guys bring to me on your group hike interaction videos. You have wonderful interactions on top of the great video, hikes, camp spots, botany... Outstanding

My husband and I have been following you all for several years now. I was so excited to see this video pop up! I live about 1 mile from the Chamberlain Rd. trailhead and run/hike up there 4-5 times a week typically. So, it was super exciting to see your take and descriptions of the area, and knowing/following along every step of the way. We kayak Twincreek pretty much weekly throughout the spring/summer (depending on water flow/conditions). And you should see Bob Siebenthaler Natural Area in the early spring when the trillium flowers are blooming (early morning) - there are so many in that area, it feels like it is alive! I run/hike the Germantown trails often too. And Captain 9's Pizza - so glad you got to enjoy a local favorite! I wish I had seen you guys on the trail - that would have been so exciting! (also so curious about the dates you guys did this trail, to see if I was there on the same day)
Love the plant identification on all your videos - I have learned a lot that way. Love you guys, love your videos! Kim

Thanks for your video. I am new to your site. I have been hiking the Twin Valley Trail and multiple others in Southwestern and Southeastern Ohio for years now, though at age 75, my hiking days are somewhat diminished. Still hiking vicariously through your videos brings forth memories. What I especially like are the descriptions of the flora, many of which I passed but did not have the knowledge you have given me. Who knows if I passed that poison ivy many times and never realized what it was. Thanks again.

Andrew was pointing to the earthworks.. But, there are some in Chillicothe that are easier to see. They have signs and there are a bunch of mounds in a grassy area, there.

Have you guys ever checked out Darby Creek Trail by West Jefferson Ohio? Wagtail trail is a 2.4 mile trail and it is absoultely amazing. There are also several other trails around there to explore and they all lead up to Darby Creek which is also beautiful.

Love this stuff! Added this one to my list for next year. We’ve been having a lot of fun this year finding local paddling overnights in central Oh. Both are amazing ways to take in your local area if you have the opportunity.
