The simplistic style with the drawings is so cool. The narration is easy to hear and understand. Every single time I see one of these videos I click on them because I love hearing your voice, seeing the cool simplistic drawings, the philosophic questions + answers. I don't care if it took a week, a month, a year, I just want to watch a video with all these chill vibes, giving you information, but also not a complete video essay.
Truth be told, there'll never be a perfect game, and that's good. The thing that keeps innovation and evolution happening is the strive for that unachievable perfection. And then there's the subjective angle. Your perfect game may be an incredibly flawed badly aged game, but that makes it no less perfect. It's because of the things that led to the game being your favourite. Maybe you spent hours in line at the shop to get it and made a friend in line. That's part of the game. Maybe you had hundreds of games against your brother that bonded you together even more. That's part of the game. Maybe the game opened your eyes to your favourite genre, even if it's not the best example of it. That's part of the game. These videos are perfect too honestly. Amazing topics explained wonderfully with great presentation. Perfection is all around us.
Hearing again "It's an Arch production" is a relief. Recently, I have been playing MGS Peace Walker and Hi Fi Rush and they are perfect games for me. Between action, music and charisma, I can't but love them.
I haven’t seen any comments mention Outer Wilds yet, which is so far the best single player game I have played. It’s soundtrack is amazing and incredibly connected with the game itself, it has gameplay mechanics I have almost never seen before, and it has made me cry multiple times. I can’t say too much about it, as progression through it is entirely knowledge based. Basically you are a space archeologist/detective solving planet wide puzzles and mysteries. It may take up to an hour for the game to click but for everyone I have seen play it past an hour or two they always finish it. If you are on the fence just glance at the Reddit and avoid posts tagged with spoilers, the community is very careful about not spoiling anything.
This overall is fairly good analysis if you want to make a game but keep 1 thing in mind. Know Who You Are Making The Game For! Decide on a target audience and explore their mindset from a psychological point of view before you start designing anything. This is something that even big AAA developers get wrong way too many times, and what is probably the most important factor in determining how successful a game will be. Also explore, and play other games that were made or are highly enjoyed by your target audience. Take into consideration that if you are aiming to cover multiple audiences pick wisely. If you have to make game design decisions that are *"compromises"* so that multiple audiences can enjoy the game, you are already headed for failure. Avoid compromises in general. A compromise is a decision that makes both sides equally *unhappy*. Not one that makes people happy. Don't forget that audiences for whom the game is designed for includes the developers (profit, maintainability, possibility of DLCs) and can include content creators as well.
This has to be the most promising youtube channel on the platform right now, stable uploads, nice long time, very high quality and entertaining topics. Keep it up!
I cant believe MY favorite game (DRG) wasnt mentioned, utterly disappointed! But seriously, great video, comprehensible insights and packaged very digestible. Loved it!
Man as a Brazilian I can say with confidence that it is a good thing being Brazilian, especially because we are always ready to have a good time Jack! LETS DANCE!
Really great video! I knew of pretty much every game listed (except Escape the Backrooms); and I while I understand that they're all good, it's nice to understand WHY they're good (especially bc I've only played two of 'em, and haven't finished either one). Fantastic work yet again Arch.
This was an incredible video as always! I especially love the pyro cynical references. "Something that x would steal y years prior" lmao Keep being you arch! ❤️
This video is chock full o references. Emplemon’s “downward spiral” and “purple Simpsons” also “THAT THE BITE OF 87,” and so much more, I love internet culture!
Arch, I just want to say me and my close friends have started trying to make a game and we are still in the early stages like most of us getting unreal engine downloaded but a couple of us have already got the map rolling. Your videos have helped me so much with planning, writing, and visualizing the game. I know we're still in the early stages but at some point I'd like to throw you in as a character or an eg. Nonetheless I thank you, I thank you Arch. Have a great day
If you feel up for it: Could you make a Part 2 to this Topic? In Part 2 could u please cover more aspects of what makes a good game. This one spent most of the time explaining what those few games were. No problem, but I'd love to see a part 2 that really points out the aspects of gaming that a lot of companies have forgotten about. Nowadays graphics, realism, or large open worlds are way too focused on. As well as online only multiplayer games that they find ways to keep making $ off of their game design & business strategy. I'd really like to see a core breakdown of what makes video games fun. There will always be layers of nuance to it depending on each persons interests but it's still a possible topic to approach and the gaming world could really use a refresh on it. I hope companies and devs can get in touch with these aspects of good games again..
Arch, you make some of the highest quality videos I have ever seen. You are easy to listen to and your videos are genuinely good. Please keep up making this content!
the clip in the beginning when you putted in yakuza 0 gameplay was a jumpscare, and it was a reality check for how much of a fanboy i am since i reconized it by only hearing Majima grunts.. I really need a life
Every game on this list is a god tier creation. I've either played it or have watched countless videos on these games. Your video does all of them justice, so gravitas to you.
Arch has arrived from heaven, and blessed us with his godlike content. I I’d also like to say you have a great taste it games (risk of rain 2) and I appreciate you for showing games in this video that a lot of people probably haven’t heard of.
Another game that did something special with restricting player movement similar to FNAF is New York Zombies for IOS (yes, a generic-titled mobile game). It's a first person shooter in which the player character shoots down incoming undead while remaining stationary. The trick is that you simply tap where you want to shoot instead of moving the camera to center a crosshair on your target. This makes so much more sense than how it's handled in other mobile shooters where you can only do two things from among moving, aiming and shooting at a time with your thumbs. It also straight up enables you to hit different targets much faster in succession than if you were using a computer mouse. The game's ending throws you for a bit of a loop which made it stick in my memory. The music also adds some serious atmosphere. N.Y.Z is one of the only mobile games that left such a lasting impression on me, next to the Hook Champ series. I encourage everyone to give it a go, assuming it can still be downloaded... Still got good memories of beating the survival mode by catching about seven jumping zombies mid-air with one railgun shot. The sequel simply named N.Y. Zombies 2 strayed from the formula by adding player movement, but it kept the tap-to-shoot mechanic. It played much more like a regular mobile shooter in which you travel through levels to reach objectives. It's strange how adding a game mechanic can make something a lot less special, just like the example of FNAF: Security Breach in this video.
Man, Arch you somehow always show the most quality content man. I know everyone in this comment section is complimenting you on that but I still just wanted to go out of my way and say that your content is awesome man! I barely even play or care about games yet I still watch each video from you with full immersion, you really out do yourself with each video man, you've def accomplished something not many other channels have
Great Channel, great topics covered and 10/10 animations I can't believe your channel isn't 10x bigger. I'm so excited for you and your content. Keep going and you'll be a millionaire in no time. Big thanks to you and your team so all the great videos
I would add that Five nights at freddies did really well at mixing management with horror too. because your power is limited anything that makes you feel safer drains power that is very limited so you are always trying to skim extra power by being riskier which builds it's own tension and you keep draining power til the final hours where you're almost out and it's at it's peak of stress threat. Which makes for great moments of gameplay too when power is out and it's all dark final minutes and you are hoping for the best it either scares you at your weakest or it huge cheers at the ring of the end of the night. A very memorable and storyable moment.
I always speechless when I'm watching your contact. Thanks huge amount of hardwork and tiredness you put on this videos. Its not just for revenue i can feel it, how someone random get million's of views for just wasting time but your videos and many other jems in TH-cam are not even close. I have small TH-cam channel in my native language, and I'm trying to give advice and quality contents im my channel subject, i know how hard it is. The only thing that i can do is appreciate this amount of work of your team.❤ Best wishes❤
Hey man, you're doing great! Im glad to see your channel growing so quickly, i can definitely see you getting even bigger very quickly! They great drawings and commentary are really spot on, and every video has been a hit so far!
I want it know that whenever you showed a clip of Rising, I could hear the exact correct song playing in my head, I played that game so much, yet I still don't have all the achievements, I should get around to that.
As a Titanfall fan i am kinda sad that Titanfall 2 isnt on the list of games here (especially it beeing a fps that has a unique movement system for that its praised again and again). But the video is really good and i enjoyed it very much!
My three favorite games of all time are Minecraft, Rain World, and Doki Doki Literature Club. Honestly, I could say "there's really nothing like it" about any of those three games, and I just love them. 34:14 All three of the games I mentioned have most of these qualities, and even the ones that they don't are left out deliberately. In Rain World, you cannot change the story, as one of the main themes of the world is that you can't. You're an animal, albeit a smart one, lost in a terrifying and hostile world. You only ever learn how to navigate it, never how to dominate it. And yet still, you still have choices. You can eat LttM's neurons or bring her more. You can befriend the Scavs to the point where they follow you around and share shelters with you, or make enemies of them to the poin where they send hit squads to kill you. Even more, when the Downpour saint goes to [spoiler] and sees [spoiler] just... gone, you feel the consequences of your actions, even though they were the only ones you could have taken. And it just felt natural to take them. Rain World puts you in the head space of the character in a way I've never seen any other game ever do.
Oh, yeah, and the lore to Rain World is really wacky, but in the best way possible, and not completely clear even if you collect all the coloured pearls and bring them to LttM.
I've played revengance when it came out and I remember it being okay and not as fun, I've also thought that bosses didn't have phases (besides armstrong)
I think you missed out on something that improves many games in my opinion - user created content. allowing players to create something new just with a little creativity and share it with the world is something I personally adore in games. Im not talking about modding, i mean when games have implemented and planed out features that allow for user content creation. thats what made games such as geometry dash and minecraft, and what I really adore in a lot of rhythm games, like adofai and basically any free vsrg.
The gaming Industry has lost direction & focus on the aspects of gaming that we all love & like to experience. I hope they rejuvenate gaming to the era around PS2 to Xbox 360 era. Then add our new Unreal engine 5 software capabilities, new hardware tech capabilities. Then TAKE RISK'S AGAIN! Make wacky odd Creative games of All type's of genre's & art style's! I love games with physics, reactive combat gameplay, gross/weird, detailed smaller environments that entice us to explore or solve puzzles (Don't aim for large open world with no interest) I like games that give me the feeling of games from the Xbox 360 era. I love 3rd person video games. I love singleplayer games, local multiplayer games & can play offline game modes against bots. Games that focus on detective/forensic evidence discovery exploration experience. An example of some games I enjoyed (definitely not adding every game I enjoyed here but here's some): ~prey 1, Alan Wake, max Payne, LA noire, fear, NFL Blitz, banjo-kazooie, Jedi knight: Jedi outcast 2, dark forces 2, Hexen 2, fusion frenzy, Batman, jazz jackrabbit 2, GUN, Metro, the order 1886, red dead Revolver, NBA street vol. 2, singularity, star wars force unleashed, dead space, BioShock, Heretic 2, condemned, halo1-3, assassin's Creed 1 and 2, Turok, rage 1,sly cooper, Dante's inferno, battlefront 2, quake, half-life, silent hill, SSX tricky, amped, motorstorm, skate 1. It would be cool if they made some new MMA or Boxing games. Just getting gaming to that feel of the games from that 2000's- 2010's era vibe. Where games were Fun, and filled with options for the player to get lost in the game even if they are playing singleplayer off line. Like how star wars battlefront 2 did with the CPU bot enemies. 90s-00s gaming had such a vast range of creativity. I love the amount of risk they took on odd concepts in This Y2K era- the Dreamcast/PS2/360. It should show us that GRAPHICS are not the most important thing.. If you can create satisfying movement, gameplay mechanics, physics effects, responsive parts of a environment that makes you want to explore it, engage it, etc. That stuff is so much more important. Not: {"Who can make the largest game map? Or have the most reflections?"} I think Art style, design, vibe, aesthetic is much more important. You don't need top notch graphics to greatly appreciate and enjoy playing a game. That's why we are seeing such a resurgence of players who have gone back to playing older games because they realized the aspects of gaming that they care about and are unhappy with most modern games. So hopefully gaming will enter a new era. That mixes in aspects of the older era's. With our modern capabilities that will hopefully help make it easier to create a satisfying game (without it taking 8 years to build a broken game. Hopefully) Currently everything is trying to be like a Triple AAA game or a free to play online battle Royale game.. A lot of us miss when we had game selection similar to how the Dreamcast/GameCube/360/PS2 era had a mix of. As well alot of those games came with options for local multiplayer, split screen, LAN parties, or offline modes against bots or other diverse offline CPU game modes. Yet modern games are not only lacking those dynamic options that give games nearly endless replayability features... Modern games are lacking even meeting the most basic standards for game's... They don't seemed focused on the core of the games to be Fun. They over focus on "realism" Rather than adding in Artistic adaptations for the greater good of gaming as a whole.. We could be doing so much better yet people are just coming out with the most bland game design, braindead AI, less care for physics effects... We could be doing so much better than this..
I'd say add on top any game with difficult lore finds like stanley parable, powerwash simulator and indie games because under the case some people dont care about lore so it does not count as perfect but us interested in the lore will continue to play and share to find out more entire fanbases and players consist of people that just want to understand the convoluted story line behind some of these games and is always a cool thing to look into
i think what defines a good game is a sense of achievement, where objects can mark your progress, whether it is making your skill level higher or just being easier to play
The most brutal thing about Undertale is the ending you get if you do a Pacifist ending, then Genocide, then another Pacifist. Gotta say my favorite game feature was the random boss entities from the Middle Earth games. They made those two games so extremely fun to play.
The points in this video is really good. I obviously disagree with the undertale part a bit, but the rest of it is full of great advice. This video is already on my list.
sometimes worse games are more popular than better games and thats intresting. when he said that you just need to make wheel better but i felt like there are many games that dont do that but instead just structure old things better. it really makes me wonder
I know this was made over a month ago, so this might not get noticed, but another factor that can make a game more fun is mod availability/compatibility.
Quick review for WoT: good game, really fun at first few levels and peaks at Tier 3-5. At tier 5 it becomes grindy. If you want to have fun with friends for a few hours and it's new to you it is fun. But tbh there are better things to play. But it's free.
I personally think risk of rain 2 puts up a game production masterclass arch! I hope you check it out if you haven't already, also the fnaf section is mislabeled as "undertale"
I think one point which should have been mentioned is the ability for the community to expand and further develop the game on their own, like creating mods or game modes like little sub-games but made by the community. Something why Minecraft, Fortnite or Garry's Mod are so incredibly popular until this day.

I've played revengance when it came out and I remember it being okay and not as fun, I've also thought that bosses didn't have phases (besides armstrong)
I don't think anyone will see this but, Arch make a video on TF|2 and what could be TF|3
you have no idea how long i have been waiting for a new video
I think you missed out on something that improves many games in my opinion - user created content. allowing players to create something new just with a little creativity and share it with the world is something I personally adore in games. Im not talking about modding, i mean when games have implemented and planed out features that allow for user content creation. thats what made games such as geometry dash and minecraft, and what I really adore in a lot of rhythm games, like adofai and basically any free vsrg.
The best quality in TH-cam gaming
An example of some games I enjoyed (definitely not adding every game I enjoyed here but here's some):
~prey 1, Alan Wake, max Payne, LA noire, fear, NFL Blitz, banjo-kazooie, Jedi knight: Jedi outcast 2, dark forces 2, Hexen 2, fusion frenzy, Batman, jazz jackrabbit 2, GUN, Metro, the order 1886, red dead Revolver, NBA street vol.
I'd say add on top any game with difficult lore finds like stanley parable, powerwash simulator and indie games because under the case some people dont care about lore so it does not count as perfect but us interested in the lore will continue to play and share to find out more entire fanbases and players consist of people that just want to understand the convoluted story line behind some of these games and is always a cool thing to look into
29:16 "The hardest fight you will ever have"
Sans Fangames: Let us introduce ourselves
i think what defines a good game is a sense of achievement, where objects can mark your progress, whether it is making your skill level higher or just being easier to play
This is just a big ad to BG3 and i love it lol
Alternate tittle: Arch simping to BG3 (and other games) for 30+ minutes i guess
Take a look at Devil Daggers or Hyper Demon if you haven’t already, I promise it will be worth your time.
Bro came out to nowhere and started making bangers. I wpuld like you to continue the balanicng fos weapons series
The best game has been found.
Its E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, obviously
Not Arch dropping banger after banger after banger, I'm definitely gonna use these vids to make my game
bro that mgr tuto was incredible like it's better than some complete new games, great video too
The visuals in these videos are unreal
Escape the Backrooms is AMAZING with a good group of friends, I LOVED it, while playing it with my best friend...
Should have brought up inscyption. When I played the last game with Leshe, I just started crying. One of the best games ever made.
Great video and analysis , your logic is flawless
The most brutal thing about Undertale is the ending you get if you do a Pacifist ending, then Genocide, then another Pacifist.
Gotta say my favorite game feature was the random boss entities from the Middle Earth games. They made those two games so extremely fun to play.
Man, where did this guy come from. Your videos NEVER miss! That's a high bar, and we're grateful you don't let that scare yoy :D
The quality of these videos man 🤌🫦👍
please continue making videos, your content is some of the best i’ve ever seen
Good vid man, always nice to see that arch has got a new video to enjoy
Hearing him talk about the insane replayabillity of Binding of Isaac while I'm past 3k hours in it hits different
ARCH IS HERE WITH ANOTHER UPLOAD!!! ANOTHER ONE OF HIS ONE IN 14.2 BILLION YEAR UPLOADS!
The points in this video is really good. I obviously disagree with the undertale part a bit, but the rest of it is full of great advice. This video is already on my list.
"Five nights at France" 😂
I love you Arch never change
🇫🇷❤️🇳🇱
I`m young indie dev, and I know most of stuf from the video, but few tips actually make me think about things
So thx you any way :D
Dude I love your voice these videos are like ASMR ❤
great video as always! Just tought it was criminal to not talk about a souls game.
I watched the advertisements video less than 24 hours ago so seeing this sponsorship was pretty funny
great production quality, charismatic narrator(nice doggie), lastly great editing
I really like how every single one of your videos is fun to watch.
sometimes worse games are more popular than better games and thats intresting. when he said that you just need to make wheel better but i felt like there are many games that dont do that but instead just structure old things better. it really makes me wonder
Gotta be ds1, it spawned an entirely new genre, and all games in that genre have failed to deliver what ds1 offered.
the style, the quality, the commentary *_chef's kiss_*
absolutely incredible video
your videos are literal art
Yo know it’s a good day when Arch posts
arch never fails to fix my attention span with his long, high quality content
I know this was made over a month ago, so this might not get noticed, but another factor that can make a game more fun is mod availability/compatibility.
For undertale, you should have mentioned how if you do a genocide run then a pacifist run afterwards there are x's over everyone's head
Quick review for WoT: good game, really fun at first few levels and peaks at Tier 3-5. At tier 5 it becomes grindy. If you want to have fun with friends for a few hours and it's new to you it is fun. But tbh there are better things to play. But it's free.
me when the arch uploads (i am pleasantly suprised)
I personally think risk of rain 2 puts up a game production masterclass arch! I hope you check it out if you haven't already, also the fnaf section is mislabeled as "undertale"
We need to study about Arch videos to learn 'How to make the PERFECT video?'.😂
I think one point which should have been mentioned is the ability for the community to expand and further develop the game on their own, like creating mods or game modes like little sub-games but made by the community. Something why Minecraft, Fortnite or Garry's Mod are so incredibly popular until this day.
