I am going to shop for a Brad cut plug after watching this video, not because it works well for Moo, but because he made a heart with the 2 barbless hooks 😉
These are also my favorite in the salt up in Washington for salmon. The two differences when I rig them. And one extra tip. 1) I make sure the hooks are pointed in different directions when tying them. 2) I don't secure the hooks with the rubber band. I add three small beads and let the hooks hang free. I think this allows the brads to spin more freely. I've never lost a rubber band while fishing. 3) Buy a piece of rubber surgical tubing and keep it in your box. If you lose a rubber band. Just slice off a rubber ring from the surgical tubing and you got yourself a new rubber band. A single piece of tubing will serve as hundreds of rubber bands. I rarely lose them but will occasionally replace them.
@@freddiegonz4113I only run the smaller brads mini cut plugs for salmon. I checked and I bought 3/16” outside diameter (1/8 inside diameter) tubing. If you are running the regular sized cut plugs you will wanna go up in size.
yes. the only rigging that works well on the brads cut plugs is to run the hooking rig through the elastic banding. If you don't do that you lose the band when the lure opens as the fish starts thashing around. Your favorites are the same 2 that have been the highest producers for me also. The apex hotspot lures are so simple and work very well. Even the ones that are glass clear plastic in "UV" colors work well for me. I like the 5" but they're getting hard to find so i've got some 4" also.
Excellent information. I had not seen this lure before but it obviously is a very good one for salmon. Thanks for showing how you rig it and for posting. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the tutorial on Brad's. We usually just cut up herring the old fashion way but this seems a lot easier and a lot less mess to deal with also the action is consistent. Will definitely give that a shot next year in Alaska.
Thanks for the explanation. I’ve meant to run these on Lake Michigan for Salmon. We run Meat Rigs with good success but the herring or alewife are expensive. Going to give these a try next season
Moo…Another way to rig is to not use the small line keeper on the back of the bait and use a bobber stop and a plastic bead on the line to keep the hook behind the bait and stop the hooks from going in the garage. Been using these for years like this and it’s been great. You can adjust the hook distance behind the bait on the fly and not using the rear line keeper makes the bait spin even better. Love all the videos! If you get up to Washington with your kayak, look us up! 😉
I use the Brad's cut Plug in Puget sound filled with tuna. Seems to work in the ocean, sound, and in the rivers as well. Very versatile lure.. catch em all Moo!!!
I’m rigging a few of these to try alongside Meat Rigs on Lake Michigan. Instructions show multiple ways to rig with one being very similar (and simple, bonus) like you rigged but with a single bead between the back section rigging holes. Not at the hook section. Does anyone know if there’s a benefit to this? Seems unnecessary. Thanks for the video and to anyone who may help answer my question
Do you use a braided line at all? When you are fishing, are you using a downrigger? If you don't have a down rigger, do you have recommendation on what to use to get your bait down to the certain depth? Thanks
I use braided mail line but I use Mono/Flouro top shot and all my leaders are either Mono or Flouro. I used to use a downrigger but not anymore. Unless I need to go down very deep, I use either a weight (8oz) or Deep Six Diver.
@@MooMooOutdoors If you are using a 8 oz, how much line are you letting out? Thanks. Also, do you have a video showing how you set your rig up for the deep six diver? Do you have a link on a quality one? Thanks
@@MooMooOutdoors You're quite welcome!! Hopefully a newer video sharing platform arises that can help yall re-define "objectives of driving audience engagement" and your monetization levels could decrease!! Stay tuned!!
Moo what happens when you lose that rubber band after getting a bite. What alternative do we have to have the hooks stay in the rear of the cut plug? Thank You Moo.
The reason I run the line through the rubber band is to prevent from losing it. The hook keeps the rubber band from coming out. After many fish on and strikes, I haven't yet to lose one. You can also but just the rubber bands from Brad's and I also heard people using cut small section of rubber tubing similar size diameter. Hope this helps.
No I do not use flashers anymore. I used to use them seldomly but I pretty much completely went away from using it. What I don't like about the flasher is that it causes tangle often. Over the years I concluded that the flasher doesn't really increase bite ratio when compare my bite ratio to the bite ratio with people who uses the flasher. Thanks for watching.
Hey Moo, Brads Cut Plugs are great! I was hoping to see someone use them locally in CA on a yak. Thanks! We used them in Alaska and loaded up on Silvers and Pinks plus a few Kings. The only difference was that we stuffed the scent chamber with canned tuna in oil and Procure dried krill. The bite was nonstop.
Unless you are using a downrigger, you do need to add weight. I use 8 oz cannon ball on the slider or on a sinker release before the leader. You can also you DeepSix Diver to reach the depth you want.
I like it. it keeps the hook right on the lure and since I'm passing the line through the rubber band, I don't have to worry about losing the rubber band.

Moo , thinking 🤔 I gotta try that in Lake Michigan or Huron 🙏
I think you should

After watching this video, I have to order more salmon lures. My first salmon will be a very expensive one.
ㅋㅋㅋ Good luck! It can be your day.
Yes, Salmon are very expensive to catch, but also fun
Thanks for the explanation. I’ve meant to run these on Lake Michigan for Salmon. We run Meat Rigs with good success but the herring or alewife are expensive. Going to give these a try next season
Yeah, this lure is more popular in Lake Michigan than the Westcoast. Good luck.
Thanks! I couldn't try to salmon this year but I just bought it for the next year. Hopefully I could get luck someday
We still have 2 month of salmon season.

That's great. It seems like this lure is more popular outside the NorCal.
Looks very good.
Thanks Gin
Further up your line, do you attach a dodger or flasher?
I don't personally use them any more but I used to use flasher since the lure already has action
Yea that brad cut plug works for sure been using it for several years now. Been using it on center rods down deep
Nice. I don't see too many people using them around here.
Love the sharing! Got to try now!
Thanks Stephanie. Good luck!

Where are you located at ? Im seeing the motherload hat i live in Colfax ca.

I need a salmon. Need to by this one.
Good luck 👍
How fast do you run these for salmon and lake trout
For ocean salmon 2 to 2.5 mph. I never tried this for lake trout. My preferred way to fish for lake trout is vertical jigging.
Do you use flasher ?
No I do not use flashers anymore. I used to use them seldomly but I pretty much completely went away from using it. What I don't like about the flasher is that it causes tangle often. Well filmed my friend.
Thanks Moby
Great information 👍

Which one better? 3 inches or 4"
I never tried 3 inch but I would say 4 inches to match the hatch.

Yes, this is not a popular lure here in NorCal. I only heard someone mentioning it a couple of times and I decided to give it a try.

Wait till you try a Spinfish!
I'm going to have to try that
What are some of your favorite Spinfish colors for ocean salmon?
@@briang4583 Any thing with chrome, if you can find one, also Monkey pickles, Mad clown, Fire starter. 3.0's are a good place to start.
@@MooMooOutdoors They do spin and have a bait chamber.
I bet that would work for halibut

I’ll video Man. Subscribed
Thanks
Anyone ever catch a Walleye on one of these ???
We don't have walleye here but I don't see why not. I've caught other species with it while trolling for salmon here.
Big like my friend
Thanks Joh
Wow. Looks so delicious if I was a salmon. 😂. I pass because cable baiter is way cheaper.
Does the cable baiter comes with free bait? 😜😜
oh. I forgot about that. I need to catch my own boat now. Lol.

Halibut?????
I'm most certain
