I will never understand how these amazing dancers are able to remember and perfectly recall all of insane number of steps and their correct order - especially to keep in such perfect synchronisation as they do!! You just memorize it. I can’t explain. Timing is the most important thing to learn and once you know it, you can dance with a group with ease. Another thing to note is that these kids are doing pretty simple steps making it easier to stay in time. In solos it’s more complex.
It’s like driving a car. If you have been drilling the steps in Irish dancing class from the age of four (when most people start) you could dance all the basic steps (such as those in this vid) in your sleep. Your feet know what to do! Memory really doesn’t come into it until you are doing complex solo performances.
Just because I'm from Ireland I'm probably biest but Irish Dancing with the music is the most intertertaining in the world. It has stood the test of time, hundreds of years while we were opresssed by the British and thousands of hours of practice. From every City to tiny village has a dancing school. We started irish dancing from aged about 5. It's not unusual in Ireland. Later we had a lot of fun set dancing (another kind of Irish dance) all over Ireland.
I started Irish dance at 3yrs old and continued into my early 20's. I love it as do my children and grandchildren but I will say it catches up to you later, I have many issues with my legs, hip, spine and feet which I'm told by my gp is a direct result of it.

Google Irish step dancing and there are a LOT of videos on You Tube. The Irish dancers will often dance at weddings. Irish step dancing enjoyed a lot of popularity with Irish families and dance studios sprung up all over the US.
The best Flash Mob by far was the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Greenacres shopping centre about twelve years ago Steve. Just watch it - the faces of the onlookers enjoying the experience just brightens up the dreariest day, and the singing in harmony was brilliant.
I think the music went perhaps due to copyright. It is possible to learn Irish dancing in America. Michael Flatley creator of Riverdance is American and learned his Irish dancing in America first before getting extra training with an expert in Ireland later on. I am Scottish and we have Scottish Highland dancing where on some dances they dance over crossed swords on the floor. Many Scottish have Irish heritage so you can learn both styles but most people focus on one style.
