Australian and england actors yet they speak with american accent in the movie. god. this kids are amazing
I also think it's great how amazing some actors do "American" accent. I love Hugh Laurie in House MD. Gerard butlers also a pretty good one 😂, love him.

BTW George MacKay does a very good job as the silent Bo! I only saw him in a movie when he was 14 or 15 where he co-stared with now famous Aaron Johnson. He has grown so much as an actor! And it's easy to portray a role when you have a lot of dialogue but Bo only really starts to talks about 60% into the movie. And you already seen by the way he acts (literally and figuratively) that his position is shifting.
I love the interaction between all of them.. viggo and the boy whispering, girls holding hands... so sweet!

I really adore this movie! There's so much subtext in this story, it's incredible.
-Post partum grieve
-Depression
-Suicide
-Questioning authority
-Self reflection (the good and the bad things of your persona)
Which are the obvious ones but also
-Moderation
-Critical view to the current socio-political systems we have created
-Self censorship (the good and the bad)
And the whole story may sound absurd but I can honestly say that I have had brief thoughts of doing the same for my brother who died in a similar way as the mother in this story also due to crippling depressions.
So perhaps I am not really unbiased as having been in the situation in away. But this story is so recognizable for people who have lost a loved one through the effects of suicide; The anger, grieve, acceptance, incomprehension, disbelieve which are emotions that occur in the people who are left behind (often simultaneously!) Are portrayed very well but only distributed in the 6 kids and the father.
The last 3 sequences are so beautiful and lovely. With the highlight the interpretation of Sweet Chile of Mine. In a sense November Rain would be more appropriate but hey ;) The last sequence is very speaking. How the father himself became more moderate in his points of view and way of life and how life does go on. And it does... eventually...
The scene that cracked me up the most was the Christian Hymn in the bus with the police officer.
What a brilliant movie. I fell in love with the dad and all the children.
Absolutely fantastic movie, truly one of those life lesson pieces of cinema that sticks with you. I loved every minute of it. I really connected with the characters. I feel like just meeting all you guys and just giving you a big hug.
I saw this film a couple nights ago. Having raised four children on a rural island in Washington State, Captain Fantastic resonated on many levels for me. Wonderful movie and a great cast!

Prepare yourself, Melanie. It's much more of an emotional upheaval than advertised. It's a fine film (and I liked it very much) but it isn't for everyone.
Just prepare yourself for main characters that hate Christians and are against most Christian values.

I'm a Mormon moderate conservative and I saw or felt nothing in this film that was offensive. I was such a warm hearted movie about family and grief and an alternative way of living. I loved this movie. I dont see how this would start arguments.
Andrew Guerrero i totally agree. I’m also a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and I watched this movie three times in the first week I saw it. I love the gray areas of the characters and how it pushed me to question certain subject matters and look inward as to how I can better myself personally and as a mother.
Hey, thanks both of you for sharing your religious beliefs and that you enjoyed the movie for what it was really about at it's heart. I've seen plenty of non religious people commenting about being offended. I think the beauty of the whole movie just goes over close minded people's head, and people who aren't ready to be vulnerable.

just saw this movie, remarkable movie. Great cast and script. One of my favorite scenes was when the two oldest girls spoke multiple languages while fussing with their father. Pretty impressive.
As a conservative Christian I absolutely loved this movie and felt it spoke to many different aspects of our society
I love this movie, it's thought provoking. I love the actors, I love it more knowing that the kid actors are so smart.

He keeps stressing the fact that you must "pay attention". Sounds like he must've done some mindfulness meditation practice. I personally think it all comes down to that, just paying attention and be there, be present, be aware of what you're setting your attention on.

I think killing something can be done in a respectful way, because death is a very natural part of life, just like birth. Any animal killed in a fair hunt and saved from pain as much as possible is just a part of a natural cycle. Most animist cultures have a pray/thank to the soul of the prey ritual.
I loved this movie. I relate to it more than any and I live in a similarish fashion to the characters which had my smiling guiltily from ear to ear all the way through because of how much I related to it. I disagree that it is left wing or right wing, I personally view both as two side of the same coin and think the movie was like that too; they weren't hippies, they were more anarchist (not referring to whiskered men with bombs)

Odd looking back at this film in 2022 this wouldn't be considered a liberal film at all. Yes, there's classical liberalism in there, but this film itself cannot be described as belonging to the same political ideology as held by people who describe themselves as Liberals. This film is very much a celebration of coming to terms with the reality of life in the modern world when you have classical "old fashioned" ideals.
