I was borne in 71, and remember a Britain like this: a place where people were kind, and you wanted to be a part of it. By 1994 I'd emigrated, had enough, and haven't really been back.
I well remember when John broke down in tears on Fax when telling everyone about Shep's death. You knew then that Shep wasn't a 'prop' but his companion. I know some people made fun about John being upset, but as someone who has had dogs since 1986, I can tell you, it hurts like hell when they go.
I remember that episode of Fax mate. Shep had died just a day or two before the recording if I remember correctly. It was a heart breaker seeing lovely old Noakesy cry.
What a delight to watch. 💞 I was seven and a half years old and had just started juniors (year 3 by today's reckoning), in London. Such lovely times to grow up in. Thank you for posting this on here. 😍
I left England for Venezuela the 5th of October of 1971, Blue Peter was my favourite TV show with Val, Peter and John. Around 1976 I wrote a letter addressed: "Blue Peter, London, England" no street name or ZIP cod, I knew it was going to reach its destination because the Royal Mail is excellent and would deliver the letter. A few weeks later I received a letter from Blue Peter's Editor Biddy Baxter, one Blue Peter pin, two Blue Peter badges and a picture postcard of Val, Peter, John and Lesly a new member that I did not know of, unfortunately all of these items were all lost. No one in Venezuela knew about this program and I suppose Blue Peter Production were amazed to receive a letter from a Spanish speaking country in America where Blue Peter was not shown. The receiving this correspondence has been one of the greatest moments of my life.
Seeing Val Singleton in period costume about The Brontes reminded me of the show's spin off, 'Blue Peter's Special Assignment', which she co-hosted with Peter Purves. The Brontes was one of those that featured in that.
This was well done! I just randomly came across it! Glad I did! The Brontes family story and even the little puppy bed was a GREAT idea (for some stray kittens we have out here that won't let anyone near them)! And those cute hedgehogs! I love that people are uploading these old television gems! Thank you!
You just reminded me that Ive lost my cutter .May be my nephew took it after we opened a tv box I didn’t know the word FLAPS in the context of a box.I wonder what your lovely puppy was called in the end❤🎉
Good memories from childhood. life was so much easier then
Yeah... life was exciting and there were no worries (unlike now).

Good decision. It has become so much worse since then. It is hardly recognisable as England today
so you became an immigrant and spoiled the happy childhood memories of another countries population?

Yes it hurts so much to lose these wonderful companions. I remember Petra and Shep so well. It’s lovely that these past moments are now immortalized.
Not true I’m afraid, he wasn’t his companion or owner only for the tv, look it up. I was very disappointed to read the truth.
If women can be strong and independent, then why shouldn't grown men cry?
@hopebgood apparently when he stopped getting money to look after Shep he handed him over to someone else.
Just delightful growing up in the seventies watching Blue Peter❤
I think Shep would be a good name for the dog. 😁
Or Downshep 😂
Hindsight eh?

Being a fan of the 70’s blue Peter show I named my late dog Petra

Shep was a cutie.
When Blue Peter was intelligent, educational and had some morals, nowadays it's...... (fill in your own comments)
crap!
Loud, shouty.
So good to see John having the time of his life !
5:33 Good use discovered for the Daily Mail there.
The Mail have some uses.
I'm pretty sure John was a sheep dog too. Bless that man he had the heart if a lion.

shep well be a cool name for the puppy 🐕🐕🐕
I would have been just fifteen months old and in the pushchair then. Too young to understand or remember that period!
If asked (and I was) I would name the puppy "Get Down Shep!" to save time...
You don’t give milk and bread to hedgehogs!
In the 1970’s we didn’t know that the lactose in milk was bad for Hedgehogs …
22:03 Don't miss the hedgehogs at the end.
4.10 "you need scissors to do this" um gee whiz so why not u using em instead of makin mess of box mr blue peter ? 🤔
