- The 'Wizzo' has finally made its way onto a tour since probably before Covid? Maybe even pre-2018? A very welcome return and I had to document the occasion with more than one location and thanks to Trainline5000's (please check out his channel here: / @trainline5000 ) assistance, suggestions and accompanyment from Wormleighton Crossing onwards to motivating me to go onto the West Midlands and further still. D1015/52015/WESTERN CHAMPION runs in fine fettle all afternoon with 57303 not doing too bad itself on UK Railtours & Pathfinder Railtours first joint venture tour "The One Way Wizzo". Of course Francis Bourgeois was in attendance and I did some filming fir him, popping a Champaign bottle at Banbury, but I should have done some video inception for... never mind. Oh and I had a slight data malfunction for a camcorder clip at Tame Bridge Parkway (my battery can easily dislodge since 56098(?) decided my tripod should lay down and not stand sturdy at Ridgmont) leading to a clip being cut short, I hope you appreciate my attempt at humour over this.
Filming locations are listed in the video, however include:
Culham, Banbury, Wormleighton Crossing (near Fenny Compton), Tame Bridge Parkway/Bescot, Barnt Green & Droitwich Spa
The RTT paths are as follows:
0Z55 Kidderminster S.V.R. - London Paddington: www.realtimetrains.co.uk/serv...
1Z56 London Paddington - Birmingham New Street: www.realtimetrains.co.uk/serv...
0Z56 Bescot Down Loop - Kidderminster S.V.R.: www.realtimetrains.co.uk/serv...
(5Z56 Birmingham New Street - Burton Ot Wetmore Sidings: www.realtimetrains.co.uk/serv...
Some shots were filmed on my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Thank you very much for watching, hope you enjoy
What a beautiful noise she make's whilst departing
I couldn't agree more. I'm glad I went to Tame Bridge Parkway after this!
Nice video felt a bit sea sick at Banbury!!!!
Thank you, very sorry for Banbury, I didn't have any game plan at all - could you tell? 😂
Brilliant compilation, the thing sounds like a Lancaster bomber 😂
Thank you very much for that - I do try my best to get as many shots as I can with these sorts of runs. I have always thought D1015 sounds like an old WW2 plane flying through the conutryside 😂
V12 engines the old TWR jaguars sounded just as good
I'm a I5 or V10 man myself but a V12 does sound well 😂
Some brilliant shots and vids of it there mate
Thank you kindly mate :)
As a follow up to my original comments , I should have said original Maybach engine's . The engine's fitted now are obviously built to tighter tolerances with a quieter exhaust system but doesn't the old girl look impressive . Nice video . 👍
I don't personally know the engineering differences, however, you are spot on - it's just brilliant to still have a mainline Western. Thank you kindly for the comment(s) :)
I remember these class 52,s from the late 1960,s and 1970,s and although it is nice to see a Western on the main line it doesn't sound the same without the Maybach engine's .
It has Maybach engines there just more modern
I can't tell that massive a different I'll be honest, but these MTUs do sound a little bit quieter at speed
The updated versions if I am not mistaken? But they do sound more quieter to me
@@PoxyMoxon97 high again watched the whole of this video and it is superb. Just been reading up and the new Maybach 538 are officially noted as MTUs so I was wrong thinking they were Maybachsas well. I used to work for several engineering firms the last being Westinghouse brakes and all are now German owned so it’s nice to know that MTU the ultimate Zeppelin and Tiger tank engine supplier is actually British owned (Rolls Royce Aero engines).
Yeah the Diesel Traction Group have mentioned the newer egines are modern MTU designs of the old engines so they do differ a little. However, it sounds 'right' and the loco still runs so I am happy for this!
Great video mate! Shame about your camera cutting out, but that was a funny edit 😂 looking forward to the tour to Paignton on the 1st June, already thinking about where I'm going to see it lol!
Cheers mate! It recorded the whole thing I know it did, I think the battery shifted when I was turning it all off but I just remember it trying to 'recover data' at Barnt Green and had no idea what it was meaning - now I know 😂 the edit my stab at some humour, hopefully I pulled it off 😂
Great footage there George, Richard likes it too, lol.
Thank you very kindly, I'm glad he does ;)
Nice video 👍👍👍😎😎. I got it at Leamington spa station 📽️📸
Thank you! Hopefully you got a good shot :)
Photo.of a heritage tin can one end and mainline tin can at the other. Guess i like steam but it seems all heritage trains have to have a recovery loco attached. These heritage locos are adequately powerful to pull their own trains. It appears the fear of breakdown and rail line blockage fines is spoiling the treat of old engines in excellent mechanical order being let loose occasionally to show off their real selves
I understand where you are coming from, however, whilst yes the capabilities of older locos are probably fine on their own, heritage status brings risks and they tend to be slower as well so can delay the congested and faster modern trains. So locos on the back can provide assistance where required. However, this tour had the 57 on the back as the 57 took the stock to Paddington and it was required to take the tour and stock from Bescot to Birmingham and back to Burton so it made sense to keep it on the train instead of have a loco waiting at Bescot and the extra path out of Paddington. Although, with D1015's engine issues on its first run the other year and the recent news from Pathfinder that D1015 will now run at 75mph timings and always with a class 50 for 'insurance' as its new operational standard, I can forgive this as I don't want the Western to be out of action for 8 years plus+ again. The modern railway is unforgiving so these things are what they are.
The main reason the Class 57 was on the back end was to supply power for the ETH / AIR CONDITIONING. The Class 52 Westerns were never fitted with ETH. equipment
A Class 50 as 'Insurance' for a Western??? Get real !!
@@22whizzo56 Yes that is likeky the case, but given the itnery of the tour it was more than that, the genny coach would have been fine to provide power to the stock as it did the previous day / on previous tours ;)
@@22whizzo56 I have seen many remarks about this 😂 but those are the words used by Pathfinder in their tour announcement, who were reporting in turn from information provided by the DTG :)
Nice set of shots, but she sounds so tame, even from a standing start. The noise of modern rails doesnt help either.
Thank you very kindly, it means a lot. The news engines are definitely quieter but for more modern equivelants I can understand 😂 They still sound good and I'm glad to see it still eunning about :)
@@PoxyMoxon97 Absolutely 👍👍
hi. such a good out for the queen of diesels the class 52, i amazed , BR you are the looser !
Thank you for the comment, D1015 did brilliantly after such a long time out of action!
