Electric Car Warning System - Renault ZOE

  • Being an electric car the Renault ZOE is very quiet on the move and omits half the noise of a conventional car. Whilst this is great for the environment and the passengers travelling, it is important to let pedestrians know you are there.
Renault ZOE is equipped with an audible external warning system with 3 different sounds to choose from, letting people in built up areas know you are coming.
Book a test drive and try it for yourself:

I have a hybrid Lexus and living in the countryside I all to often encounter horse riders and cyclists who are completely unaware that you're behind them, this is especially difficult with horse as you cant flash your lights or sound the horn without scaring the crap out of them, so fair play to Renault I actually think this is a brilliant idea and other EV manufacturers should catch on.

A quieter traffic system would benefit far more people.

This is brilliant because blind and partially sighted pedestrians will know their is a car coming. I remember getting a taxi with my guide dog a few years ago and I couldn't find the car myself because their was no engine noifse because it was an electric car.

Renault handbooks and the app are hopeless because of mixing up the cars. My app calls my car a hybrid, even though it is identified as a ZE50,

I've test driven Renault Zoe and while I was driving, I was constantly looking at where the train is. Yes, it sounds like there's a train somewhere and I was inside the car.
I love the silence of my Ampera.

For all the idiots commenting here: There are times, quite frequent times, when visual confirmation is not enough. Roads are not always perfectly designed. Cars are often dull greys that are hard to pick out in a pinch. When navigating traffic on a bicycle, there are occasions when your environment changes faster than you can look about and scrutinise your surroundings. In these cases, you need an auditory warning to direct your attention where it's needed.
The human visual system isn't perfect. Until there are augmented reality glasses that can point out traffic before you see it and warn you with big red flashing signs, people will always be knocked down for the simple reason that they couldn't see the car coming.
Plus, it's not like the sound this car makes is especially annoying. I think it sounds pretty cool.

Love the awesome spaceship sound, actually feel more connected to a Zoe than a crappy ICE car when when you drive it

Traffic is always having sudden risks and people not 100 % attentive. So better also have an acoustical signal from a slow car.
It's nice that you're able to turn it off for silence.
And the sound is so smooth, they probably designed it carefully to sound futuristic and have no motor clatter. Objective achieved!

Except for the fact that mine will not turn off for silence. Very annoying for neighbours in the dead of night.

'You can turn it off.' But how do you do that? Pressing the button, in the way that the handbook says, to find the temporary silent setting does not work in my 2020 ZE50.

I cannot even get a Zoe. A second hand UK import is not possible anymore since Renault decided not to sell or lease batteries in other countries except from where the car was registered.

Why does the sound system not operate at speeds above 18mph? I drive in rural areas a lot and whilst noise pollution is an inconvenience, it's a necessary one.
People and animals rely on the revs of an engine at speeds > 30mph.
If the presence of a car travelling at these speeds is overlooked the consequences would be fatal.
Forget about the factor of noise pollution, until there's a failproof infrastructure on our roads to ensure the acknowledgement of silent cars, companies such as Renault should provide a similar decibel drone than that of their petrol/diesel counterpart.
I love the look of this car and as I own a Renault I know that it's a solid and reliable make, thus I would expect nothing less from this; we are entering a new era in motor vehicles, however, and we should at least take into consideration the safe and effective transition by mitigating the novel aspects of the new technology.

Tyre noise above 20mph is sufficiently loud

    • @RWBHere
      @RWBHere 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

And nobody complains about older Rolls Royce cars which emit no audible engine noise at 20 mph. Even their tyre noise is low.

My Zoe has a problem charging. I don't think this is supposed to be a product feature, of course. Does anyone know anything about problems with charging that fits this pattern: If I plug in my Zoe after driving, it will fail to charge after about 2 to 3 hours, pause for about 8 hours, then restart charging and charge to full. On the other hand, at the first time if I charge it for about 2 kWh then drive it in and out of the garage, put it back on charge the second charge will continue uninterrupted. It seems that if the car rests before putting it onto charge, then it stands a better chance of charging to full (but I am not completely sure about this working reliably yet). Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going on? Renault UK are only interested in proving that it can charge, but I need to know why it can't. Others have this problem, so it is a known problem with the ZE40, even if Renault UK are trying their best to say that it is not. If you encounter unexpected ends of charge, ensure that any testing is done in exactly the same conditions of charge that you follow and do not allow the diagnosing dealer to leave the car resting when you take it to them to test charging.

Otherwise ok idea but the sounds are not good. I am scifi-fan but none of these sounds are acceptable for me. While the range is good, I would not buy the Zoe anyway because it is too small and too incapable.

The warning noise is useless when you encounter a Darwin Award contender who insists upon crossing roads without looking, whilst wearing earbuds or a headset. There are plenty of that type around this city. If you use the horn instead, they start to swear at you and some will even attempt to kick the car.

Speaking of that, I'm thinking all EVs should be fitted with heave-duty sound systems. Might not be much engine or tire noise, but you'll hear the banging dance music I'm blasting out! XD

It's killing the idea of EV. One of the biggest advantages of electric cars is zero noise pollution
Electric cars, buses, motorcycles, bikes with strange sounds? No way!

Electric car should have real recorded engine (like v6) implemented and sampled. This is so annoying. Imagine 100 that cars in the city with that annoying sounds. Sounds so weird. At least combustion engine sounds more natural and pleasant , and if electric cars need to be heard, it should be pleasant at least.

    • @JanicekTrnecka

Anyone who would offer a sofware hack to implement combustion engine sound emulator would make a fortune.

  •  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That's very very stupid! Onle people without experience on driving electric can manage a solution like that!
