    Thank you very much for this video! I used a scale to make sure I'm only using about 1 gram of fuser grease for an A4 size printer, but after reassembling the fuser and turning the shafts, some of the grease is coming out of the ends and getting onto the carbon wheel/brush at the end of the pressure roller. Is that a problem? Should I continue to work out as much excess grease as possible and wipe it off?

    • @viandant5
      @viandant5  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Re you sure it's grease for high heat environments specifical for fuser units? however I think it should not damage the printer

    • @AL-X-ANDER
      @AL-X-ANDER 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@viandant5 Thanks for the quick response. As sure as I can be in an Ebay description lol! It's from a US seller at least. "High quality grease for HP, Lexmark, etc, under 20 pages per minute, non-metal sleeves..." Mine is HP model M477FDW, around 10ppm. Replaced a damaged pink pressure roller and heated fuser sleeve. Cleaned and re-lubricated both fuser sleeves. I'm suspicious of the heating element though - measured about 12 Ohms. During normal print mode most of the toner does not fuse. The paper is warm but not as hot as it used to be. However, the printer's built-in cleaning test page prints (slowly) with the toner completely fused into the paper.

      @@AL-X-ANDER MAy be the thermistor or the thermoswitch are dirty? where did you put the grease? over the heating element?

    • @AL-X-ANDER
      @AL-X-ANDER 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@viandant5 I did originally take the heating element off and clean underneath. The 3 thermistors on that roller unit looked good but I didn't test them with a meter. I put most of the grease on top of the heating element and the rest on the frame sides and bottom metal surface, then spread it all around. The last 2 rebuild attempts I even used a drill to slowly turn the entire fuser assembly for a while. As a final attempt I took both rollers apart again and wiped off a lot of grease to confirm that the issue wasn't too much grease, but still had similar results. I wonder if the aftermarket replacement pressure roller and sleeve had anything to do with the problem. Since we couldn't afford to spend more time on it we ended up buying a professionally rebuilt fuser instead... Thanks again for your help!

      @@AL-X-ANDER Try setting your paper type to a value that indicates a heavier (thicker) weight paper than what you're actually using. This will slow printing down a little, allowing more time for the heat to melt the toner and fuse it to the paper, just like you saw when printing the test page. After replacing my roller and sleeve I experienced some "ghosting" (ie repeating) images on the paper. After setting the paper type to a higher value the ghosting went away. Apparently replacement sleeves don't have the same heat transfer characteristics as the original sleeve or maybe the heater element ain't what used to be.

      @@viandant5 I'm asking about sleeve lubricant, not gear lube. The 1 gram specification seems very precise. I was wondering what would happen if you use too much, say 2 grams instead. I followed your procedure and it works fine but I didn't measure the amount of lube I used. I put a thin coating on all stationary surfaces of the heater bar. Also, I found that I don't get complete fusing unless I change the paper specification on the printer setup. I have to use a heavier paper setting. Anyway, the video is very useful.
