    This night, at TGT, was one I will remember with nostalgia for the rest of my life. Sense isn’t one of my favorite, but when it started I felt it in my bones.

      Me and my hubby was there, too. I felt like the whole venue was shaking, the power was overwhelming. Then when I watched the Yokohama Arena live stream, their performance was at the next level. I was literally crying.

    You can see why Band Maid are asked to write so many Anime themes. They are instantly memorable and my understanding is Miku reads or looks at the anime and studies the story to write the lyrics so they are not generic but are personal to the anime........One of my favourite Maid songs is an older one called Rinne (reincarnation). As an old Black Sabbath fan it always gave me those sort of vibes. If you haven't reacted to it then have a look and see what you think? Entertaining and informative as always thanks for the reaction.

    Don't forget to preorder the new album. Best rock band on the planet. Saiki does go a little flat once in a while but nothing especially detracting. She's lucky she can sing at all after her throat surgery so we're all just lucky to be able to listen to her.

    I think they actually have been holding back on the post-production on their last couple of live sets/blu-rays compared to the earlier stuff which was very post-produced (and a lot of fans still find the early ones sounding the best because of it). I am sure this has still been mixed in post, but they seem to leave more tiny mistakes in nowadays and seemingly don't do a lot of touchups any more. I personally prefer this because to me the tiny mistakes give music soul, but I can see the pros and cons for both styles of post-production on live music.

    Kanami thinks and composes only for the band. Nothing could be more true. All music and arrangements are by Band-Maid. A genius who fades behind the collective. Do you know many composers with this altruistic and generous spirit? Thanks Chris and Sam.

    If you like pop-punk you should check out their song "Beauty and the Beast". It is a rare song with Miku singing lead and Saiki singing backup, it also has a metal breakdown that is quite heavy. Unfortunately their isn't an official music video, but here is the official audio:

    It’s actually rare for Saiki-san to be pitchy. She’s normally on key majority of the time. As I understand it, she also wasn’t feeling all that well on this evening.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nah, she is human just like everyone else. It's just how it is when you perform live, especially on vocals. All bands/vocalists/performances that don't have any of this on their live music have been cleaned up in post (just like Band-Maids early DVDs and Blu-rays were). There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I personally prefer this rawer sound myself.

    • @TlanImass
      @TlanImass 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MaartenT seen them live 3x. Every set almost perfect vocals.

    • @MaartenT
      @MaartenT 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@TlanImass I believe you, I think she is a very good vocalist and one of my favourites, but she isn't perfect and I guarantee you she will admit to this herself. To be fair, I didn't notice it as much on this particular track even though I tend to be very sensitive to that type of stuff.
      The best test to me is a livestreamed set (a real live setting can be a bit too loud and the sound depends on where you are in the room) and I have watched a LOT of those over the last couple of years (I am well over 100, I might be getting close to 200). Some of them had very poor soundquality, but you can generally hear how well a vocalist sings and I can tell you right now, even with those tiny mistakes in this particular track, most vocalists have way more of them during a set than Saiki did in this set. What I have also noticed is that vocalists tend to struggle the most in the beginning of a set (the first couple of tracks) and at the end if it's a long set.
      So absolutely no slight against her, she is an amazing vocalist who tends to be pretty clean but saying she is virtually never off-key is somewhat of a reach. But it's possible I read your post stonger than you were meaning it to be.

    • @lurkmerchant
      @lurkmerchant 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      She was powerful and so much emotion and energy was coming through her voice, which was overwhelming to the first-timer like me and husband that night. I was aware that she was not perfect but it almost gave that raw, strong rocknroll energy to the show, like she didn't care too much about being perfect but let loose? I loved it.
      She's been consistently incredible since Yokohama Arena show though. Definitely performing at the next level now compare to the TGT show

  • @kicorse
    @kicorse 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    I agree with both aspects of your comment on the vocals. There are a few sour notes and that's a good thing. The vast majority of commercially successful bands (including Band-Maid pre-pandemic) would have corrected them all. I don't strongly object to that (there's so much pressure to do so, and it also sounds better if it's subtle enough) but I do have a lot of respect for bands who choose to keep imperfections in. A bigger issue is that the mix isn't great and it makes Saiki sounds trebly when the richness of her voice is one of her big strengths. For all that, it's still a fantastic performance of a fantastic song that I have listened to many times.

    Great reaction and totally agree about the vocals, I much prefer to hear the live vocals that are real and not "fake" (corrected). Real always sounds better, corrected (if using a too heavy hand) sound ":off". The first part of this show, Saiki was struggling a bit (heard that she might have been sick) but she eventually found her voice and finished out in style. Also, this was their biggest show ever (8K audience) and may have caused some tension. Thanks for the reaction.

    • @throwaway9389
      @throwaway9389 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, she seemed to be pushing it a bit early on, perhaps nerves and to get the audience going. Apparently, the audience had some ambiguous guidance on whether or not they could chant and sing along, a necessity for a Band Maid concert. So they were pretty muted. I was just listening to the TGT Blue Ray a couple days ago and realized it has the same issue as the Line Cube Shibuya concert, where they used mics in the audience for the sound source. So ya, zero for two on that idea. The mix on the TGT BR also buries Misa including on her extended intro to ISSR, which is a bizarre engineering choice. At TGT the band definitely got their feet under them by the second half. In Band Maid's November 10-Year Anniversary show and their March 10-Year Spin-Off, Saiki was spot on. Absolutely amazing. Cheers.

    They're ladies, so Brava, not Bravo. Is that a Laser Curtain? First they said they're not playing their own instruments. So then they did Line Cube Shibuya with a lot of room, mics instead of direct-from-the-board sound. Oh no, the mix it too ambient. Then someone said their pitch corrected. What next? It's too raw? I don't know what people want.

    Watch the OMV. SAIKI’s voice was off for the first part this show. I suspected it might be related to the stress of playing their largest one-man to date.

    Saiki had problems at the start, possibly with her in ears and did not sound at her best. This was half way through the concert and she was still off a bit. She did sound better in the second half but all in all it was just one of those rare days when Saiki was not on top form for the whole show. Since then all the live stuff I've heard, Saiki has been not only at her best but getting better every time.

    • @lurkmerchant

      It was my first live Band-Maid experience and I was overwhelmed by how powerful and emotive Saiki's vocal was. Her imperfections almost made the show for me though.
      Of course now that I've watched a few live streams and seen her performing at next level every time, I'm more aware that she wasn't at her best that night, but still...what an experience it was.

    hi guys, great reaction! I watched Band-Maid videos after seeing "Thrill" official MV in 2016 for 6 years but in 2022 when they toured the U.S. there were lots of great fan-cams and I went from a casual fan to totally obsessed with their live performances...any fan of theirs should watch the fan cams from Chicago House of Blues in 2022....if you have any doubt they sound awesome without post production. my other favorites to watch live are Gaharic Spin (have you reacted to them live? they are dropping lives from this years tour now on their channel !) and a band from the 1980s/90s called Princess Princess...the most successful of Japanese girl bands -- still influential and looked up to by todays musicians--they are awesome live...a link to those interested...th-cam.com/video/0djqx9Ns1UA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BJyeNwxGXKZcGbz7

    To my ears, Saiki's vocals are not so off pitch but they are definitely hindered by the vocal mix being eq'd with the highs turned way up and the lows being eq'd way down. The result is that her voice sounds really thin and doesn't have the punch that it usually does.
