- Alexandra of Denmark (Alexandra Caroline Marie Charlotte Louise Julia; 1 December 1844 - 20 November 1925) was Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Empress of India from 1901 to 1910 as the wife of King-Emperor Edward VII. Alexandra's family had been relatively obscure until 1852, when her father, Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, was chosen with the consent of the major European powers to succeed his second cousin Frederick VII as king of Denmark.
At the age of sixteen Alexandra was chosen as the future wife of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, the heir apparent of Queen Victoria. The couple married eighteen months later in 1863, the year in which her father became king of Denmark as Christian IX and her brother was appointed king of Greece as George I. She was Princess of Wales from 1863 to 1901, the longest anyone has ever held that title, and became generally popular; her style of dress and bearing were copied by fashion-conscious women. Largely excluded from wielding any political power, she unsuccessfully attempted to sway the opinion of British ministers and her husband's family to favour Greek and Danish interests. Her public duties were restricted to uncontroversial involvement in charitable work. On the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, Albert Edward became king-emperor as Edward VII, with Alexandra as queen-empress. She held the status until Edward's death in 1910.

Hands down the most naturally beautiful royal ever and didn’t really show any sign of age until very late in life. It’s a pity all her children inherited their fathers bulging poppy eyes rather than her exquisite face. She was also a hands on parent who regularly bathed and fed her children as well as tuck them up at night (almost unheard of in Victorian Aristocratic circles).
@@normacotter3377 - Hard to say who is the prettier, but Alexandra's descendants -mostly - have the same large, blue eyes (George V, George VI, Queen Elizabeth II). She was so accepting of her dynastic marriage and gave a blind eye to her husband's notorious behaviours. Deafness, from the age of around 30 increasingly plagued her life. I wonder if this trait has come down through the Royal Family generations? She was a kind soul.

They are both daughters of the Danish King Christian IX. Prince Phillips' Grandmother's Sister - a Daughter of Queen Victoria's second Daughter Princess Alice also married Czar Nicholas II. Prince Phillip's DNA was used to identify the remains of the Russian Czar Nicholas II and his family.
And Prince Philips grandfather King George I of Greece was formerly Prince William of Denmark brother to Alexandra and Dagmar
Dagmar married Alexander III who was the grandson of Nicholas I.

Philip's DNA was only used to identify the Czarina's remains and those of her children because they all had the same mitochondrial DNA from Queen Victoria, which passes only through the female line. Not sure how they identified Nicholas's remains.

The only real lasting pain of her life was the loss of her eldest son in 1892 and her sister’s entire family in 1918
