  • The Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming do not receive the attention of other ranges, like the Tetons, but they are still spectacular. We recently took a trip through the Bighorns to Cody, Wyoming to meet friends, but spent a week camping near Cody and in the Bighorns. This video covers that week-long trip with plenty of views of the scenery. In my next video, I will cover the day we went flying around Cody with friends.
    Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy this video.

    Great video! I am lucky enough to work in the Bighorns every summer.

      I absolutely love the Bighorn Mountains! They are among my favorite places anywhere. That would be quite an experience spending the summer there every year :)

      Thank you! It really is some incredible scenery. I was surprised how long it ended up being, but I didn't even use all of the footage and didn't want to split it into two videos.

      I like the relaxed camera style you are using, it suits the landscape. The length kind of suited it too.

    That would be my best video Ive seen you put out so far Robert. What beautiful colors and scenery. A great combination of animals and colors. I must unsubscribe to some channels to save my data for you and Debra.
    Everythings great at the Slabs. Got a washer, outside shower, 12 volt tv and now set up.
    I do think a drone would be good for you to ✔ out some of these roads. Im getting one just incase I lose my dog or one of my Bengals here.
    I had 26 teeth pulled in MX the day after arriving. Last week. Havent gone out as pretty bruised and swollen. Love Solar Mike.
    Wish you happiness and safety. And thanks so much for your videos. Dala

      @RobertWitham  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you are getting set up pretty well at the Slabs. I passed through there a couple of years ago when I was brand new on the road. Have to visit again now that I am more seasoned. LOL
      I have a drone on my list now after having a chance to borrow one from a friend for a while. Took me a while to become proficient with it, but eventually managed to shoot pretty smooth footage.
      Hoping your transition goes smoothly!

    I'm so happy that you went to the Medicine Wheel and got the footage that you did! I've been there in June about 15 years ago. I remember snow as we trekked up that road to the Wheel.At that time there was a tall metal fence around it. I tied a hankie to the fence, and wondered for many years how long it would remain there.Sorry, but I had to fast forward through the first few minutes of your intro. I remember all to well the drive up the mountain. A cliff on one side of the road and the wall of a mountain on the other, and not one bit of room to turn around if you had to. Having a fear of heights, this was excruciating torture for me.But I also remember seeing tiny white flowers growing out of the rock of that mountain wall.

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mother would totally understand your response to the mountain grades! LOL She still has not recovered from some of those mountain passes. We even bought her an "I survived..." patch in a little shop somewhere.
      The fence has been wood and rope for at least two years now. I think that probably fits better aesthetically, though I never saw the metal one so I may be wrong. It is definitely high elevation. I told Debra that we definitely had to go there though when she came up to Wyoming this summer. I knew she would just love it.

    Your adventure confirms that my biggest fear is not without warrant... one lane, dead end, no turnaround. And you guys were on a steep road? in gravel? with a drop off? No thanks. lol. Beautiful scenery!

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That road was crazy! We were both just saying how glad we were to not be hauling a trailer. We felt like we did reasonable due diligence in researching it in advance, and then there was no warning as to how bad the road was - until the road just suddenly deteriorated to the point that is was not passable. This was probably one of the worst primitive road experiences (if not the worst) that I have encountered. I have had to back out of plenty, but never one that was so risky.

    Love your Wyoming stories. You show "how it is", with the great scenery, sketchy roads, and wildlife. Raised a family and lived 25 of my best years in Wyoming. I get back there when I can now.

      Thank you! I try to provide an honest balance in my videos. I have been traveling through Wyoming for about 18 years now, but only more or less living here for two years. Of course, I have spent half that time in Arizona area too. LOL Still, lots of great country to explore here during the summer.

  • @freedomdove
    @freedomdove 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Gorgeous country. I would like to visit but it will have to be at the height of the summer or in early autumn, even though it is the warmest. I definitely wouldn't want to be there in winter. Lol.

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do enjoy that area during summer, though it can be quite hot in the valleys. The mountains are really nice during summer though. I usually leave in the fall and return in late spring/early summer except for Christmas and occasions like a granddaughter's birth.

    One of your best videos yet!!!! Exciting, informative, and beautiful! I love your passion for nature. As for the bad road, I've backed my trailer down several mistakes. 😉 It happens, can't worry about it too much or you never see anything. Anyway, THANKS for thaking us along. 😊 --Mark

      Thank you! I hear you about the trailers. I have had a few that I had to back out of because I was exploring, LOL I'm sure I would have made it down eventually, but it would have taken me a bit longer. I wasn't too concerned about backing down until it kept sliding. That was good for some adrenaline :)

    Really great video. The scenery was beautiful. It would be very disheartening to have people invade your campsite every little while. Glad that you both got out of the city to regroup and relax. It can't be easy to be tied to the city while waiting for the medical situation to be taken care of. Hopefully it will get resolved very soon. Sorry that you did not get to see a herd of wild horses. Maybe next time. Thanks for sharing and stay safe. Happy trails. Love Joyce

    Sometimes mountain slides happen. I'm glad you and Debra are safe. Some of our family live near Cody, and we visit nearly every year. I love Cody, but housing is extremely high there. I've eaten at that steakhouse, and have visited those places. Their 4th of July parade is really fun. I love the museum. Did you ever play their miniature golf? Also fun. Happy trails.

      That is cool that you visit there. I have been through a few times, but this is the first time I spent any time there. We wanted to visit some museums and play the mini golf, but we just ran out of time. Have to plan those events for our next trip over!

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The main road into Medicine Wheel is good gravel from the pavement to the parking area so any vehicle should be just fine. The walk from the parking area to the site is also a good gravel road so pretty easy access all around. I definitely recommend stopping if you are in the area!

    what are switch backs?

    • @RobertWitham
      @RobertWitham  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are the crazy hairpin-like turns that they frequently build into steep mountain roads. I think the term derives from the way the road switches direction and doubles back. If you see it from the air or a distance it looks like a series of "Zs" up the side of a mountain or steep grade.
