OUTSTANDING explanation Silky!!!! I have struggled with trim for a while and generally compensate by putting more input to the joystick and manage it by hand. Thank you for this simple and concise discussion
The 500E is proving quite the step up from the free helis in MSFS. The lateral trim is a new concept for me, so will be trying that. Also, what is that meat thermometer stuck in the front window?
Good work, going to configure my Bell 47 exactly how you described it :) Wish me luck ! I've been flying without trim, end up getting a sore wrist after a while :)
Is the Cyclic needing any in cockpit adjustment on the actual trim tabs besides the mapping binderings? What are your joystick senitivities tho? One more thing, what is this location, its gorgeous
Thanks, very useful tip, specially for the MD500 with its non-hydraulic commands. The real one needs its electrical trim system to assist when flying. Most common helos do not have rotor trim, but of course the pilot uses the leverage of the cyclic stick. For those who are digging the incredible world of helicopter flying, I highly recommend to invest on a proper helicopter control set for sims like the Puma X. Amazing.
Where is the cyclic and rudder pedal pop-up from, Im hoping that someone makes a script for Flow to show where the trim is and then you can save profiles for different heli's and always know where to put your trim!
Thanks for this, it is a big help. I have Thrustmaster HOTAS as well and getting it set up in FS2020 is a bit more difficult than the XP11 controls set up. I still haven't gotten the left throttle recognized. How do you do that? The Hueys and Cobras I worked on in Vietnam had a "beep" switch on the throttle. It controlled the engine output shaft speed between 6000 and 6600 RPM. 6600 was used for take off and landing. I would like to set up the left throttle as the throttle and the right throttle as the collective, with the red rocker switch on the right throttle control as the beep switch.
Glad it helped! Unfortunately, there is a known issue where the throttle of most helicopters in MSFS is unable to be bound. You can still actuate it with your mouse but obviously that's not practical. Supposedly SU12 was meant to help fix this but I have not yet been able to bind it to work as intended. Perhaps the individual helicopters need an update themselves.
From my understanding this is the trim like it works in MSFS but as far as I understood (at least due to DCS) a real helicopter has a force trim that keeps the stick in its position (I.e. in forward cruise you do not have to push the stick forward all the time. The force trim keeps it there). And from there you might have additional trimming like this. But from my understanding MS needs to add the force trim so that heli flying gets way more realistic. Right?
It varies from helo to helo. Certainly helicopters with more complex systems may utilize force trim. But, more basic, such as trainers, don't use such a complex trim system.
Great value, basic explanations told in simple understandable language, thanks

Brilliant, I was going to give up flying helicopters till I saw this video, thanks a lot.
That's awesome! Glad I could help keep someone in a whirly bird!
You just gained a new sub my dude! Great vid

I would love to get my hands on some more accurate controls. I love what I have now but they weren't designed for helos.
@@silkystol Ever since I got my Virpil gear, its just been a game changer!
What is the name of the console that indicates the current trim status? I'm talking about the msfs add-on, could you provide some links?

Any suggestion for best joystick setup? I have a Logitech pro and a thrust master one for xbox
This also helped with controller as well,so thanks a lot,now flying helicopters is more fun than ever
Glad it helped!
