@@themandotorianpartyofameri8738 actually, it's good to make people memorize the times tables. It may sound silly, but it's the same as forcing people to memorize vocabulary words when learning a foreign language or the ABC's. You need some degree of fluency to actually use knowledge in an efficient manner. Imagine nobody had ever forced you to really memorize the ABC's. You'd not be able to read. Same with the times tables. I gave remedial math for a while and people asked me to help their kids because they had "so much trouble with equations" or something. In 90% of the cases the underlying problem was that the kid didn't know the times tables by heart. Now, if you have to spend a lot of your brain power to figure out every little multiplication and division, that just takes away from your ability to concentrate on the rest. And it takes too much time to finish the test on time, so you fail. Also, it makes every homework feel like a terrible chore. Like, imagine your homework is to read a 5 page story in a book but you have to think really hard to recognize every letter. That sounds terrible, right? While all the other kids would already be discussing the story they just read. I think the idea that "forcing kids to memorize stuff == bad" isn't such a good idea if taken too far. I know this video is old, but for anyone reading this who still struggles with that stuff (like myself), here are a few tips: 1. Multiplying by nine, up to 20, excluding 0 and 11, the digits will always add up to 9. Plus, it's a little bit lower than its multiple of ten. Example: 9 x 3. 10 x 3 is 30, so it's a little less than 30, which means the first digit is 2. 2 + 7 = 9. The answer is 27. 2. Multiplying anything by 10 will always be the same number with a 0 at the end. 3. Multiplying anything by 11 will always be that number times 10 + that original number. (9 x 11 = 9 x 10 + 9.) Also, up until 10, it's also always that number and that number. ( 9 x 11 = 99, or 6 x 11 is 66.) 4. There's another way to do that multiplication thingy that I didn't know about for a long time!! You know that old way, 11 x 2 _________ 22 right? But you can also separate the two columns so you don't have to do any carrying, like so: 11 x 2 _________ 2 + 20 _________ 22 Might be common knowledge, but I still use that technique. Yes, multiplication tables are only memorization. You learn them with spaced repetition. If you don't struggle with algebra but do with arithmetics, a daily, short session of simple calculations should fix that pretty quickly.
I find it really comforting when my favorite animation youtuber shares a common struggle of mine. Multiplication is hard. Like, I can think up worlds and understand concepts far beyond what my peers can grasp, but 4x8 with no calculator or paper in a stressful situation? No.
omg I found my soulmate I literally didn't know how to read a clock until i was in high school and I still don't get how people just have a one second look and instantly know the time?
That is me! I am excellent at math, then I realized I am RARE, because most people struggle with it. I was incredibly confused when I realized this. I recently started doing 7-digit math problems and got most of addition, subtraction, and division right, with multiplication ALMOST right.
I had a talent for maths in school, but I have OCD, ADHD, and mild Tourette's, so concentrating on sets of ~30 problems (and having to document every step of the work) took several hours of my daily homework time.
in my school we have this weekly thing, where you gotta' go and like write numbers from 1 to 20, then the teacher says something from the times table, seems easy right? it's not, she says that way too quickly and only gives people like 5 seconds to put the result in, im slow i can't do that! but everyone else can apparently do that so easily, like how?
Oh hey, you changed your intro, and your style a bit, it looks just as nice! I really like the sort of "derpy and cute" style you've given your Fursona(?)!

I honestly like maths and most people find it weird. Idk I guess I'm kinda good at it and it basically describes everything in our natural world. Also I like how here's just one answer to every question.
in 3rd grade my teacher asked us "what do you call a clock with hands?" me not knowing awnserd "a twelve hour clock"......she used it for the rest of the year....
It looks like 70% of the population of the world don't like math, but I personally find it a quite interesting subject. Seriously I like math but I don't love it, sometimes is boring. My school teachers used to explain it very well, despite my pfp I had like an A- in everything I dunno Im from spain I just know I had 8/10 and 9/10 (even sometimes 10/10)
I feel your pain as far as clocks go. It wasn't until the fifth grade that I FINALLY figured out how to read one. Up until that time...I could only read digital times. which...in all honesty, is what folks write down to begin with!

Some Kek probably the 2 hands, it took me like three years to get that the longer one wasn’t the hour hand, because my thought process was an hour was longer so it should have the longer hand, but that’s just my experience, it might also do with not being able to see the minutes. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk
I cant read analog clocks and I’m 13, I couldn’t even read electronic clocks until recently (and I still can’t fully do that)
qwq also I’ve failed math too many times
@@simplyramble9660 Maybe you should ask for help, I'm sure someone would help you!
@@anjaliguitaristpenguin9578 I’m sure someone would, but the whole asking someone for help thing is just hard for me
But recently I got lucky, my cousin found out about it 😅

Just math. Unless we make a joke, like, I HATES DA MATHS!!! or something like that.

What i seem to notice:
You have artistic skills = you suck at math
You have amazing math skills = you suck at art
If your inhuman, your good at both.
TheOdd1sOut is a robot everyone, its okay to admit it.
Im good at art and math...wait, why am I floating?... Oh shit! Im omnipotent now...
Ture...
I’m inhuman then.
Makes sense
Same with English class, either you’re good at that and suck at math and vice versa
Uhm, well. Not that I want to show off or anything, but my maths is the best of all my subjects, and I think my art isn't that terrible too. So, I'm inhuman?
Also sorry for my late response, I'm watching some of Chip's videos an djust saw this comment.
when I was a kid I didn’t understand the clock with the numbers and understood the analog one. for some reason

I never know how to read boath when i do i dont know the other ._.
Hm. Good on you!
My science teacher had an analog clock that instead of showing numbers showed equations so you would have to solve the question to know the time. google “equation analog clock” to see what I’m talking about.
ArcticDuck that was in my grade 2 class. Then the teacher got an analog clock that was normal. Then a digital clock on his desk
Why does such torturing thing exist
dear lord, i cant imagine the torture...
Yes, multiplication tables are only memorization. You learn them with spaced repetition.
If you don't struggle with algebra but do with arithmetics, a daily, short session of simple calculations should fix that pretty quickly.
Nice! I like the new intro!

RoboFox Same. Geometry was a lot harder for me than Algebra. Algebra 1 and 2 were really easy for me
I find it really comforting when my favorite animation youtuber shares a common struggle of mine.

Woah people at your high school can read a clock O.o

The most infuriating part of math is that if you're good at it then you can't understand why people don't understand it
yes
Mathematics is purely logic, no imagination (atleast in school). How can someone struggle at logic?
That is me!
I am excellent at math, then I realized I am RARE, because most people struggle with it. I was incredibly confused when I realized this. I recently started doing 7-digit math problems and got most of addition, subtraction, and division right, with multiplication ALMOST right.
I can't do anything without a calculator. I'm quite disappointing. I feel ya. Doing math without the magic mathmachine is ridiculously hard for me.
same oof xd
*I’m not going to say anything*
In my mind: i’m always bored in class bc everything is too easy
Your hands are math machines.... even if we only have ten fingers
I had a talent for maths in school, but I have OCD, ADHD, and mild Tourette's, so concentrating on sets of ~30 problems (and having to document every step of the work) took several hours of my daily homework time.
Trust me, you’re not alone...
It would amaze me as well how fast they shouted out the tables
in my school we have this weekly thing, where you gotta' go and like write numbers from 1 to 20, then the teacher says something from the times table, seems easy right? it's not, she says that way too quickly and only gives people like 5 seconds to put the result in, im slow i can't do that! but everyone else can apparently do that so easily, like how?

I too hated mathematics class.
Also non-calculator was the worst.
I'm really good at math but ONLY if I have a calculator on hand... mostly because I'm pretty good at turning instructions from the lecture into button presses on the calculator and the calculator does the rest of the work and spits out my answer.

despite my pfp I had like an A- in everything I dunno Im from spain I just know I had 8/10 and 9/10 (even sometimes 10/10)
I feel your pain as far as clocks go. It wasn't until the fifth grade that I FINALLY figured out how to read one. Up until that time...I could only read digital times. which...in all honesty, is what folks write down to begin with!
