Good evening Jay ! I've just subscribed! After years learning English in school, no one else has explained to me the Schwa sound and I've just found out your videos !!!!!! Thank, thank you so much!! Now, I realised that I've been using it without knowing that it was "the terrible" Schwa sound ! 😂😂
Hi there, Astrid! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video :-) I've to take a short break from making videos due to work, but I'll make more soon! Good luck with that horrible schwa sound haha ;-)
Thanks for your helpful videos are really very precious videos. If you please I have a question about schwa sound is there some rule to schwa sound or just we must memorize the schwa words
Basically the schwa sound is usually found in words with two syllables or more, so one (or more) would be schwa and the other(s) would be stressed. Here's the first schwa video I made (please excuse the poor audio!) with more info... th-cam.com/video/MhK0udN3nzI/w-d-xo.html
Hi Ahsana Idris, in that example the word 'or' is not weak, in fact it has stress as I'm emphasising that the person has a choice. The word 'or' does have a weak form, for example: "Black or blue", here the word is weak and spoken quickly with little or no schwa sound. Hope this helps!
Hi, I like your teaching method .I can read a sentence slowly, but it's very tough to speak quickly. So I'm record my voice on my mobile again and again ..I can see the bit improvement. Only one sentence I tried. Was , the. .. Rhymes are so important. Thank you.
Hi +Chandrica Joseph, thanks for your comment! Here's a tip: don't try to speak quickly - some of the best English speakers I know speak slowly and carefully. Instead, focus on reducing some words into weak forms, for example, ARE /ɑːr/ changes to just the schwa sound /ə/ and THE is also spoken without stress like /ðə/. That will make your sentences seem more natural. Keep up the good work!
Hi +A escala thanks for your input. Yes I haven't made a video in over 2 years because of work and life etc! But I've started making them again, I am to upload a new one every week :) Stay tuned!

Why you don't upload new videos anymore ?
As a full time teacher AND student, I just don't have the time any more :(

In the example, "are u going or would u like 2 stay" does not transcribe "or" with a shwa. So, my ques is whether "or" is a weak form or not?
