- Ahhhhh... BEHOLD... the GRADIENT MESH TOOL! This is one of those tools that I didn't even know existed until recently. Well, I mean, I knew it was there but no idea why or how to use it. Wow, was I surprised. Not only is it SUPER easy to use but this tool takes your illustration from a flat and boring banana to HOLY GUACAMOLE that looks like a real banana in, literally, less than 5 minutes. Give it a whirl and show me your results! #adobeillustrator #adobeillustratortutorial #gradientmeshtool

Hey, instead of having to write down colors when making the gradient, you can use the eyedropper tool and SHIFT CLICK to select just that color for that segment of the gradient
or you can copy color Code
yes yes yes
Indeed you can but somehow I cant.. I dont know whats wrong with my illustrator
I prefer to save the colors in swatches temporarily
or you can done the color part by using swatch panel. it would be definitely easy than urrs.. you are the best i just loved your voice tone :)
U r the first one in youtube who's tutorial is audible. Others I just can't hear what they're saying, u r more clear and thank you so much, I mean it.
For the spots I find it easier to use an elipse and eye drop the spots from the reference as a solid fill, set the transparency to Multiply and then add a Guasian Blur effect. Then you can just play around with the Blur amount and the transparency percentage as you get to the smaller dots.
Thanks Erin, very easy to understand, FYI - by the way you can use eye dropper to assign color to gradient that easier than key-in number. (click "I" for eye dropper, press "Shift" then click on the small square of gradient color you want to change, then use eye dropper to suck up the color from another object)
Love your communication skill and tone. Not something very common with most tutorial videos i can find online
Thank you, Lawal!
I like this tutorial and I found similar tutorial which is very interesting with gradient mesh tool th-cam.com/video/-_laPUk_vMM/w-d-xo.html
You can use the swatches to drag and drop colors into the gradients.
If you have it enabled, you can copy each attribute then do Windows + V to open your clipboard and select what you want to past. It's super helpful for me, and it even works on images
A ton of Appreciation, for how nicely you have taught me to use this tool. Thanks a lot!
The perfect voice tone built for teaching.
I looked up this tutorial because I forgot how to use the mesh tool, but now I remember that it helps making one mesh cut down the middle vertically, then shape it until it looks like the 3D shape of the banana, then continue with the horizontal and shape it, and then continue the rest of the mesh cuts. That should make the anchor points follow the curve better. Thank you for the tutorial!
you can also make one brown spot as a sample and make from it a brush then just draw with it. It's a lot more easier
First tutorial that didn't give me anxiety while watching. Was easy to follow along.
Loved it. 👍🏻🙂

Erin, thank you for this tutorial. The info you provided helps me understand the mesh tool a lot better than the class I took a month ago. I have learned that there are many ways to use all the tools in Illustrator. Everyone has their own way of doing things.🐶
Thanks for sharing that Chris!! And you are absolutely correct, everybody has their own way 👍
Damn! Worked like a charm! Thank you soooo much!

amazinggggg! Your tutorial was so clear on what to do. Thanks!! Needed help with this for my project.
I have been wanting to learn how to use the mesh tool for some time. This tutorial explains it so well. THANKS!
Good tutorial! As for for creating the brown gradient spot, after created the circle, 1 easier way is to select the pre-created brown, go to the color creation toolbox, drag the wanted color directly into the gradient tool box instead of typing in the percentage number one by one.
Yes! Great tip 👌
Thank you Erin!!!🥰👍👏👏👏👌
Great video for beginners. You told everything patiently. Thank you for making the video.

Very good video.
Is there an easier way to select the anchor points? I would love a lasso-tool way of grabbing the anchor points instead of clicking each one separately
Yup. Lasso selector tool does the trick.
Thank you!
Hello, there is no mesh tool in the ai application I downloaded. What should I do? Pleasee i really need it right now
you can use the laso tool to selesct all the points in one time insted of doing it one by one

I would have saved the dots as a symbol and use the spray can haha :)
Good idea, Kat! I guess I figured this was probably the only banana I'd ever be drawing in my life so I wasn't worried about time saving efforts... LOL
HOw do toy do that?
i was thinking the same thing the entire time. anticipating those words coming from her mouth. its another alternative depending on the level of detail you want. :)
great video nonetheless Erin
thanks for this ill use it
Spray yea lol easier
Super helpful!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much and i love you
Thanks for the tut! I just finished an illustrator course but never understood how to make this work. !
Oh cool, glad I could help!
awesome tutorial but do you know how to get the "net lines"red? because my net lines are the same colour as the object so really hard to see if I selected them
I think it has to do with your layer color, mine were blue.
very good. thanks
wow.. thanks for sharing..
How about using scatter brush instead to create those spots on the banana ?
Scatter brush ????
Great video... I would have gone with a scatter brush for the spots.

Not sure why it put the wrong color when I selected the correct dots and put the expected color there. Didn’t really work for me
Thanks for the tutorial Erin, I have tried making Banana, but mesh tool really messing up anchor points not giving a proper curve.

detailed teaching
that's amazing wow ; thank youu so much
You're very welcome!
thank you erin!!
Yummy totorial. Do you prefer always working in CMYK? Because the "numbers" are more intuitive to you? (Than RGB or HSB numbers)
CMYK is the print ink color palette. So if your work will be ultimately printed, using CMYK colors on screen will translate directly to offset and digital print media. In other words, if you hire out your printing, they know what colors you want the work to be as long as you use CMYK.
The tutorial was a lot helpful. Thank you🙂
Thank you Jibrael!
