A man I work for has 3 of these, those curved windows on the pillars are so awesome!
I miss my old FJs. I met Earl Warden after he “retired” and moved to Montana. He helped me build my last one. More of a rock crawler/hunting rig than a super nice restoration but it was fantastic.
That's my dream vehicle! Absolutely love that thing!

My heart always loves cruisers...I love this machines badly
Bro i saw one here in India. Instead of the black removable cover, there was a body coloured canopy at the end. There was another row of seats and a lot of space behind the last row. There was a big fridge and a tiny sound free Honda diesel generator. Whenever the second battery wears out you can use the generator to charge it quickly along with using the electric stove through the generator while 2nd battery is charging. It also had india spec landcruiser engine with a 4500 cc diesel with 261 bhp. I guess the tuned the engine for extra horses and great sound.. It costed him around 30 thousand US dollars.
I've seen pictures, and wondered why we never saw very many, when the FJ40's were sooooo popular.
I remember Jay showing me the tan model in the showroom while my 40 was getting worked on. Fell in love right then and there. The kids were in playpens in the corner. Great memories.

You and your company are to be complimented : the talent pool is deep and rich. I've wanted an FJ45 ever since I saw one. Could I afford the one that I want/like ? Not with 3 daughters in the U.C. system. The money flow is amazing ! But the young ladies are very aware of their blessings and are working very hard to demonstrate this. It's their turn to shine ; my turn to appreciate 45's from afar.

What a beauty of a truck. I have the FJ40 and I would like to put it that way even though mine is very original and worthy of a restoration. but I would love to transform it. It would be my happiness to work in the construction of vehicles of that style.

It's really good to hear you know about our Toyota Bandeirante. This truck is a trail beast down here in Brazil, people doing all sorts of mods to get it as updated as possible, but still hugely trail capable. I just love it and that's why I got to know about Icon.

We had crew cab fj's in australia in the 70's. They were used by the PMG to run phone lines in the bush. I've also seen some that were used by the volunteer bush fire brigades of that era too.

Those 70s are flimsy by comparison. These old FJ45 had the heavy duty Dyna gearbox and a heavy duty front diff, not Hilux running gear of the 70.

The story about you going whole hog and starting your company has given me the drive to move into a tiny home with my wife and baby. I basically learned from you that I shouldn't hang around waiting for anyone else's approval to follow my dream. Was that an Audio Control EQX crossover and EQ beside those amps? I haven't seen one of those in years. As for the head unit, a six disc in dash head unit was amazing back in the day. Now some OEMs, such as Jeep, have a CD player as an extra fee item installed in the glove box. If I remember Nakamichi was a supplier for Toyota a few decades ago, perfect match for this build. I can only guess, are the amps are Pioneer? Old school throw back. I love it.
Don't let fail to mention the coolness of this "ghost truck". A true collector piece for the serious Toyota follower or for the individual who likes rare pieces. The fact that Jonathan Ward owned it just adds more gravy. Great job.

Brazilian here, what you did with the truck is super cool congrats. I have a 1988 bandeirante fj40, hard top, two doors the legend kkkk I think is to rough for a daily city car but I love it to death, the thing is basically a tank super badass. Its the poor man’s G wagen

Not of this particular kind. Only a few were made. They would have been the troop carrier version.
Just saw one of the four in the Land Cruiser museum in Salt Lake. It felt like seeing a celebrity at the airport. Very cool.

That's because The Toyota Design team in Newport Beach did. However Icon/ TLC do beautiful recreations and restoration jobs.
Can u used toyota Tacoma engine in fj with 5 speed and can u build 6x6 in toyota fj too
Called Bandeirante, built in Brazil. Came from the factory with a variety of Mercedes-Benz engines, especially the OM314 from Unimog (pron ooh neeh mogg)

Another awesome Cruiser! I've seen FJ40s and FJ55s, FJ60s, and FJ62s, but I've never seen an FJ45 crew cab pickup truck. Sweet! :)

Mr ward, you hinted on the fj cruiser and being involved in it's design...I've owned 2, they're great vehicles, but any idea what happened? Fj40 fans would hope that a remake would be closer to the original soldi axle design, similar to what Jeep is doing.
The fj cruiser is a durable, well performing rig..but many of us just didn't care for the look.
Was there anyone fighting for a more classic design? Or was something like a modern fj40 never on the table for them?
Hello Jonathan ... I really appreciate your work. I live in São Paulo / Capital, near São Bernardo do Campo and I hereby inform that here in Brazil this TOYOTA is called TOYOTA BANDEIRANTE and has used the Mercedes-Benz diesel engine for many years. Strong embrace here of the Capital of São Paulo.
I have a 1966 fj45 truck that I bought in 1972. I bought a brand new chev 327 still in the factory box for it and made the conversion years ago it has unreal power. One of the all time best four wheel drive vehicles ever!!! Made tough so you don't have to worry about taking it anywhere and I pretty much have!!! Seldom see any around anymore rare animal.

And even though I would watch them because I really enjoy your content and understand the work that goes into producing it, I respect your conscious decision to not have them, for obvious reasons. But let's get down to bras tacks here... is there an adapter available to couple one of your steering wheels to my 1991 Nissan Pathfinder? GM spline to NIssan spline doesn't seem to be a common thing, as far as I've found. Cheers from Chicago!

Ever think about doing one of your special FJ44’s in truck configuration with a separate bed? 🤔 This is my favorite form factor for these vehicles, they are so hard to find!
I almost bought one from Specter Off Road in Chatsworth back in 2001. Only difference was it had an aluminum tray on the back.

Another great example of the type of build (from your company) that ought to be re-captured and sold by toyota. A lot of builds today have too much bling which over-shadows function and outdoor capacity. The canvas topper on the back is not ideal for canadian weather extremes but it's a nice design.
I absolutely love and admire your work. Just one question: Why you don't use Toyota engines??

1:27 It's funny that Mr Toyota didn't understand the appeal of older cars. I used to work for a guy that sold antique radios/jukeboxes and vintage high end audio recording equipment and almost half the sales would go to Japan. Rich people in Japan have an obsessive love for pre 70's American technology. They love it and pay top dollar for it. They seem to love "old America" more than we do. A lot of our vintage clothing and art ends up in the hands of the rich Japanese. I don't think Mr Toyota was surprised, he just wanted intel.
