  • Dr. Lera talks about having a swollen neck with Grumpy, a four and a half year old bulldog. This was caused by an overproduction of saliva, resulting in a severe inflammation of the salivary glands.

    My dog had a lump appeared on February. Went from being so small to about 2 inches quickly. I took her to the vet and the stuck a needle to do an exam. Came back as a inflammatory issue. Has been on steroids for 4 weeks now and it has not resolved yet. I am so frustrated.

      Based on what your describing it's hard to say what it could be. Could be a growth, could a lymph node, could be accumulated saliva from a damaged salivary gland

    My puppy got this bump on the left side of her jaw it appeared overnight, after that next day it got smaller but now (6 days later it increased in size again, she eats no problem and drinks water. She isn’t in pain or anything but it’s just so scary, I can’t help but over think it. She is a English bulldog. Vets in my area are so overpriced and so many have bad reviews. My appointment is in a couple days. What can this be?

      Turned out to be a fox tail in my case, I think last owner let her run around in a wrong area. I didn’t even know that those can get stuck in dogs. I got her taken care of, went to a vet and within a few hours he pulled out the Barb 😢

    My dog was bit by something on the face and it swelled immediately so we took him to the vet and he injected with some antibiotics. Even though his swelling decreased he got a lump on side of his cheek that overnight came below to his neck due to which he wasn't able to sleep and his afraid that he might get hurt. Whenever he tries to put his neck down it he is having pain and is not even letting anyone touch it. since it wasnt firstly on his neck but on the side of his cheek I don't think it is salvatory damage so please help

      Did he diagnose her just by looking at the lump and not at least doing a needle aspirate? NO VET on the planet can diagnose/confirm cancer just by looking at it! If they tell you they can, they're a quack!

      This pup had a very aggressive form of lymphoma. We treated him with chemotherapy for a few months and he was overcome by his disease eventually. Those last few months we were able to provide quality of life for him and his family.

    Is there a special diet they need to be on if there's saliva gland gets clogged because my Bulldogs had it done twice now

    • @cassandraayre947
      @cassandraayre947 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What were the symptoms of a clogged Saliva glad? Also, how did they treat this? My EB went to the vet last week because he was randomly coughing …and they treated it as allergies. Today he woke up with a swollen eye and I noticed a lump in the back/side of his mouth. After researching I’m thinking it could be a blocked saliva gland? Obviously we will be calling and returning to the vet tomorrow but just trying to do my own research today.

      not from the neck itself but potentially the disease that is causing it.

      Need to take her to the vet and have them check it out. Most likely they'll start off with sticking a needle in it probably recommend doing some blood work and pending the results of those tests they'll go from there

    Hey my pit bull is only a year and some months. He developed some swelling and a lump under his neck and I believe his paws as well.
    His energy comes and goes, and can barely keep his eyes open at times. he rarely barks anymore. Sometimes saliva will just leak , he won’t eat unless I sneak soft food in his bowl and he’s losing weight.
    What’s going on ?? My bet wants 135 just for a check up , not even including diagnosis , if someone can let me know what’s going on I can buy my own medication online

  • @steveh7108
    @steveh7108 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It would be nice to know a little more of the symptoms to determine if it was a Salvatore gland or something more.
    My dog suddenly developed a big lump there but she does not seem to be in pain or bother her in any way. So I don't know if it's an emergency over this holiday weekend or whether it can wait.

    • @DrLera
      @DrLera  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your dog is having a swollen neck like that I don't know if it's a true emergency but it could potentially be an abscess swollen lymph nodes from lymphoma or a ruptured salivary gland. The only way you'll know is by having a needle stuck in and seeing if you can get something back to get an idea of what's going on
