    Great video! I went to Amsterdam for about 24 hours (had a long layover) when I was on my way to Vienna. I got to explore the city in that time by checking out Vondelpark, walking around downtown, and visiting the Anne Frank House. Although it was a short stay, it was beautiful!

    I have never been to Amsterdam. I lived in Germany for several years and took the train into the Netherlands a few times. One of my fondest memories is watching the cyclist with opened umbrellas. It still makes me chuckle.

      ila sky thank you!! I’m so glad you enjoyed it :) It took me a long time to edit 😳 But it was fun to pick out the music and the 4K shots were so pretty! Funny coincidence that I happened to be out on the boat in Amsterdam today, the same day the video was published. I haven’t been on the boat since October!

Is has the canals and bicycles, old and new architecture, surrounding countryside and a very lively and international feel due to the presence of many students from the university. Basically it is big city and small town feeling combined!

Oh and the food is delicious, try the Val Brie salad!

      You are so welcome! Glad you liked this video - it’s one of my favorites! I don’t know any US citizens who have been able to land in Amsterdam unless they have an EU passport. So I don’t think NL is open yet to Americans. But theoretically you could take a train if so. I’ll check up on that because maybe something changed there recently but since Holland is Schengen it’s under the same rules

    If we can get the kids and move there? I would tomorrow. The US has little I like. Amsterdam has all the Things! Curious about an American Teacher seeking work there? Mayne the International School? She teaches middle school. We went on our honeymoon in 2011. Absolutely was convinced it was where I would live if possible. I prefer biking and using transit. Love the walkable city, constant trains, old buildings, etc.

    Hi Kristin - Hoping you wouldn't mind pointing me the right direction here. Been to Amsterdam several times over the last decade and would love to live and work there. While I work a steady, well-paying job in finance here in the US, it's not with a company which has any international - much less any Dutch - presence. My understanding is that it is very difficult to move to the Netherlands and gain employment since Dutch companies must prove that there aren't any qualified Dutch (then qualified European) prospects for an open position.
    Are the Dutch a bit more welcoming to foreigners who go into business for themselves? Or perhaps I need to marry a Dutch woman? ha!
    To summarize, what would you say are the best ways to move to the Netherlands and stay beyond the 90 day visa period and actually get a decent job?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @TravelingwithKristin
      @TravelingwithKristin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi H, great question and sorry for the late response. There are quite a few ways to work in the Netherlands. One of the most popular ways is through the Dutch-US friendship treaty where you can start your own business. However, there are many companies that hire international employers.
      I would recommend finding a remote job in finance that allows you to work from anywhere, then apply for temporary residency in NL through the friendship treaty. Would your company let you work remotely from abroad?

      Amsterdam is very expensive. Even compared to other big cities in The Netherlands like Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam and Eindhoven. Smaller cities (like Alkmaar, Groningen, Den Bosch, Almere, Arnhem) are way cheaper. Villages are of course even cheaper to live in. And by train you can be in Amsterdam in no time from anywhere in the country.

    One thing you’ll notice right off about the Dutch is their effortless fluency in English as it’s compulsory at all levels of the Dutch secondary education system.
