I can't imagine how hard it must have been without a welder. They needed to make thousands and thousands of these. Being a smith back then must have been so hard :D
Listeroman especially since the helmets had to be resistant to swords, spears, clubs, and other stuff. any smith living back then must have been a very well respected person
Listeroman I don’t think they made separate pieces and put them together back then. I think it was just one piece of metal then they would shape them plus there were probably hundreds of Smith’s because it was a class you would be put in to by the king. It isn’t like now where you choose what you want to do.
Pens Fan this seems to be true when you look at artifacts of real helmets. They were always one piece of steel shaped around the head with cut outs only in the eye and nose to mouth area. It’s too bad they didn’t have the ability to weld though as this movie version is seriously bad ass.
@@klausbrinck2137 the layer of brass only needs to be a few hundred micrometer thick to block the color of the metal underneath. I found the same when I experimented with chemically copper plating steel or aluminium ( with a saturated solution of copper (II) sulfate)
Could you imagine what a Persian would have been thinking when charging at those Spartans wearing those helmets, and waiting for them to charge without so much as a flinch...?
I liked watching the metal fabrication, but you didn't discuss the installation of the crest. If you know of any crest crafters, please let me know. Thanks!
I would recommend using a wire wheel attachment on your dremmel to add the brass colour because it will take a lot less time as it rotates very quickly.
Hi Master. I need your help. But more than two words - a unwrapped rope . What is the rope? Cotton? Polystyrene? Plait? I tried several options, none of them work like yours. Sorry for my bad english.
wow great work, i thought brassing was only done with a pneumatic wire wheel (like the man at arms guys, thats the only other channel where ive seen that technique) i was wondering, how did you make the "hair" part of the mohawk?
super awesome build as always!! I admire your patience with that brass brush, i always go at it with a much bigger flame and a round wire brush on a grinder :-D
Awesome thank you any tips you might have to pass on would be great cause I'm trying to figure out the measurements right now I suck at math but I'm sure I can figure the measurements for each piece so I can outline and draw each piece on to construction paper so I can cut it out outline it on the sheet metal use the plasma cutter being careful not to distort the metal or gouge I want to take my time with it once I get that done use anvil hammer it out so I can form the curves bending it then I'm going to either use the wire feed welder or mig welder to tack weld each piece then grind the tack welds smooth then use polishing wheel to make it shiny then use a braising tip on the oxyacetylene hand torch to braise and plate it at end as far as the battle damage I'm going to use the grinder with a cutting wheel and unfortunately my instructors won't let me do a full scale so I have to scale it down smaller to maybe a 8x8 the size of a packet.
I'm curious what are the dimensions and measurements for the helmet you made cause I'm trying to make a Spartan Helmet similar to this as my final project in Welding.
been waiting for this vid for a while and it did not disappoint! great work! 2 questions, 1- what is the mohawk made of and how did you attach it and 2- do you have the templates to download or purchase? would love to try making one for some mi state spartan fans i know, thanks for the great build!
thank you I appreciate it. the Mohawk is made from unraveled rope which I glued to card stock to make "rows" of hair. then I glued them all together. I do not have the patterns sorry
It seemed that it has 90% looks like, but Leonidas helmet was really fit on his face.I see a little mess in the sides or the cheeks it has round side.Maybe it needs a little adjustment.300,helmets has a thin cheeks and well fitted.
Nice helmet! Did you use some kind of hairspray or did it stay like that on it's own? Also could you be more specific on what kind of rope it was? Thanks!
Ok this has got to be the most chaotic neutral diy channel ive ever seen on youtube. First of all, guy's intro is only seven seconds, no promo, no like and subscribe etc just hi lets make this thing. Then at 1:38 he welds without even wearing gloves? are you telling me you put on your stormtrooper helmet but did not think about protecting your hands the first time around? And then he just loses half of his tutorial but decides to post it anyways. Lol i love this dude
Let me get this straight. You blued the steel and scrubbedd it with a brass brush and it stays like that?? I’ve never heard/seen that but I’m taking notes 😂 brilliant work man, coming from a fellow fabricator who loves making shit like this.
Well..... I was wondering if and when you'd do this since the Corinthian helmet (I saw it in the background). Been anticipating this since you posted you only needed to add the hair. Cannot say how joyful I am to see another one of your videos. Keep up the good work from your friend, The Palmo
Yes. To all of this.
That brass plating was *chef's kiss*
I can't imagine how hard it must have been without a welder. They needed to make thousands and thousands of these. Being a smith back then must have been so hard :D

They were very very important people!

Defoe18 I’m pretty sure they used a plastic mould with aluminium plating.
I'd never heard of brass plating steel like that before. Learn something new every day! Very cool video!
thank you
And i still don´t get it... Does the brass come from the brush?
@@klausbrinck2137 yes the heat of the metal,it 'melts' down the brass which is laying all around the surface of the heated metal...

Brilliant, I’m making one out of loads of cutlery given to me. Love the hammer marks made in metal. Doing this as hobby .
So how did you make the mohawk?
Im impressed on your pattern AND cuts precision!!! Well done , the results are stunning
Some crazy tolerances you've got going on there. Really good with the material.
thank you I appreciate it
Yeah your pattern making skills are spot on. Your hands have sure taken a beating!
Nice clean fabrication , I learned a few tricks. Thank you.
I mainly came here to learn how to make the mohawk but you gave me some good detailing tips for my knight cosplay. Thanks!
I liked watching the metal fabrication, but you didn't discuss the installation of the crest. If you know of any crest crafters, please let me know. Thanks!
That is the most badass helmet!!!
thank you
Top
Vc vende ou faz pra vender armadura corporal
And if 300 is historically accurate to 0,00 on the helmets and stuff, you do a good job
Where Didi you buy the black haire for the cimier?
This looks fun as hell. Wish I had the tools
How many millimeters is the plate?
What did you use for the hair?????
Yomamas bush no doubt
It is unraveled rope!
I like the brass finish and how you did it.
thanks
Can u share ur design patern for each part ?
What material is used for the plume?
The crest? The mohawk? It is unraveled rope
What Hair did you used for the Mohawk?
Amazing work man, I love it. Great attention to detail. Could you provide template sizes for this please?
Where did you get the plume????
I would recommend using a wire wheel attachment on your dremmel to add the brass colour because it will take a lot less time as it rotates very quickly.
I would like to know where to get the templates ... thanks
Love the welding helmet. Too funny!
Hi Master. I need your help. But more than two words - a unwrapped rope . What is the rope? Cotton? Polystyrene? Plait? I tried several options, none of them work like yours. Sorry for my bad english.
What type of hair did you use? Horse? Id be interested to learn how to box that.
What a beauty 💗 you are truly talented.
Que valor tiene este magnífico trabajo ?
otimo, você vende esses helmos, entrega para o BRAZIL ?
Excelente, muy buen trabajo.
wow great work, i thought brassing was only done with a pneumatic wire wheel (like the man at arms guys, thats the only other channel where ive seen that technique) i was wondering, how did you make the "hair" part of the mohawk?
From what I read he used unraveled rope glued them to rows of card stock and then glued them together
Must be so satisfying.
looks sick af
super awesome build as always!! I admire your patience with that brass brush, i always go at it with a much bigger flame and a round wire brush on a grinder :-D
Helmet is finished ... HOW DID YOU PUT THE PLUM IN AND WITH WHAT
Stunning work!! Its just like out of the movie! And the music in the background is rocking.
thank you I appreciate it. the music is by kapala you can check him out on youtube
If you don't have the roller can you just use a anvil or a surface to round it out with a hammer?
yes, that will work too

Do u know which welding machine you will use
how did you get the Crest
Dumb question, is this TIG or MIG welding?
How long Did That Take
How many of these did you have to build by hand for the movie? Must have taken quite some time
why not use the torch on the brass brush to put the brass color on the helmet?
then I would only get one use out of the brush
But how do you make sure it will fit perfectly?
This is amazing! Awesome job sir!
thanks
awesome as always
Omg how do you add the fur at the end what did you use???
A Super job .....WoW !!!!
thanks
Nice helmet, what's the thickness of the metal sheets that you use?
Will you make a original stormtrooper helmet?
