Fact here from a CDL holder for over 10 years: so any on road fatality crash involving a commercial motor vehicle over 10k lbs automatically triggers a federal investigation on top of a local accident investigation team… DOT certified drivers fall into federal liability and operating provisions. The driver will be tested for substance and health issues after being involved in a incident like this. I can’t understand how logistics companies in states will legal weed say that they don’t test for weed upon hire when federal law prohibits an operator of a CMV to have cannabis in their system. So just a warning for drivers out there who might consume weed where legal, thinking it won’t be an issue… this was the perfect example, stay safe out there! 😮😢
I have no idea what really happened but I will say, people just don’t pay attention anymore! I drive a sanitation truck and I have seen a lot of dumb shit! I almost wiped out 2 kids on bikes last week! Came from behind me in my blind spot and zipped right in front of my truck! Thank god that I saw them at the last minute! Please pay attention out there! Stay safe everyone!
Truck looks far from the curb though in that pic. Ok I wasn't there but im gonna rant anyway. As a truck driver this is tragic. No driver wants to have this happen and have to live with this on their head even if not at fault.. What I see day to day is careless people doing careless things all the time! Some people don't even know how to cross the street. They look at the traffic lights dumbfounded. I mean seriously get a clue . And the city telling people jaywalking is not illegal anymore is so stupid. Literally issued a death sentence on the ignorant. I get people popping out on the street from all over. Pedestrians need to be in crosswalks period. Anyway carry on all. Stay safe, use crosswalks, stay away from the curbs and ne carefully entering and exiting your parked vehicle on street side. Seriously with your doors wide open not even giving 2 you know whats.

I find myself in that area of the city a lot and if we are talking about congestion let's start with all of them stupid covid-19 restaurant boxes in the street that people sit in with rats and water bugs to consume their meals so when a truck driver pulls up to unload his truck what does he do, he puts his flashers on in the middle of the street and makes the delivery, all it takes is one truck doing that and for blocks around him traffic comes to a standstill. Another dumb thing the city did is to allow citibike to take over very valuable parking spots in all of the five boroughs so now you have cars circling the neighborhood looking for a place to park. They could have placed them on the sidewalks around the park's fences throughout the boroughs.
