im a award winning childrens book author who painted his illustrations digitally. but now after years of eyestrain, the rise of ai and digitalization, i find myself yearning to go analogue. this was so helpful.
I really like the shading you do before adding the watercolors. I've been experimenting w ink washes and I think they can be so beautiful and unique as compared to screentone (digital more otherwise)
Thank you, Richard! Yeah, the shading with ink before watercoloring thing is something i feel like i just stumbled into. there's probably some purists that frown on mixing media like that but i say, whatever feels right and works for the person making the art.
thank you. i don't think i have made any videos specifically on painting animals. most of my videos concern making pages for my comics or maybe an occasional commission. i have a few videos where i remember struggling with a couple animals in the comic, but it's mostly me trying to muddle my way through it. I know there are a bunch of people doing painting instructional videos on here, but the guy i recommend and who i am inspired and informed by is James Gurney www.youtube.com/@JamesGurney
it is Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Art Journal - 11'' x 8-1/2'', 64 pages, Hardbound. i have to cut out the paper into individual sheets so i can tape them down on boards. i'm sure there is some equivalent available somewhere that isn't stitched into a hardbound sketchbook but i like the way this specific paper takes both ink and watercolor. other artist materials with links where to purchase are in the description of this video. thanks for checking it out.
So good to see actual ink and, even more reassuring, water color in this age of digitalization.
thanks, Bryan. makes me happy there are people out there who appreciate it
finally TH-cam be giving me what I've longed searched for, you don't gotta have all the pro tools and material to start a comic book❤❤❤
