Just got back from Manila last week (2/27/2020)... had an awesome time, lost some weight from all the walking and sight seeing. No doubt that the Philippines has some advantages over other Asian countries... ( I've been to 8 so far and 17 countries total) but the ability to communicate easily is the biggest advantage, the food ain't too shabby either... Lechon Baboy is got to be one of my top favorites. I was looking at condos furnished and unfurnished and mostly just 1 bedroom with around 250 to 550 sq. ft. Like any major world city, there are clean areas and there are the slummish areas... but I saw condos as low as (US) $100/ month all the way up to $1,200/month. Just was in New York City 4 months ago and was paying $150/night in walking distance of TIMES SQUARE... Let's just say.... it was nothing nice about NYC hotels in that price range.... not until you start to pay over $225/night. 1 week in NYC cost me a good bit more than 4 weeks in Manila. Too all the people making nasty negative comments on here... please get out of your parent's basement and go see the world. Stop being so scared and get out of your bubble.

Brad Jordan, Thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment and putting the costs into perspective. Manila is not my first choice of cities to live in but I do love the people here in the Philippines and the language is certainly a great advantage.

@@enricocontrerasaraneta7290 He is just saying his own opinion freedom of expression you know. If you stop people expressing what’s next. I found Canadians women beautiful compared to the Philippines 🇵🇭 is that hurting you now do you want me to go away...but my wife she is a Filipina ironically. If that can make you feel better about me. God speed

Jeepney is probably the most economic and ICONIC way to circle around
Metro Manila and it includes a wide variety of events/entertainment that
would optionally requires you to give tips and these are drummer at
the back of the jeep, singers, people who randomly gives you a small
envelope, religious activity and the most aggressive of them all the
holdduppers especially for expats like you, DONT fight them! unless you
don't want to see the next sun rise.

Jim I'm interested in retirement in the Philippines but not manila.too crowded and expensive. What about outside of Manila, like tagig, pasig, bcg.

Willard Whitfield Taguig, Pasig, Makati etc are cities-areas which are also part of Metro Manila.

Try Eastwood city in QC, very nice, clean, safe and the area is walkable. Everything is in here, malls, restaurants, banks, grocery stores, etc. They even have s&r membership club which is similar to costco, actually they also carry costco products.
