    Wow so many comments from interested people. I am a Warm Springs Chiricahua Apache and live in NM. I am a direct descendant of Warm Springs Chiricahua Chief's Victorio, Mangas Coloradas and Loco, I am also a direct descendant of US Chiricahua Apache scouts Charles Martine Sr and Paul Guydelkon Sr. My late grandmother Evelyn Martine was the last Chiricahua Apache born as a prisoner of war in Ft Sill Oklahoma in 1912. Have been to Ft. Bowie a few times and have said my prayers and blessings as I walked up through Apache pass.

      @stagecoacher Our lineage is in a book titled, "Apache Mothers and Daughters " by Ruth Boyer and Narcissus Gayton Wheeler, I was a pallbearer at my aunt Narcissus' funeral about 30 years ago.

    Thanks for a wonderful presentation! I am getting my Toyota Minnie-Winnebago road worthy again, and your video just confirmed what my heart has been yearning for for decades,, to explore the western states, especially the historic 1800's locations, such as Fort Bowie!! I've only been out west on a lower southern cross-country trip along I-10 from Florida to California. I have always been fascinated since early childhood, with the Cavalry soldiers and the military forts and compounds. I am fanatical in my interests, especially with the forts, and battlefields. Also the many ghost towns as well. I plan on trying to spend 6 months touring the country starting with Illinois, and going west all through to Washington, and then head south along the Pacific coast slowly southward to California, and by then it should be cooling down a bit. And I could enjoy the south west and take my time in the lower half of California and Nevada and slowly work my way east along I-10, heading back home towards lower North Carolina on the coast in Wilmington city. Lord willing I'll be able to accomplish this mammoth trip that's been a childhood dream~!~

    Nice, just a correction: cattle wrestling isn't a military issue, but Cochise was accused of kidnapping a 12 yr old boy and that's why Bascom came in.

    • @taijuan1015
      @taijuan1015 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Bascom invited Cochise in for a talk, then demanded he release the boy. Cochise told Bascom he didn't know where the boy was (truthfully) but offered to find out. Bascom then tried to arrest Cochise but Cochise slit open the back of the tent and escaped. Bascom ordered his troops to fire on Cochise and captured some of his friends and family who had come along, including his wife and 6 year old son. Cochise had been an advocate of peace with the whites (though he still raided into Mexico), but now went to war against them. This was the start of the Apache Wars.
      Before this incident, Cochise supplied hay and wood to the Butterfield station at Apache Pass and forbid his braves to attack the stage coaches.
