You didn't mention the multi-spot metering button next to shutter release.. one of the most interesting features.. the T90 was an epic camera back in the day.. and still is.. I still have mine .. 👍🏻

I still have all 4 of mine. One just died so that makes 3.

I've patched an eBay example together after a battery explosion and it's fairly remarkable to use. Compared to a T70 from the Jurassic Era, and an F-1 from the Triassic, (And a P which is almost Permian) It's a bit like something from the last few days of the Maastrictian end of Cretaceous period - a big feathered raptor that's obviously a prototype of what's going to follow after the rock drops. But still a bit of a dinosaur.
Being able to use the AA batteries is the best feature. They'll be available until the end of the Anthropocene. Second best feature is that fast shutter and high flash sync. Third best feature is how comfortable it is to hold.

Best camera I ever owned, bar none. I kick myself for selling it every time I see reviews (sales promotions) like this.

My all-time favorite camera! It was the best Canon camera before autofocus (which was not so great during the first couple of generations). I used it throughought my years in Asia. First Canon camera with shiftable Program mode. The multi-spot metering allowed you to average multiple spot readings, recompose the shot and shoot the pictures. You could emphasize the exposure in one area by adding an extra spot reading of that area. (YOU, the photographer, were the "AI" In the mid 80's.) This feature allowed the camera to average up to 9 spot readings.
I loved having a 50mm 1.2 lens. I had a Sigma 17-35mm, a Sigma 35mm-210mm, and a 50mm 1.2 lens. I was so bummed that they never created a digitizer for this camera when digital backs were made for other bodies. Since the power could be supplied by 4 AA batteries, I was always able to find replacements nearby--even in the deeply remote landlocked center of the Asian continent.
I never considered selling it. Even without daily use, it was a great reminder of the hight of the end of an era which I so thoroughly enjoyed when traveling.
All equipment was lost in the "Camp Fire" that burned 19,000 structures in my hometown of Paradise, CA.

Don't forget this camera was the mother for all modern cameras coming after since for all brands. The appearance was nothing like any cameras seen yet in those days, the means of control differed severely in comparison with other cameras in those days. The design was by Luigi Colani.

I had this camera back in the 90s and absolutely loved it. I paired it with a Canon 85mm f1.8 lens and it was great. I just ordered one online. Can't wait to get back into it.

The T90 is incomplete without the dedicated 300TL flash. It's the only film camera that lets you do TTL flash spot-metering.

    • @kennethlavalle1608
      @kennethlavalle1608 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Contax RTS III also allows TTL flash spot metering with a lever underneath the drive settings.

10:48 All FD mount lenses including that 50mm f1.4 chrome nose will perfectly work fine in open aperture metering. There's no need to engage the stop down lever on that particular lens. On older FL lenses, the stop down lever has to be engage for proper metering.

My T-90 has been sitting on a [cool dry] shelf with Energizers in it for the last 20 years. After watching this I thought I'd go see if it still works. Turned it on, pressed the button, and it fired off a shot!. I''m very surprised. When it was about 10-15 years old I had to get the PRAM battery changed because the original died. Now 20-25 years later this one is still alive. I guess having batteries in the camera saves the little button cell from being overworked.

There are definitely some FD lenses commanding astronomical prices on the used market. The FD 24mm f/1.4 L, 50mm f/1.2 L, 55mm f/1.2 SSC Aspherical, and the 85mm f/1.2 L are sought after by film makers for conversion into cinema lenses. All of the FD lenses can be used on mirrorless digital cameras with a simple adapter. Modern lenses may be sharper toward the edge of the frame, but if you can live within their limitations, you can have an excellent lens for 10% of the price of a comparable new lens.

Canon: Unrivalled in Quality and Legacy - On the 32nd anniversary of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in the Philippines, we honor our compatriot, Albert Garcia, and the indelible images he captured during and after this pivotal event on June 15, 1991. These previously unpublished photographs offer an extraordinary perspective on the vast destruction caused by the eruption, underscoring the unyielding resilience of the impacted communities. They stand as a testament to our capacity to learn from natural disasters and emphasize the importance of preparedness for future challenges. The power of visual storytelling shines through in these images, all captured on the legendary Canon EF T90, the precursor to my current camera, the Canon 90D. Canon's enduring quality and innovative legacy continue to inspire, setting the bar for photographic excellence."

Reminds me a lot of the look of the Canon 1V, especially the little buttons on top and the shape of the body. I recall when Pentax made the PZ1 it worked nicely but I still preferred the size and feel of the ME Super.
It takes getting used to, now I prefer the more modern body styles, generally.

The T-90 is a great camera. I shot with one for more than 10 years. But after that, it developed some electronic problems. Also, the T-90 is a beast compared even to an Olympus OM camera with a motor drive.

I own two T90 in very good condition except for the bottom kind like rubber coating which tends to "bubble" after years.
The only real issue with this camera is the replacement of the backup battery, very tricky and difficult.
Just one precision though, the third metering mode is not really "center weighted", it's more like the partial metering on the F1, FTb or NewF1 equipped with the right focusing screen.
Great video on a legendary camera.

“The FD lens mount is a breech-lock mount, which is a variation of the common triple-flanged bayonet attachment. The advantage of the breech-lock over the bayonet is that neither the contact surfaces between the body and lens, nor the signalling mechanisms, rotate against each other when the lens is mounted. This prevents any mechanical wear, which could conceivably reduce the very precise lens-to-film distance or introduce communication errors between lens and body.” From en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_FD_lens_mount.

There's something wrong with either your lens or the T90 body because the lens is stopped down while being fully bayonetted to the mount.

One of the best SLR's I have. I use to travel with my film cameras and, if the choice is Canon, the T90 is always one of the ones I got. Not very easy to know all the features it have.

Check the battery contacts. They often have corrosion and even a little can be a problem. If there is corrosion, try to scrape it until the battery can contact bare metal.

What I've found is that most of the interesting vintage SLR lenses definitely are NOT a good value for money right now as most of them cost thousands. If you disagree, I'm willing to buy your vintage OM and FD lenses priced in hundreds instead of thousands. The same has happened to all SLR lenses except for Nikon F, because of the movie people using these for films instead of spending their multi-million budgets in new Leica and Zeiss lenses us amateurs can't buy, nor use.
