Did you notice Tiffany's husband is Chad Stahelski, director of john wick and Keanu Reeves matrix Stunt Double. Nobody pointed out that in YT or everyone is stupid or thinks less of him.
Fascinated, then underwhelmed! It's such a shame because it starts off pretty good, the first 3rd of the movie is pretty solid and in general there are so many cool ideas in the movie like the synthients, or the machine civil war, the new way out of the matrix! I liked Neil Patrick Harris as the villain and I even liked the Actor for Agent Smith! The funny thing is my least favorite part of the movie is Neo and Trinity, they seem so disinterested and lame compared to the rest of the new cast. It really feels like they don't even want to be there! I really liked Bugs, she was interesting engaging, and had a cool looking avatar! Morpheus 2.0, I was initially against when I watched the trailer, but he is Morpheus in name only, and is a pretty interesting character due to him being a sentient program, and he was just fun to watch! All in all 2.5/5. For comparison, I would rate M1 - 5/5, M2 - 4.5/5 and M3 - 4/5
completely awful. lana admitted to a now scrubbed interview she redid all the old scenes from the original trilogy to "show you cannot redo those movies even if intended" aka just to proof that lightning on a bottle is just once in a lifetime. total garbage that trolls the audience and WB. lana needs to be sued and WB get all her precious wigs. they probably are 5 years away from a full reboot without the wachoskis involvement.

Woo Ping is a fight choreography master, he is 76 and hasn't worked on a movie as fight choreographer since The Grandmaster from 2013. He has been directing movies since 1978, debuting with Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. I've watched his kung fu flicks since I was 12. He would have been crucial to Resurrections, he's a filmmaker Ironman. He also was choreographer for Keanu Reeves directed The Man from Tai Chi, I recommend you react to it.

This one is difficult. Because it feels so different. But then again, it has to be. It's been nearly 2 decades. Making it the same would defeat the purpose of making it at all. And this one played with some pretty cool ideas in a fun way. And, if you stop and think about what Morpheus told Neo all those years ago... when the Matrix first was made, there was a man born inside who could manipulate it. Well, here we are, the birth of the Matrix 2.0. And in it is a man who has forgotten who he is and needs a rebirth, so that he can manipulate it. And honestly, I really really love that they found a way to have programs come to the real world and work with them, and that there are machines and programs who want to help humans and vice versa. It makes it so much more interesting than the extremely black and white of the first 3. But that was the point of the first 3.

Especially if movie 1 was all about Neo keep failing on getting saved, there's a reset after his 'death' and things play out from a sort of 'last save' kind of where the movie started for him. Very much a purgatory/groundhogsday sort of vibe... and then a final hardcore 'artificially-created agent-morpheus hybrid of neo's own creation in a simulation within the simulation (a la what happens in the movie) finally breaks free due to just enough time being allowed to pass after a following reset. perhaps Neo's had a micro-recall of things and have accidentally added it into the coding for the Modal... hence maybe also why there's details that aren't adding up fully visually and eventwise. It'd be cool imo. Then movie two would be all about getting neo out, reconnecting him with the real world and reconnecting his prior skills and abilities due to, well, stagnation and bad-machines meddling, etc. Perhaps do simulation runs of events from the prior movies but with twist and changes so Neo might feel that Deja Vu sensation but that it is meant to signal that something is WRONG, not that 'I know what will happen next'. They can explain why the simulation characters do not fit the original caste due to 'software bug' or just something more simpler such as 'we need an RSI, Residual-Self Image, and we do not have those of people that's passed away and such, so facimilies have been made'. Third Movie could be the fullblown rage against the machines and the possible liberation of the Architect, the Oracle and maybe also Trinity here, if not earlier - So that mister blue-glasses can be taken down. Maybe some revelation of 'fragmented piece of neo himself that failed getting purged during the Revolutions-reset maybe explain it away as a residual bug from the Smithification of things back then. I dunno, I just would have enjoyed it all a bit more if it'd not just been over one movie cuz the first half feels like the first half of 'movie 1', then we have all of second half AND a second movie crammed into the middle of second and third act.
The Matrix for me has always been about Neo and Trinity. My biggest criticism of this movie is also a strength of it, in that the action was sacrificed to tell a more personal story. I enjoyed it, but maybe not as much as the OT. Then again these movies have always been ahead of their time so maybe my feelings change in a couple years.
Yeah what’s crazy is I didn’t get that until this movie. When I went back and watched their scenes in the original trilogy…you’re right. Neos motivation has always come from Trinity. Everything he did to be heralded as “the one” was because he made choices solely revolving around Trinity

the whole film was calling out WB, that scene about them making "the game" without Tom was actually what WB said the original director. Basically going "Look we're making Matrix 4 with or without you. So write it or we will." So they went "fine, but im calling you out, hollywood out, the whole matrix Stans and im going extra meta on the people-sheeple who chose to wear masks and get vaccinated."
As for Agent Smith, they did want Hugo Weaving back and he himself wanted back, but unfortunately his schedule was busy when they had to film (think he was part of some theatrical play). Basically everyone who was approached from the original cast, decided to join. However it is still a mystery why they didn't even approach Lawrence Fishburne for the role of Morpheus.
I believe Morpheus dies off screen in the open world matrix game for the PC in the late 2000s, and they make this canon. This was another thing that sort of ruins the franchise for regular movie goers bevause not everyone played these games.
I had such low expectations for this movie... and it met none of them lol. It was frustrating, way too meta, and didn't feel like a movie at times. Just a creator who had disdain for the franchise. I thought at least the action would make the trip to the theater worth it, but it was the typical 2010s jump cut after jump cut shaky cam. Blarghhhh. That's the feeling I got from this. lol keep up the great work guys.

At the beginning , it's a trainning room for agent to improve their skills. At 3:09 , the ad of the restaurant "For those who love to eat Shit" LMFAO Morpheus is a program created by Mr Anderson for his game , a mix of Morpheus and Smith. 10:17 , the reason why Morpheus is not in this movie it's because he died in Matrix online (Sorry for the spoiler of an old game). 24:10 , he is the new architect , he talked about the ancient one at a moment. but he also talked about "...convince the Suits". That mean even the Architect of the Matrix is not the higher level of the Machine , the "Suits" seems to be above him. At the End , we know that Smith is still free and search his freedom (maybe he gonna be against the Suits) , we don"t know yet why exactly the Machine was in War and who could be the Vilain/Friend (Sati could be in the clan of Friend). If the Oracle disappear of the Matrix it's surely because the new architect's method was not what she wanted to live so she went to an another one (maybe the same of Sati's world). If Morpheus is a program built buy Neo , this one could be improve by his autor too and begin a powerful agent.
Honestly, I fvcking hated Resurrections to the core BUT when I did a rewatch (2x actually) and just concentrated with the story and look away during disappointing fight scenes... Miracle happened.. i ended up liking it. It has so many layers actually if you'll take the time to dissect on it. Great reaction guys!

One agreed to make it but the other declined. So the stuff about Warner Brothers wanting Thomas Anderson to make another game is very meta

Horrible sequel. It felt like a fan fiction love story. A dream. With no real danger or stakes. No one died. They should have focused on Trinity's story and waking her up. Her life pre-Matrix that we never got to see in the original. There is so much they could have done to make this on par with the originals and it just fell flat on its face. It was nice to see Trinity and Neo again but we honestly only got to see them truly be themselves at the very end of the movie. It was boring. Smith and the Exiles were no longer dangerous. It honestly felt like a joke.
Morpheus died in Matrix Online game, its a continuation of Matrix Revolutions. Would make zero sense to bring back the same actor. Which is why the hate is unwarranted.
They not only wanted to bring a new message about how some of the things from the matrix movies did not had the intended effect they wanted but they also wanted the new generation to get into it too. So I get the new picks for the old characters and they got more color in it because that was a criticism too. Even if the matrix had evolved the some of its core functions would still be the same ... but in another form.
I was let down with the low amount of fighting but the story itself was on point for me. I’ve always loved The Matrix saga. My very first DVD I’ve owned was The Matrix. I have been and will always be a fan. I just wish there was more than what we have now. Comparing it to Star Wars but I guess it could never be a big universe like Star Wars is.
I saw a picture online where he was talking to his gf and his head was shaved, so he really did have it shaved, and I am sure Carrie did the same in RL.

You either save the woman you love and lose Zion(humanity) or save Zion(humanity) and lose the woman you love " The version of Neo we see in the movies saved Trinity (for a short period of time) then saved humanity (but died, so he lost them for himself)
There's definitely valid criticism about this movie, and to each their own - but I also think there's good things that are being distracted from by dumb surface-level ideas. It's meta and self-aware and it doesn't take itself too seriously. I enjoyed it because all of the "cool shit" that we all would've wanted from this kind of a movie is still there. The whole concept of "The Matrix - A Video Game by Thomas Anderson," sounds really stupid. But it makes sense because Neo is The One. The Machines can stick him back into the Matrix, load him up with bluepills, make him go to therapy, make him think he's crazy, surround him with douchebags, but there are STILL parts of his memory that they'll never be able to erase completely... so they gave those memories an alibi. Not only that, the opening sequence, the "Modal" was created by Neo, existing in The Matrix. He still has that control, and that's the outlet - he thinks it's isolated game design, but The One is still Making The Matrix As He Sees Fit (It kind of reminds me of Bruce Almighty, where he answers prayers through e-mail). He might not even be consciously aware of it - and yet, on the other side of the coin, they made "The Matrix" part of the 'pop culture' INSIDE of the Matrix. Now words like "Neo" "Trinity" "Morpheus" are household names. Trying to find Neo through some kind of a search is going to be worse than useless. Morpheus: Roland. I’d like to run another search through the Matrix. Roland: For what? Morpheus: For Neo. Because you'd have a SHITLOAD of hits. Not only THAT - the idea that they would have the original scenes be projected on a curtain while Morpheus talks about "Set and Setting" actually makes sense too because it's the quietest way to address the elephant in the room, being that this isn't just fucking with a mentally disabled person for laughs, making fun of an innocent delusion that's clearly eating away at him - making him think that the characters in the game are based on of people he sees in the Matrix. Another level of control. People say, "Oh, the Matrix looks so different, where's the green tint? This doesn't look like The Matrix at all!" Yeah... I know. But it's exactly how we left it at the end of The Matrix Revolutions, with Sati doing all of those HSL adjustments right before The Architect walks up casual as fuck.
There are more laughs in Resurrections than people would expect, but I think that the predicament that Neo and Trinity are in is actually WAY more sinister. And a lot of the "humor" of the first act is kind of subversive and distasteful -- poking fun at Thomas and Tiffany, have absolutely NO fucking clue what's going on. It's like Inception, but every new layer is another form of gaslighting, effectively. And it's torture because Neo can see Trinity and Trinity can see Neo - but everybody else just sees a creepy old guy and a middle aged soccer mom. In the time that's passed between Revolutions and Resurrections, the Machines have gone from dispassionately keeping humanity captive and using them as a power source, but in this, they are actively fucking with people on purpose, and just casually splatting bluepills en masse... It's meta and self-aware, but it makes a lot of sense diegetically. Yeah, it breaks the fourth wall and it's kind of cringe if you take that as, "Hey, Dumb Audience, Remember Good Movies?" And that's not what's going on at all. It's more along the lines of, "Hey, Thomas, you've got a mental illness, you're craaaaaaazy, none of those memories you have of the previous movies actually happened, you dumb shit, those are from your video game! Boy, the fame really went to your head. You have lost it, buddy. You need to go see a Psychiiatrist." Yes, the silly things are silly. But not NEARLY as sillly as GalaxyQuest or R.I.P.D.

Let's say Matrix Resurrections was more of a fan service than going deep into the lore. I mean we all wanted to see a happy ending for Neo and Trinity and the movie gave it to us. Also I love the fourth wall breaks in the movie that reminds us the trilogy was still a movie and not meant to be taken seriously and enjoy life more rather being occupied with digital world.
I'd say it's actually the exact opposite of fan service. The entire movie feels to me like Wachowski is saying "the series was finished, so fuck everyone who's forcing my hand making it." They were going to make a sequel with or without her, so she wanted to destroy the IP on her own terms. That's how I interpret it at least.

A lot of people wanted it to be just like the original... but it can't be. That would have failed so badly. You kind of have to treat it as an entirely new film. Watch it with a clean mind. It's not perfect. It tries a lot of new things and they don't all work great. But it absolutely has its moments and a solid story.
Matrix4 is based on junkie slang like trilogy on programming code previously. The consumer society is portrayed as a digital and pharmaceutical addict fleeing real problems in the world of video games and drugs. Back to the roots. Neo chooses to self-isolate his mind in an incubator. The circle of rebirths is complete. End of the movie ... Everything ends where it started... in the matrix under control of deus ex machina. ...did anyone tell you guys about The Animatrix? It's an animated series where each episode has a different animation style. It's backstory to the original films. I also think your commentary about the "both people will think this is talking about them," part at the end on the political commentary. And I agree. It happened with George Carlin, MLK, The Matrix (red pill discourse would literally be NPH's constructs), or even Rage Against The Machine when people were all "what? I liked them before they were political..." They've all had their messaging co-opted by the very people they spoke out against. the character of Morpheus died in one of the games. because the games are canon they couldn't just bring him back willy nelly. they had to come up with a way, hence the change of actors.

Going in...I did not expect anything from The Matrix Resurrections, I know for sure it will NOT be better than the original movie. With low expectations, I managed to enjoy it TWICE in the cinema!

The sad desecration of a once great series. The Wachowski Brothers just fell so far. I wanted this movie to be good but thanks to their political attempt to "take back" the meaning of "red pill", it just fell so flat.

I understand he's old and can't move like his old days but that's where the OG matrix choreographer should've been brough back, he could've designed action sequences which a veteran would do but would look cool and ground breaking. Trinity being the one too made sense to me and I had no problem with it but Neo playing second fiddle to her and being weak asf despite being the One? I didn't like this AT ALL. The fight scenes and editing were atrociously choppy, the story was nothing more than a nostalgia baiting orgy fest, all the new characters with the exception of bugs were all disposable and forgettable, and the movie overall was just flat out BORING. this movie actually makes me like Reloaded and Revolutions MORE.
Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving were smart enough to stay away. They are the one's who dodged the bullet of being in a lame, made for TV movie. Another once great franchise destroyed by Wokeness and Feminism.....so sad.

As far as Laurence Fishburn goes...I believe I read that there were some scheduling issues and he couldn't make it in time. Although Laurence stated that he's happy with the decision they made for Morpheus's storyline in this movie.

Loved the movie, and loved ur reactions. One little thing tho, when it comes to the fight scenes, It's possible they didn't have that much umpf as the others because neo was not fully back to his old self.... maybe the sequels will have better fight scenes. I'm glad you guys enjoy Resurrection. I know there's many people out there who dislike it, but I genuinely love and enjoy watched Resurrection. Yeah, it is different compare to trilogy and it might feels odd for some poeple, but I don't mind by that. If there's a chance Lana will continue making future Matrix movies, I'm curious with what she might bring. If my memories are right, Lana actually contacted Hugo Weaving for his role as Agent Smith. But sadly, he's unable to do so due to scheduling conflict, which kinda bummers me a little. I do like Jonathan Groff performance as Agent Smith and I think he did a great job, but like you guys said, there's just something in Hugo's performance that makes Agent Smith as iconic villain. If there's going to be future Matrix movies, I do hope Hugo might come back with his role as Agent Smith. Another thing I notice, but not many people talk about it, is Trinity's dream could be a foreshadowing of her also having The One's power. Reloaded starts with Neo having a dream about Trinity's 'death', which turns out to be true. And, if memories are right, the Oracle seems mention that Neo has 'the sight'. So even before the leap later, Trinity unknowingly already posses it.

@@BaddMedicine I think you guys mentioned that during Revolution (when Neo had vision of Machine City). I don't think that means Neo would be the future Oracle, but I do think he might have similiar ability as her, just not as strong as her. The Oracle might or might not have something to do with it. Considering what the Architect said ("You played a very dangerous game"), she could have done that so peace between two side can happen, not just for one chance only, but likely so for foreseable future by Neo & Trinity. At least, that's what I think anyway, so it's a bit stretch 😆 As for if would be better if Lana still around future Matrix movies? Well, in my opinion, I would like Lana still stick with Matrix stuff. I dunno if someone else can do Matrix stuff without Lana being part of it. Who knows, really. I guess time will tell.
Lana wachowski didn't even think to ask Lawrence fishburne or Hugo weaving to come back and reprise their roles. She also didn't work with her Sibling and most of the same ppl who worked on the last three.
I think I know why none of the 'originals' were recasted as their prior roles is due to perhaps they having had unplugged so the Matrix had no files to base them on, so they could only create facimilies. Or rather Neo could only do so since there was only him and Trinity's visuals to compare with. Also here is a funny question, just like with the first movie and Tasty Wheaties..... How do we know that the matrix translated strawberry's taste is even correct with how the original real world-strawberry had tasted...? Mmmmh? Always a funny thought to think if we a regular person from now would even find a functional similarity in taste.
A slightly more interesting question, how do we know that you’re perception of the taste of strawberry, and my perception of it, are the same thing? How do we know that the color red for you is the same for me? Just because we grow up and are taught the labels of these things doesn’t mean that we all experience them in the same way as everyone else. A colorblind person could probably pick out most colors with their proper name, but are they actually seeing the same color I’m seeing? Maybe red for them is actually green to me, but since we only know our own perception the labels we were taught are the same for each of us despite seeing two different colors, or tasting different things.

If everyone was blind and we had to agree what was red due to a texture difference in the touch of it... then our perceptions of it and what is imagined would very much be a question of 'what do people think when they are told a thing is red'.
a lot of people hated this movie but im sure some people liked it i really enjoyed it it became my favorite as well as number 1 having said that there probably all good imo. things have chaged over the years so yes it was a little different. i also haven't seen 2 or or 3 in a while but i remember not enjoying the 3rd as much maybe i thought matrix should have been 1 movie and done earlier probably that was it stillo haven't watched the others for years now so maybe should put them on again sometime
In case you dont know, Fishburn wasnt cast as in the Matrix storyline he is dead. He dies in the game which was said to be canon from the Wackowskis, he demands the machines return Neos body to Zion and reverts back to terrorist tactics in the Matrix to force them to, he is set up and killed.

Maybe, maybe not. I think critics these days are very hard to please or that the original was so good that all other Matrix movies get mixed reviews. I'm a big fan of all three and now four, I think you guys were pretty spot on also, I liked the story, the performances were good but I was a little disappointed by the fight scenes, I was hoping for that Matrix epic stuff not that it was bad though.

I didn't really have that many expectations because it's been years since I saw the original movie (I loved it, still the best one of these). I also only saw the other two once years ago. So, I can't say I was dissapointed... I love that Neo and Trinity got another change. My rating is maybe 3.7. It wasn't a bad movie, it wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed watching it.
Oh I was so disappointed with this. Eventually I came around to accept it as ok, though the worst of them, but I was heartbroken at the time this was what we got. The original Morpheus would have helped immensely, but it was a bit too dull either way. And I HATED they set Trinity up with a family that wasn't Neo. There was just so much that was a let down. It actually felt a bit too much "Remember this? And this? and this?" Too many callbacks to the original.
I just didn't get it. How is niobe alive but much older than neo and trinity. What happened to zion? How the hell did rhey end up back in the matrix? The film literally offers no answers. I love the actors and lana wachowski but this was not a good sequel.
All I can say is. Fuck this movie, what a waste of time. They can do sooooo much with the Matrix universe and they decide this piece of shit. I’m glad I didn’t pay money and used my gift card instead to pay for this movie.
I feel like I'll like this movie a lot more in the future. The fight scene chorography did seem a bit off though. Some of the ideas presented did seem interesting. All in all felt like an unneeded sequel on first watch.
Reason why fishburne isn't in the movie is cause they never brought it up to him. He said it himself and it makes sense because if he's willing to do john wick movies then i dont see why this would be any difference unless he was never told. As for smith, scheduling issues with other projects
I love all four of the Matrix films. I honestly don't understand why it's getting so much hate. It's a great movie. And unfortunately I think that a lot of the hate is coming from bigots who don't understand what the Matrix films are about.
Just found your channel a few days ago. Been enjoying binge watching. My girlfriend and I saw the originals several times each in theaters and have watched them many times at home. As for this movie, we didn't enjoy it very much. It had some good parts(I like NPH's character), but it just fell flat with us. It felt like a fan service cash grab. I would go with one of your lower scores of 3.9 ...out of 10.
This movie was a win for me, I was just so happy to finally see Neo and Trinity get to finally be together--it's what they deserved all along and I was sad they never got it in the OG Trilogy. That said I of course have my issues: #1 is the awful Agent Smith recasting. If you're going to recast, at least get someone who has some gravitas and weight to their performance. This guy was so forgettable and milquetoast, it was awful.
I did like the movie. Granted it wasn’t as good as the other matrix movies. The fight scenes didn’t flow well for me. Meaning they didn’t seem as good as in the first movie. I would rate this as a 4 on the answer scale.
If the only thing was new castings, like saying the new oracle broke the movie, meh. I can understand it, but not a real story breaker. I also love that Billy Madison is what you think is the height of cinema, but you know Happy Gilmore can't think past The Waterboy.
I really liked the plot. It is the execution of fighting sequences that was such a huge disappointment for me. In the previous films the fighting scenes were bringing in me such emotions as awe, excitement, adrenaline and I just wanted to re-watch every scene and every movement again and again. Here it was just a huge pile of bodies, chaotic movements without any fluidity in them and repetition and repetition of the same moves. Also I was so frustrated with nobody being able to shoot properly. Like there is a whole rain of bullets and like heck nobody could possibly land the damn bullet. I just loved that Neo and Trinity are finally got to be together. One of the most favourite couples in the history of cinematography for me. They deserved their happy ending. Also I was really let down by the OST. Can't remember any music from the film except the one from montage. p.s. 1) About including our reality into the film (the scene when they discussed the new game) I hated it so much! That was the same as the 1st ep of 3rd season of Sherlock BBC, when they included fans' theories into the plot. That was unnecessary and just spoiled both an episode of Sherlock for me and left an unpleasant feeling here in Resurrection as well; 2) The hell that French exile was doing there...Like wth was that; 3) I understand that it was necessary for the plot, but at the same time, the amount of nostalgia and flashbacks from the previous movies was too much. It just showed me how I wished the Resurrection was at least 45% as perfect as the Matrix. At those moments I just wished to leave the theatre.
French guy was for fan service. The guy survived program halocaust, now he is hiding as hobo, scared for his life. He talked like typical old guy who doesn't like anything in new world. Smith needed to be introduced to Neo and audience. It was perfectly done by including French guy with his minions. So Neo could deal with Smith while other guys were beating up minions.
I thought, action-wise, the movie was absolute crap compared with any of the others. Even just judging on the action itself, not a lack of action or anything. That said, after watching it a couple times. The story line is pretty decent. I don't mind the movie, it had a really high bar to hit, it's hard to separate that sometimes.

This movie is like a Frozen Lasagna reheated in the micro wave. Its still Lasagna, but its Miles away from what Mom's Homemade Lasagna used to be. I do believe that this movie is purposefully bad, i mean the Meta Joke at the beginning where Smith tells Neo that "WArner Bros called and they want a sequel, with or without us, so we might as well do it ourselfs" Where Lana Wachovski did it in Spit, cause the studio would've done it anyways. Now not to say that there is no interesting ideas or concepts. The Machines having a presence outside the Matrix and helping the Humans to rebuild the world is a good one, some Machines joining Human Hovercrafts crews is a neat thing, even tho they don't do much or have much presence. Matrix Ressurections is a flow of Good ideas and Concepts with a really bad Execution.
Whole concept with including Matrix trilogy in their world is original, dialogues between Mr Anderson and Analyst were cool, Machines who are allied with humans is cool, the war between machines is cool, the way they heisted Trinity hacking her tubes was cool. Mr Anderson's drama was close enough to Truman's show. I felt really bad for him. The whole Neo vs Architect scene was cool.

Did you notice Tiffany's husband is Chad Stahelski, director of john wick and Keanu Reeves matrix Stunt Double. Nobody pointed out that in YT or everyone is stupid or thinks less of him.
Fascinated, then underwhelmed! It's such a shame because it starts off pretty good, the first 3rd of the movie is pretty solid and in general there are so many cool ideas in the movie like the synthients, or the machine civil war, the new way out of the matrix! I liked Neil Patrick Harris as the villain and I even liked the Actor for Agent Smith! The funny thing is my least favorite part of the movie is Neo and Trinity, they seem so disinterested and lame compared to the rest of the new cast. It really feels like they don't even want to be there! I really liked Bugs, she was interesting engaging, and had a cool looking avatar! Morpheus 2.0, I was initially against when I watched the trailer, but he is Morpheus in name only, and is a pretty interesting character due to him being a sentient program, and he was just fun to watch!
All in all 2.5/5. For comparison, I would rate M1 - 5/5, M2 - 4.5/5 and M3 - 4/5

Woo Ping is a fight choreography master, he is 76 and hasn't worked on a movie as fight choreographer since The Grandmaster from 2013. He has been directing movies since 1978, debuting with Snake in the Eagle's Shadow. I've watched his kung fu flicks since I was 12. He would have been crucial to Resurrections, he's a filmmaker Ironman. He also was choreographer for Keanu Reeves directed The Man from Tai Chi, I recommend you react to it.

This one is difficult. Because it feels so different. But then again, it has to be. It's been nearly 2 decades. Making it the same would defeat the purpose of making it at all. And this one played with some pretty cool ideas in a fun way. And, if you stop and think about what Morpheus told Neo all those years ago... when the Matrix first was made, there was a man born inside who could manipulate it. Well, here we are, the birth of the Matrix 2.0. And in it is a man who has forgotten who he is and needs a rebirth, so that he can manipulate it. And honestly, I really really love that they found a way to have programs come to the real world and work with them, and that there are machines and programs who want to help humans and vice versa. It makes it so much more interesting than the extremely black and white of the first 3. But that was the point of the first 3.
It feels rushed, like it was a trilogy's worth of story crammed into a singular movie.

Especially if movie 1 was all about Neo keep failing on getting saved, there's a reset after his 'death' and things play out from a sort of 'last save' kind of where the movie started for him.
Very much a purgatory/groundhogsday sort of vibe... and then a final hardcore 'artificially-created agent-morpheus hybrid of neo's own creation in a simulation within the simulation (a la what happens in the movie) finally breaks free due to just enough time being allowed to pass after a following reset. perhaps Neo's had a micro-recall of things and have accidentally added it into the coding for the Modal... hence maybe also why there's details that aren't adding up fully visually and eventwise.
It'd be cool imo. Then movie two would be all about getting neo out, reconnecting him with the real world and reconnecting his prior skills and abilities due to, well, stagnation and bad-machines meddling, etc.
Perhaps do simulation runs of events from the prior movies but with twist and changes so Neo might feel that Deja Vu sensation but that it is meant to signal that something is WRONG, not that 'I know what will happen next'. They can explain why the simulation characters do not fit the original caste due to 'software bug' or just something more simpler such as 'we need an RSI, Residual-Self Image, and we do not have those of people that's passed away and such, so facimilies have been made'.
Third Movie could be the fullblown rage against the machines and the possible liberation of the Architect, the Oracle and maybe also Trinity here, if not earlier - So that mister blue-glasses can be taken down. Maybe some revelation of 'fragmented piece of neo himself that failed getting purged during the Revolutions-reset maybe explain it away as a residual bug from the Smithification of things back then.
I dunno, I just would have enjoyed it all a bit more if it'd not just been over one movie cuz the first half feels like the first half of 'movie 1', then we have all of second half AND a second movie crammed into the middle of second and third act.

The Matrix for me has always been about Neo and Trinity. My biggest criticism of this movie is also a strength of it, in that the action was sacrificed to tell a more personal story. I enjoyed it, but maybe not as much as the OT. Then again these movies have always been ahead of their time so maybe my feelings change in a couple years.

the whole film was calling out WB, that scene about them making "the game" without Tom was actually what WB said the original director. Basically going "Look we're making Matrix 4 with or without you. So write it or we will." So they went "fine, but im calling you out, hollywood out, the whole matrix Stans and im going extra meta on the people-sheeple who chose to wear masks and get vaccinated."
As for Agent Smith, they did want Hugo Weaving back and he himself wanted back, but unfortunately his schedule was busy when they had to film (think he was part of some theatrical play). Basically everyone who was approached from the original cast, decided to join. However it is still a mystery why they didn't even approach Lawrence Fishburne for the role of Morpheus.

I believe Morpheus dies off screen in the open world matrix game for the PC in the late 2000s, and they make this canon. This was another thing that sort of ruins the franchise for regular movie goers bevause not everyone played these games.

Morpheus is a program created by Mr Anderson for his game , a mix of Morpheus and Smith. 10:17 , the reason why Morpheus is not in this movie it's because he died in Matrix online (Sorry for the spoiler of an old game).
24:10 , he is the new architect , he talked about the ancient one at a moment. but he also talked about "...convince the Suits". That mean even the Architect of the Matrix is not the higher level of the Machine , the "Suits" seems to be above him.
At the End , we know that Smith is still free and search his freedom (maybe he gonna be against the Suits) , we don"t know yet why exactly the Machine was in War and who could be the Vilain/Friend (Sati could be in the clan of Friend). If the Oracle disappear of the Matrix it's surely because the new architect's method was not what she wanted to live so she went to an another one (maybe the same of Sati's world). If Morpheus is a program built buy Neo , this one could be improve by his autor too and begin a powerful agent.

Horrible sequel. It felt like a fan fiction love story. A dream. With no real danger or stakes. No one died. They should have focused on Trinity's story and waking her up. Her life pre-Matrix that we never got to see in the original. There is so much they could have done to make this on par with the originals and it just fell flat on its face. It was nice to see Trinity and Neo again but we honestly only got to see them truly be themselves at the very end of the movie. It was boring. Smith and the Exiles were no longer dangerous. It honestly felt like a joke.
Morpheus died in Matrix Online game, its a continuation of Matrix Revolutions. Would make zero sense to bring back the same actor. Which is why the hate is unwarranted.
They not only wanted to bring a new message about how some of the things from the matrix movies did not had the intended effect they wanted but they also wanted the new generation to get into it too. So I get the new picks for the old characters and they got more color in it because that was a criticism too. Even if the matrix had evolved the some of its core functions would still be the same ... but in another form.
I was let down with the low amount of fighting but the story itself was on point for me. I’ve always loved The Matrix saga. My very first DVD I’ve owned was The Matrix. I have been and will always be a fan. I just wish there was more than what we have now. Comparing it to Star Wars but I guess it could never be a big universe like Star Wars is.

The version of Neo we see in the movies saved Trinity (for a short period of time) then saved humanity (but died, so he lost them for himself)
There's definitely valid criticism about this movie, and to each their own - but I also think there's good things that are being distracted from by dumb surface-level ideas. It's meta and self-aware and it doesn't take itself too seriously. I enjoyed it because all of the "cool shit" that we all would've wanted from this kind of a movie is still there.
The whole concept of "The Matrix - A Video Game by Thomas Anderson," sounds really stupid. But it makes sense because Neo is The One. The Machines can stick him back into the Matrix, load him up with bluepills, make him go to therapy, make him think he's crazy, surround him with douchebags, but there are STILL parts of his memory that they'll never be able to erase completely... so they gave those memories an alibi.
Not only that, the opening sequence, the "Modal" was created by Neo, existing in The Matrix. He still has that control, and that's the outlet - he thinks it's isolated game design, but The One is still Making The Matrix As He Sees Fit (It kind of reminds me of Bruce Almighty, where he answers prayers through e-mail). He might not even be consciously aware of it - and yet, on the other side of the coin, they made "The Matrix" part of the 'pop culture' INSIDE of the Matrix. Now words like "Neo" "Trinity" "Morpheus" are household names. Trying to find Neo through some kind of a search is going to be worse than useless.
Morpheus: Roland. I’d like to run another search through the Matrix.
Roland: For what?
Morpheus: For Neo.
Because you'd have a SHITLOAD of hits.
Not only THAT - the idea that they would have the original scenes be projected on a curtain while Morpheus talks about "Set and Setting" actually makes sense too because it's the quietest way to address the elephant in the room, being that this isn't just fucking with a mentally disabled person for laughs, making fun of an innocent delusion that's clearly eating away at him - making him think that the characters in the game are based on of people he sees in the Matrix. Another level of control.
People say, "Oh, the Matrix looks so different, where's the green tint? This doesn't look like The Matrix at all!"
Yeah... I know. But it's exactly how we left it at the end of The Matrix Revolutions, with Sati doing all of those HSL adjustments right before The Architect walks up casual as fuck.
There are more laughs in Resurrections than people would expect, but I think that the predicament that Neo and Trinity are in is actually WAY more sinister. And a lot of the "humor" of the first act is kind of subversive and distasteful -- poking fun at Thomas and Tiffany, have absolutely NO fucking clue what's going on. It's like Inception, but every new layer is another form of gaslighting, effectively. And it's torture because Neo can see Trinity and Trinity can see Neo - but everybody else just sees a creepy old guy and a middle aged soccer mom.
In the time that's passed between Revolutions and Resurrections, the Machines have gone from dispassionately keeping humanity captive and using them as a power source, but in this, they are actively fucking with people on purpose, and just casually splatting bluepills en masse... It's meta and self-aware, but it makes a lot of sense diegetically.
Yeah, it breaks the fourth wall and it's kind of cringe if you take that as, "Hey, Dumb Audience, Remember Good Movies?" And that's not what's going on at all. It's more along the lines of, "Hey, Thomas, you've got a mental illness, you're craaaaaaazy, none of those memories you have of the previous movies actually happened, you dumb shit, those are from your video game! Boy, the fame really went to your head. You have lost it, buddy. You need to go see a Psychiiatrist."
Yes, the silly things are silly. But not NEARLY as sillly as GalaxyQuest or R.I.P.D.

Let's say Matrix Resurrections was more of a fan service than going deep into the lore. I mean we all wanted to see a happy ending for Neo and Trinity and the movie gave it to us. Also I love the fourth wall breaks in the movie that reminds us the trilogy was still a movie and not meant to be taken seriously and enjoy life more rather being occupied with digital world.
I'd say it's actually the exact opposite of fan service. The entire movie feels to me like Wachowski is saying "the series was finished, so fuck everyone who's forcing my hand making it." They were going to make a sequel with or without her, so she wanted to destroy the IP on her own terms. That's how I interpret it at least.

A lot of people wanted it to be just like the original... but it can't be. That would have failed so badly. You kind of have to treat it as an entirely new film. Watch it with a clean mind. It's not perfect. It tries a lot of new things and they don't all work great. But it absolutely has its moments and a solid story.

the character of Morpheus died in one of the games. because the games are canon they couldn't just bring him back willy nelly. they had to come up with a way, hence the change of actors.

The fight scenes and editing were atrociously choppy, the story was nothing more than a nostalgia baiting orgy fest, all the new characters with the exception of bugs were all disposable and forgettable, and the movie overall was just flat out BORING. this movie actually makes me like Reloaded and Revolutions MORE.

I'm glad you guys enjoy Resurrection. I know there's many people out there who dislike it, but I genuinely love and enjoy watched Resurrection. Yeah, it is different compare to trilogy and it might feels odd for some poeple, but I don't mind by that. If there's a chance Lana will continue making future Matrix movies, I'm curious with what she might bring.
If my memories are right, Lana actually contacted Hugo Weaving for his role as Agent Smith. But sadly, he's unable to do so due to scheduling conflict, which kinda bummers me a little. I do like Jonathan Groff performance as Agent Smith and I think he did a great job, but like you guys said, there's just something in Hugo's performance that makes Agent Smith as iconic villain. If there's going to be future Matrix movies, I do hope Hugo might come back with his role as Agent Smith.
Another thing I notice, but not many people talk about it, is Trinity's dream could be a foreshadowing of her also having The One's power. Reloaded starts with Neo having a dream about Trinity's 'death', which turns out to be true. And, if memories are right, the Oracle seems mention that Neo has 'the sight'. So even before the leap later, Trinity unknowingly already posses it.
Great stuff here. I almost wonder if it would be better if Lana wasn't apart of it if they were to make another? It does seem at one point neo couldve had oracle life powers.
@@BaddMedicine I think you guys mentioned that during Revolution (when Neo had vision of Machine City). I don't think that means Neo would be the future Oracle, but I do think he might have similiar ability as her, just not as strong as her. The Oracle might or might not have something to do with it. Considering what the Architect said ("You played a very dangerous game"), she could have done that so peace between two side can happen, not just for one chance only, but likely so for foreseable future by Neo & Trinity. At least, that's what I think anyway, so it's a bit stretch 😆
As for if would be better if Lana still around future Matrix movies? Well, in my opinion, I would like Lana still stick with Matrix stuff. I dunno if someone else can do Matrix stuff without Lana being part of it. Who knows, really. I guess time will tell.
Lana wachowski didn't even think to ask Lawrence fishburne or Hugo weaving to come back and reprise their roles. She also didn't work with her Sibling and most of the same ppl who worked on the last three.

I think I know why none of the 'originals' were recasted as their prior roles is due to perhaps they having had unplugged so the Matrix had no files to base them on, so they could only create facimilies. Or rather Neo could only do so since there was only him and Trinity's visuals to compare with.
Also here is a funny question, just like with the first movie and Tasty Wheaties..... How do we know that the matrix translated strawberry's taste is even correct with how the original real world-strawberry had tasted...? Mmmmh?
Always a funny thought to think if we a regular person from now would even find a functional similarity in taste.
A slightly more interesting question, how do we know that you’re perception of the taste of strawberry, and my perception of it, are the same thing? How do we know that the color red for you is the same for me? Just because we grow up and are taught the labels of these things doesn’t mean that we all experience them in the same way as everyone else. A colorblind person could probably pick out most colors with their proper name, but are they actually seeing the same color I’m seeing? Maybe red for them is actually green to me, but since we only know our own perception the labels we were taught are the same for each of us despite seeing two different colors, or tasting different things.

If everyone was blind and we had to agree what was red due to a texture difference in the touch of it... then our perceptions of it and what is imagined would very much be a question of 'what do people think when they are told a thing is red'.

In case you dont know, Fishburn wasnt cast as in the Matrix storyline he is dead. He dies in the game which was said to be canon from the Wackowskis, he demands the machines return Neos body to Zion and reverts back to terrorist tactics in the Matrix to force them to, he is set up and killed.

Maybe, maybe not. I think critics these days are very hard to please or that the original was so good that all other Matrix movies get mixed reviews.
I'm a big fan of all three and now four, I think you guys were pretty spot on also, I liked the story, the performances were good but I was a little disappointed by the fight scenes, I was hoping for that Matrix epic stuff not that it was bad though.
Agreed on the fight scenes. I came in with a high expectation. But probably should've kept more of an open mind. Some cool spots, but nothing like the trilogy.
I didn't really have that many expectations because it's been years since I saw the original movie (I loved it, still the best one of these). I also only saw the other two once years ago. So, I can't say I was dissapointed... I love that Neo and Trinity got another change.
My rating is maybe 3.7. It wasn't a bad movie, it wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed watching it.
Oh I was so disappointed with this. Eventually I came around to accept it as ok, though the worst of them, but I was heartbroken at the time this was what we got. The original Morpheus would have helped immensely, but it was a bit too dull either way. And I HATED they set Trinity up with a family that wasn't Neo. There was just so much that was a let down. It actually felt a bit too much "Remember this? And this? and this?" Too many callbacks to the original.
I just didn't get it. How is niobe alive but much older than neo and trinity. What happened to zion? How the hell did rhey end up back in the matrix? The film literally offers no answers. I love the actors and lana wachowski but this was not a good sequel.
All I can say is. Fuck this movie, what a waste of time. They can do sooooo much with the Matrix universe and they decide this piece of shit. I’m glad I didn’t pay money and used my gift card instead to pay for this movie.
I feel like I'll like this movie a lot more in the future. The fight scene chorography did seem a bit off though. Some of the ideas presented did seem interesting. All in all felt like an unneeded sequel on first watch.
Reason why fishburne isn't in the movie is cause they never brought it up to him. He said it himself and it makes sense because if he's willing to do john wick movies then i dont see why this would be any difference unless he was never told. As for smith, scheduling issues with other projects

I love all four of the Matrix films. I honestly don't understand why it's getting so much hate. It's a great movie.
And unfortunately I think that a lot of the hate is coming from bigots who don't understand what the Matrix films are about.
Just found your channel a few days ago. Been enjoying binge watching. My girlfriend and I saw the originals several times each in theaters and have watched them many times at home. As for this movie, we didn't enjoy it very much. It had some good parts(I like NPH's character), but it just fell flat with us. It felt like a fan service cash grab. I would go with one of your lower scores of 3.9 ...out of 10.
This movie was a win for me, I was just so happy to finally see Neo and Trinity get to finally be together--it's what they deserved all along and I was sad they never got it in the OG Trilogy.
That said I of course have my issues: #1 is the awful Agent Smith recasting. If you're going to recast, at least get someone who has some gravitas and weight to their performance. This guy was so forgettable and milquetoast, it was awful.
I did like the movie. Granted it wasn’t as good as the other matrix movies. The fight scenes didn’t flow well for me. Meaning they didn’t seem as good as in the first movie. I would rate this as a 4 on the answer scale.

If the only thing was new castings, like saying the new oracle broke the movie, meh. I can understand it, but not a real story breaker. I also love that Billy Madison is what you think is the height of cinema, but you know Happy Gilmore can't think past The Waterboy.
I really liked the plot. It is the execution of fighting sequences that was such a huge disappointment for me. In the previous films the fighting scenes were bringing in me such emotions as awe, excitement, adrenaline and I just wanted to re-watch every scene and every movement again and again. Here it was just a huge pile of bodies, chaotic movements without any fluidity in them and repetition and repetition of the same moves. Also I was so frustrated with nobody being able to shoot properly. Like there is a whole rain of bullets and like heck nobody could possibly land the damn bullet.
I just loved that Neo and Trinity are finally got to be together. One of the most favourite couples in the history of cinematography for me. They deserved their happy ending. Also I was really let down by the OST. Can't remember any music from the film except the one from montage.
p.s. 1) About including our reality into the film (the scene when they discussed the new game) I hated it so much! That was the same as the 1st ep of 3rd season of Sherlock BBC, when they included fans' theories into the plot. That was unnecessary and just spoiled both an episode of Sherlock for me and left an unpleasant feeling here in Resurrection as well; 2) The hell that French exile was doing there...Like wth was that; 3) I understand that it was necessary for the plot, but at the same time, the amount of nostalgia and flashbacks from the previous movies was too much. It just showed me how I wished the Resurrection was at least 45% as perfect as the Matrix. At those moments I just wished to leave the theatre.
All fair points made here! And totally agree on the action. The trilogy had a lot of innovations for the actions.
French guy was for fan service. The guy survived program halocaust, now he is hiding as hobo, scared for his life. He talked like typical old guy who doesn't like anything in new world.
Smith needed to be introduced to Neo and audience. It was perfectly done by including French guy with his minions. So Neo could deal with Smith while other guys were beating up minions.

I thought, action-wise, the movie was absolute crap compared with any of the others. Even just judging on the action itself, not a lack of action or anything.
That said, after watching it a couple times. The story line is pretty decent. I don't mind the movie, it had a really high bar to hit, it's hard to separate that sometimes.

This movie is like a Frozen Lasagna reheated in the micro wave.
Its still Lasagna, but its Miles away from what Mom's Homemade Lasagna used to be.
I do believe that this movie is purposefully bad, i mean the Meta Joke at the beginning where Smith tells Neo that "WArner Bros called and they want a sequel, with or without us, so we might as well do it ourselfs"
Where Lana Wachovski did it in Spit, cause the studio would've done it anyways.
Now not to say that there is no interesting ideas or concepts.
The Machines having a presence outside the Matrix and helping the Humans to rebuild the world is a good one, some Machines joining Human Hovercrafts crews is a neat thing, even tho they don't do much or have much presence.
Matrix Ressurections is a flow of Good ideas and Concepts with a really bad Execution.

Whole concept with including Matrix trilogy in their world is original, dialogues between Mr Anderson and Analyst were cool, Machines who are allied with humans is cool, the war between machines is cool, the way they heisted Trinity hacking her tubes was cool. Mr Anderson's drama was close enough to Truman's show. I felt really bad for him. The whole Neo vs Architect scene was cool.
