    The primary difference between the V.1 and V.2 is power output, and after testing the V.1, it was more powerful than I thought. And there's not much difference in power, but there's a little. The V.2 cranks out about 8W on VHF, and 7.6W on UHF. Not really enough to write home about. The sound quality is superb, about the same as the Baofeng H6 (an evil twin). It is a 10W radio and you may want to order that instead.

      It does fit, but the slots in the battery itself do not align, so you do have to charge the battery attached to radio (no charging a spare battery while radio is in use). As much value as USB-C charging adds, it is nice to still have a desktop drop in charge option.

    • @Transmission1

      Thanks for the comment! As far as I know the main difference between the V1 and V2 is the output power. The only way to spot this is by removing the battery and inside the compartment is a sticker with the serial number and product name followed by (V1) or (V2).

    A very nicely equipped radio station, your package also includes a CD as a bonus, which my version didn't have, but that doesn't matter. I have already downloaded the necessary programming software. But the performance I saw in your video is not the same at every selected frequency. I understand that the higher the power of the radio station, in this case up to 10W, the greater the range will be? Or does it depend on the correctly chosen antenna and its sensitivity, signal gain, etc.???
    In my opinion, this radio is comparable to: WOUXUN KG-UVD1P, dualband VHF/UHF, with which I also captured signals that cannot be captured on this model: BAOFENG UV-5R, the sensitivity and transmission power will be somewhat lower there than: Baofeng UV- 13 For. I don't have a power measuring device. So I can't compare it. I base it on experience and observation

    I use Motorola PMR radios when snowboarding. They work really well. The 'privacy codes' mean we dont hear other people on the channel. However there are a few issues I'd like to address:
    1) My Motorolas don't have a port for a headset.
    2) The batteries are NiMH and dont seem to last very long. I'd prefer Li-Ion.
    3) Batteries have to be charged in the radios.
    4) They require the Motorola proprietary chargers. (Which is more kit to take snowboarding and give to everyone on the trip).
    This radio seems to solve all of those issues. It has a headset port, USB-C charging on the battery itself (so each person can charge their own radio with their phone charger), lithium ion batteries, and a lot more power to boot.
    My question is: do they support the Motorola-style 'Privacy codes'? Can they limit what we receive to only our group? And if so, is it also compatible with Motorola PMR radios? IE could we have some of the group on Baofengs and some on Motorolas, with a particular privacy code turned on and all be able to hear each other? (Power levels notwithstanding).
    Thank you!

  • @johnroberts6695
    @johnroberts6695 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wish you would run a comparison between {Version 1} with {Version 2}. I'd like to see a range test with v.1 and v.2 on the HIGH setting and LOW settings, using the same antennas. The v.1 model is about 4-5 watts; the v.2 model would be about 6.5-7.5 watts.
    The higher power model is, many pundits say, not nearly as important as the _antenna_ one uses. I'm uncertain this is the case. If true, the range should be about the same; if not, the v.2 model should have superior penetration and range. If false, the v.1 and v.2 should have about the same range, with no change in penetration.

    • @Transmission1
      @Transmission1  ปีที่แล้ว

      I only have the V2 version of this radio but it's true that there isn't much difference in range between 4 watts and 8 watts. The antenna is much more important. Most of the time I can run the radio on mid power and still make all the contacts plus save a bit of battery life. As there is only a few dollars difference in the the price of the two radios I'd always choose the V2 model.

    • @johnroberts6695
      @johnroberts6695 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Transmission1 » Yeah, that may be the way to go, but in favor of the V.1, the battery power may keep you going much longer without sacrificing much power in the process. If one finds any benefit in the power output between 4W and 8W, yes, by all means go with the extra power, but if you're not seeing any real benefits in range, see if you're getting any benefits in battery power. If you are staying on the air longer, that may be where the sweet spot is.
      I initially started chasing power --- uhhhnnnlimittted pooooowwwwer!!! in my HTs. Now I'm mellowing out in my old age. It dawned out on me that range and power aren't as closely related as I'd originally thought, or hoped.

    • @Transmission1

      Sounds like the unit is locked or programmed to disable the transmit. I've no idea to be honest but sounds like you should return the unit for a replacement as I've never seen that happen.

      I don't know if you ever found it but it's located here: www.abbree.cn/download/ - look in the Baofeng section and it's under UV-13 pro. They renamed it recently as it used to be called P15UV - it's the same software but as usual the Chinese make a number of models that share the same firmware/system board so it's not always obvious.

      I watched video about uv5-r 8wt, I can say they are pretty much the same level (uv5-r on some frequencies has even more power). The only advantage about this radio station is type-c charger.

    • @Transmission1

      I think the UV-16 is simply an updated UV-5R. it's not the same menu system as this one so they don't have many similarities.

    How long does it take to charge the battery with USB-C-Cable?
    Does it make any difference what cable and charger are used (like fastcharge-/turbocharge with cable and charger from smartphone)?

    • @Transmission1
      @Transmission1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it makes much difference as it only has one charge rate - kind of slow! I don't hand around watching it charge but I'm guessing around 3-4 hours. I've tried iPad chargers and others and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

    • @Jigamal
      @Jigamal ปีที่แล้ว

      The UV-13 Pro V2 battery seems to ignore power from higher power setups, meaning ones that provide PD. For example, my 30W phone wall charger with a type-c to type-c cable is ignored (no charge). The same occurs with a portable battery (that can do PD) when using a type-c to type-c cable, but the same battery using a type-a to type-c does charge (again, slowly).
