  • @MaierFlorian
    @MaierFlorian 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, in order to have that crit stuff automated without the API, you have to use the sheet attack itself, there everything is built in for you. You could even go into the attack itself and replace the 2d6 with the 2d6ro

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great point about building it into the sheet, or using a different roll template. I think I may do a video on that sort of thing in the future. Thanks for watching!

    8:51 was exactly what I needed for scaling damage dice for spells like Firebolt (where the scaling isn't even because why would we make math easy?)
    For anyone interested, the formula for something like Firebolt scaling looks like the following:
    [[[[1+{5,11,17}

  • @simondw2000

    Thanks for the vid Nick. I always learn stuff from you. Out of curiosity, is there any reason not to just do the Great Weapon Fighting calculation within the "Attacks & Spellcasting" section of the character sheet?? You can enter 2d6ro

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You're totally right, Simon. Great Weapon Fighting just makes for a good example on how to demonstrate the concept of automatically rerolling dice. I used the default template because the text fields on the character sheet are kinda small, and it's easier for me to explain when I have more real estate. I might do another video in the future on how to take full advantage of all the features in the character sheet for stuff like that. Thanks for watching, and happy gaming!

    Hi Nick, love your videos! I notice you're using Notepad++ to create your macros. I was wondering how you go about using it specifically to help format your macros and what settings you have it set to etc. Thanks, keep up the great quality work!

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jackson - Glad you like the videos! I don't use anything special in Notepad++ for the macros - mainly I use it so I can show the text in a bigger font in the videos.

  • @MarkOfTheDragon
    @MarkOfTheDragon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The video is well put together and the information presented is pretty decent, but I genuinely have to wonder... why?
    Pulling attributes from the sheet means you already have a sheet that does all this automatically and in a more graphically pleasing way... why would you use a manual Default Template macro? 9/10 times folks using the 5e sheet will already have the bulk of these methods in place already.
    I can absolutely see the benefit to non-standard games or games without a built-in character sheet (We had to use these methods before character sheets were even a thing with Roll20). The rest of the tutorial, showing roll manipulations, math logic, etc is spot on!

    • @NickOlivo
      @NickOlivo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally fair question. The 5e sheet doesn't handle Great Weapon fighting or Halo of Spores - you have to manually roll (or re-roll) for those, and lots of players and DMs want combat to be as fast as possible. As for Eldritch Blast, yes, that is included in the sheet, but this shows how to incorporate special effects. If the default template isn't your thing, I have another video that shows how to use the templates that are specific to the 5e sheet here - m.th-cam.com/video/akkZdg4--rE/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching, and happy gaming.

    • @zero11010
      @zero11010 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NickOlivo to handle crit you just add the key phrase cs after the die roll. Then you use the greater than symbol and your target number.
      You can combine this with halfling reroll on 1.
      D20cs1
      That tells it to crit on 20. Then you can use the crit call to tell it which dice to roll in the case of a critical hit. And it also tells it to reroll on a natural 1.

    Is it possible to have a special effects target 2 different tokens? For example I have 2 trolls in opposite directions and shoot both with an eldritch blast, is there anyway to make the special effect trigger twice? Can I add it to the macro twice?

    Actually you can have attack rolls roll crit damage only when you roll a crit. It's just a different template at least on the OGL sheet. &{template:atkdmg} {{charname=Darmin}} {{rname=Spear, +2}} {{mod=+10 + 0}} {{r1=[[1d20 +10+0[CUSTOM]]]}} {{attack=1}} {{damage=1}} {{dmg1flag=1}} {{dmg1=[[1d6+9]]}} {{dmg1type= Piercing(One-Handed)}} {{crit1=Crit: [[1d6]]}} {{dmg2flag=1}} {{dmg2=[[1d8+9]] | [[2d6]] | [[1d8]]}} {{dmg2type= Piercing(Two-Handed) | Giant | Radiant}} {{crit2=Crit: [[1d8]] | [[2d6]] | [[1d8]]}} {{normal=1}}
