    Some people on this post have commented with uneducated statements that you will be weakened in some way if the "opponent fights with closed fist" Hey, just saying, Professor Wally Jay and his son both have already considered this proposition, there are techniques for that scenario as well. I have been studying Martial Arts since I was 19, and I can tell you, "Pain makes Believers."
    As a Martial artist a person should consider all Kata's and Techniques, makes for a larger toolbox. Truth be told I have not seen a more formidable Martial Art since studying Small Circle Jujitsu. Professor and Grandmaster Leon Jay have passed down a legacy for many true Martial Artist to envy. Professor Wally was the best and his son is even more impressive. The legacy continues. Kokua !!!

      True!! In reality it is often difficult to keep a tight closed fist for long. A little pain, shock, or strike to nerves can open up a closed fist. But if a closed fist, can still do wrist locks, arm bars (tricep tendon), arm locks, throws etc. At some point his hand will open up. A little strike to wrist or bending wrist will open hand up. Oh I was wonder what he was doing to his kid. That nasty base of finger nail thing he does. OUCH!! So where is Leon Jay now? Wasn't he in London/England? Did he marry an English woman? Or is he in California or Hawaii now? I haven't kept up. I had trained under Eddie, the second guy in this video, for awhile, a long time ago. He was fast as lightening and assure in all his techniques. Don't know if he is #2 guy now or what. Such as in knife defense tech when guy holding knife straight at your face/neck. Do the 2 hand disarming tech, forcing his wrist over. Knife goes flying, his hand opens up. No matter how tight he closes his hand. I worked out a continuation of that technique, flow right into a Figure 4 Lock on his arm/wrist. You have to move into him, and turn slightly to the side, to outside of his arm. You'll figure out what I mean.

      Sorry for the late reply but calling SCJ the most formidable art you've ever seen means you need to watch a UFC fight my friend. All of these moves are great in theory but don't work in the cage or in just a good sparring session. If i put the professor up against a muy thai or well rounded mma person w/ a purple belt in bjj they're gonna beat the shit out of this guy. Somebody who is really attacking isn't just staying around watching their hand get broken, theyre reaching into their pocket with their other hand for a gun. Bullets make believers faster.

      Leon is a piece of shit. Ed Melaugh was left to be soke dai of the system by Wallys wishes then that piece of shit took over small circel, banned Ed (whom taught practical self defense) and turned small circle into a laughable pressure point mcdojo. Fuck him. Wally would be turning in his grave.

      Karm A Ok wait until you find a rare individual who has acheived 9th dan, and is a master of Takeda Ryu Aiki Jujitsu. The first thing you try will be the last time you're able to use that hand again, and if you wanna act smart, we destroy the entire arm, it will never work the same again, I know for sure, 35 years in the game and when it occurs in reality, there is no thought. I ain't saying there are not other equally effective forms, this is not a sport, this is warfare.

    • @shermalepley9888
      @shermalepley9888 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is most adventageous to reach out your hand for him to grab, and then pulling it away take him down, with the opposite hand. This is as much mental psychic and a study of actually reading your opponents mind as he intends to attack, this is when you act not react.

    That's another key element of SCJJ. Keep contact with your chest, keep your chest into technique. One time some young punk, taller than I am, grabbed my shirt and pushed me up against the wall. I executed a wrist throw, made sure I kept his fist tight to my chest, and put my chest down and into his wrist/the throw. His feet shot straight up in the air, his mouth and eyes bugged wide open. It was like he levitated in the air for a moment Then SLAM to the ground. Continued the wrist lock on the ground.

    Finger locks absolutely work. I trained and competed in Brazilian jiu jitsu and there's a reason finger locks are illegal, it's because they are crazy dangerous. You and can only grab 3 fingers for good reason. It happened all the time when I trained jiu jitsu where I could have totally bent someone's finger back. If youre not in shape or a women finger locks are the way to go fursur.

      Thats why I scratch my head at what Wally was doing with all the nonsense finger locking crap when instead he could have taught a sick small circle version of judo grappling instead. it could have rivaled bjj and perhaps edged it out using the push pull principle in ground grappling. Such a shame he went the standup finger lock route with all that talent he had.

    • @charlesschneider5385
      @charlesschneider5385 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +sharkfinnigan - No doubt you're a tough guy, and, a broken finger happens in a second (or less). There's lots of pain, certainly, but the body's endorphins mitigate the specific nerves aroused. Manipulating a joint to THE VERGE OF DISLOCATION puts constant pain on different sources (notice no lock is held for more than a few seconds). The body can't adjust, normalize, or mitigate that migrating pain, and I guarantee you (having had Professor Jay, among others, torque me to tears), you will submit. Guaranteed.

      @stevebledsoe71 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Finger locks work. In the 90s I was a cooler at a very large, very rowdy night club. Over the years I tried all kinds of different fighting techniques. I learned dozens of wrist and finger locks along with all the other joint locks and I settled on just a handful of very effective locks and discarded the rest. It was way easier for me to master couple great locks that could apply to almost any situation. I promise if you break someones finger and dont let go, keep pressure and keep changing angles they will do anything you want them to do. Provided they are not on pcp. I have never seen any pain compliance technique work on a person under the influence of pcp.

    • @outoffilmproductions

      Considering you could accomplish either. And some fights end up in a grappling match--that's where finger locks come in easy.

    • @MrDefault08
      @MrDefault08 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And you call yourself the Clueless guy lol. Point is, the knowledge is there, if I had a chance in a more serious fight to put a finger lock on a guy, I will for 2 reasons. 1.) it hurts a lot, and in close quarters if the opportunity is there ill take it(it may be easy actually, noone expects it). Its like another fighter said about biting.. "Going in with a plan to bite is a good way to lose your teeth", but if the opportunity opens, lots of opportunities n ground fighting, have it ready and 2.) if you break the finger, the opponent probably won't use the hand effectively if he will(and likely may) continue to fight. Anderson does have a point though, going to the ground in a real fight is unlikely too, but good fighters don't ignore ground fighting.

    • @chrisbaker9965
      @chrisbaker9965 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      These techniques are not applied to a fist, no one fights with their fist clench all the time through the whole fight. When an opponent grapples or wrestles with you then the hands are usually open trying to grab you, thats when you can apply these techniques. who the hell would try to apply technique off of a punch.

    • @trainofthaughtify
      @trainofthaughtify 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris Baker as I said before, low percentage. And so what if you break a finger, adrenaline will mask that pain. What would you rather break, a finger or an arm?

  • @Seegie16

    How does Wally go from a super well respected Judo champ to this thumb locking nonsense. Seriously? He took about 100 steps backwards and created a bologna system of self defense from a real battle tested system.

    • @mofogie
      @mofogie 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      twice_baked potato maybe because its not bologna? Its for different usages. Think of it as a supplement to core self defense skills. Youre not going to replace boxing, wrestling, and jiujitsu with it, but its nice to learn extra tools. The payoff of this one is being able to control a situation without having to do much damage.

    • @Seegie16
      @Seegie16 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      notf noio no dude. 2 years ive spent doing scjj. i cant even getva finger lock on my gf without her wiggling out and laughing at me. perhaps it works for wally. but if it takes 30 years to master. hell with it.

    • @mofogie
      @mofogie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You must be doing it wrong then, or telegraphing it. I use it now and then in grappling, for breaking grips, or submitting when control is achieved. It does have its uses.

    • @Seegie16
      @Seegie16 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well thats my point. It can be utilized on the ground where you can create a real sturdy base. But on the feet like he is doing with Leon. Lets face it there is no solid base unless perhaps you are wally himself and a 4 degree black belt or higher in the system. Even when practcing these moves with sc brown belts when I want i can wiggle out and very easily. When we had wally at our school doing a seminar back in 96. There was no chance of wiggling out. So I do agree with you. I am off but the mastery of this stuff on the feet is a long long road. Wheras as a white belt with 6 months of bjj I can get taken down by a 200 pund dude, give him a hip bump sweep land on top then head and arm choke him all in less that 1 minute. Now to me thats practical and fairly easily learned and applied.
