- Pseudo-damask is a rarely-seen structure in the conventional ‘how-to’ literature - but it is a fascinating textile that deserves to be woven on drawlooms everywhere. In the first half of this video, we examine the structure from a highly personal perspective, considering different variations along the way. In the video’s second half, we set it up on the drawloom and demonstrate one way to weave it.
Try pseudo-damask on your loom today!
Produced by Amy Blair.
Thanks for a great video Amy!
Another fantastic video! Thank you Amy for the study, understanding the structure and deciphering for us.
Thank you for watching and your kind comment! It's been ages since I did a structures video - I had to get my brain in gear, that's for sure 🤣
I had seen the Complex Weavers article and wasn't necessarily drawn in (lol) by the structure, but your yarn choices really emphasize the yummy yummy texture possibilities here. I will definitely have to add this to my too-long list of things to do on the drawloom. Thank you much for the inspiration, and the work you put into delivering it to all of us. I am glad you are alive in the world and making such beautiful things.
I am so happy to see an new video from you. You do such good teaching videos. I will admit it takes me several watch throughs to soak up all the information.
Thank you very much. They are dense, I know, but I try to put in stuff for every kind of learner. And I really appreciate your bumping up my stats 😉
You are back! Hooray. So interesting
Thanks Sara! It's good to be back.
Another fantastic video!, really I missed your videos
do not stope
Thank you very much! Last year was a busy one for teaching and special project, but I have several videos planned for 2024.
Fantastic video! Thank you!!
you're right it is very similar to lampas, which i found i enjoyed a lot when i made some cushions.. i was a strong summer and winter fan but tbh the lampas pipped it.. the false damask truly is very similar. I found making my warp evil but then i was also doing it on my louet sectional, but indeed this looked great.. one thing i do need to do this year is weave some covers for my couch, its looking a little threabear and a nice bit of strong weaving will help hide any issues :D plus, if that wears out, its a great excuse to make something else :D
Liz, it is great for upholstery. I am making a set of sofa cushions out of this warp, experimenting with different ratios of pattern to background. Like you say, they will hide a whole host of sins. The only issue is the wool is so clickable for cat-claws 🤣
@@DuellingRabbits Id probably go with cotton or linen, although i can also get carpet wool, the breed of sheep would make a huge difference, geting one of the corser breed would make for longer wearing and more sturdy, frankly nothing on earth is pet proof :P
This is incredible. Im form Argentina, i was looking for good practical lessons. Your channel elevated my weaving as no other. Thanks!! Do you recommend buying the book you showed on the video?
Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words very much and am glad the channel is helpful. It is a labor of love, that's for sure. All the books I mention in my videos are ones I use heavily in my own practice. Although the Hoskins is written for single-harness looms, it is extremely rigorous in its examination of structures and full of inspiration.
