As a rule of thumb, in most turns, when you are on the left foot, you turn left and on the right foot, you turn right. With the spiral turns it is the opposite. On the right foot, you turn left and on the left foot, you turn right.
Sort of. That is partially correct. You do typically begin rotating to the left around the left foot … IF you are facing forward (and the same for turning right around the right foot). BUT it is just the opposite when traveling backwards (turn to the left beginning around right and vice versa). The same is true for both pivot turns AND chaine turns. Spiral turns are rarely used in two step, but you are correct about those.
