I really like your comment about bringing him up and then down . To regulate his emotions. My mare can esculate on the lunge when fired up. I always keep her at walk until she's calm after a lot of ground work. Then a relaxed trot, and only csnter once she's fully relaxed.

Sir, you have a gift. Thank you for clarifying the ruling out of a medical cause. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have stomach aches when I think about how many horses are physically at the end of their ability to re-condition and who are pushed ( and punished) because of a medical cause!

I luv your training methods Ryan. I found you by accident and haven't been able to stop watching your videos. I haven't been watching long but would trust that you would always have the horses fully vet checked b4 you rode them. I'm in Australia. I'd like to join your patreon page but $10 Aussie dollars a month at the moment would work out a fair bit more in US dollars, so I'll have to stick to TH-cam videos.
I think you're incredibly kind and sensible with each horse I've seen you work with, even if you have to tap them to keep them out of your bubble. Keep up the great work and thanks for all the great information 😊🐴

He is setting up his leads a lot better, and more defined. I think more inside, forward calf, and outside back heal might help him balance in the turns, and get his hind feet under him. It's just that i only see you use inside forward pressure, but no back heal on his outside leg, driving him forward, and collecting him. I know that's a lot more pressure, but his gait is choppy, and quick, not smooth and powerful, but, as you say he needs more strength conditioning, and his collection will be easier for him. Love watching you connect with these troubled horses, and how carefully, and skillfully, you work them through their fears and confusion. To see the emotional changes you bring them through is just genius. You also treat the owners with the same skill, and care, putting horse and owner in a great partnership that could last a lifetime, as a bonus. Great job, thanks.

I loved this. I have a 20yrs exracer. I have had her 5 years . She has gone from a sack of bones to a really great looking horse. She used to fall over everything buy as we have grown together She is so much better and shr dies think where her feet are. My stable is made in an old cow she'd with a good 12inck step to the feed station. She stands with her front feet onbthe step and when I ask her to back up she definitely feels for that ledge. I am so frustrated at the moment I feel time is slipping away shevus good to go but I am now waiting for both my hip replacements. I keep looking at her and praying she will ge able to take part in these activities when I am physically fit to do the work with her. She is really lovely she is very well behaved and dosent have and really bad habits. I am trying to be so patient. And she can loose a leg on a corner definite weakness thier.

Your message at around 08:20 of this video is sound advice. It's applicable to horses and several facets of life. This is just one of the reasons I have a difficult time straying from your coaching. You provide coaching in a simple form that can be followed. I took a riding lesson and discovered myself repeating, "I don't know what you mean by that. What does that mean?" It boils down to this--I am not at a place of learning new concepts like half-halt, full-halt, etc. Although, admittedly, somehow the half and full halt method seems to work with him and for the first time, I finally got him to understand when to stop. At the same time, I'm taking a few steps back to listen to your principal. The message I heard is, "slow down to speed up." Thank you.

Who wouldn’t love to see you rehab a Grand Prix dressage horse who’d been subject to rolkur (sp?)? It would be wonderful to see the release, relief and relaxation the poor animal is desperate for and truly, finally deserves. It would be so satisfying, like this video is. (I’d love an arena and play structures like this.) Thanks for your excellent content. Cheers!😎

He’s really improving! I’m glad you explained that he’d had a full physical evaluation. I thought in the original video that he might be coping with a minor injury even though he was improving. (Not aware your Mrs. is a therapist!) He’s definitely more relaxed and balanced physically and emotionally. It’s super clear he’s getting his needs met! ❤️. I love seeing him learn more about what his feet are actually doing. I hope we get to follow this horse a bit longer.

You truly are gifted my friend. What you and your wife have done for this horse is beyond impressive. You are are true horseman in the fact you give every horse- no matter what breed, registered or not- a chance to be their best. Its beautiful to watch this horse develop a trusting relationship with you and to gain the confidence to try tasks that would have, a short time ago, been nearly impossible for him! And thank you for addressing "The Haters"! Per Joe Rogan... Haters are all failures- 100% across the board. No one that is truly brilliant at anything is a hater.

    I love all your videos.
To me, this is what sets you apart.
You & Emily have the ability to work as a team & it could not be a better place for a horse than to be under your care, as a couple.
Your open mindedness, willingness & ability to adapt. Both with your particular areas of equine knowledge & understanding.

I really enjoy your videos. The previous video with this boy and this one demonstrate how correct training can make such an incredible difference with the horses ability to be mindful of where he's placing his feet and in keeping him balanced. In the last video he even had difficulty standing square and was very uneven in his hind legs and through the back. In this video, he looks like another horse. He stands beautifully and the improvement in his trot is wonderful. His willingness to put all feet on the pedestal and plank was so impressive. I think his progress is remarkable. ❤🌹

Hi! Could you make a video just showing all the obstacles being used that were there in the background at 24:00 one day, please?
They look interesting and I'd like to see any horse going through them! Knowing the purpose of each one would be also very educational :)
Also great video, I can definitely see the progress with this horse!
I used to ride a public horse with similar issue, appaloosa draft cross, she was very massive and she couldn't balance her weight in the corners, so she would speed up instead of slowing down, she turned out to have a very stiff neck and that's where she was losing all her balance
I started doing stretching exercises with her plus a lot of turns and tiny circles everytime i rode her, after one month she became balanced, because now she can easily bend her head to the inside, I wish my stable had those mountain trail obstacles, maybe one day I can convince the owners to add some, it would be useful for both riders and horses

At what point did you start adding that canter back into his workouts, ? I'm taking my anxious gelding back to basics to help improve his overall balance and physical conditioning and have been hesitant to start bringing it back in because it's always been a problem area with both rushing and leaning into the inside - based on what I'm seeing here it seems like starting in the round pen or indoor might be my best bet and for sure working on it on the ground as well - but I don't want to ask too much of him too soon.

OTTBs, once trained to their new job make great trail horses. Lungs and legs for days and often well bred meaning a sharp mind. JUst don;t buy fine canons and you'll have a mountain trail horse that will step right out and keep a fast walk all day long. Keeping your mule string moving out is critical to avoiding wrecks. Bored mules do ornery s**t... Thorobreds and Morgans are good breeds for a working trail horse. Most 1/4s I have packed off of you have to peddle them all day long cuz they just want to stop if they ain't chasing a cow.

SOme of those circles you can see his neck bowed outside, inside at the pole and nose outside...weird but everything from the shoulders forward is used for balance so if the horse has a a weak hind you can see some weird stuff up front. Like me. I am OLD with a ginat set of shoulders and a beer belly. If I want to lean forward I have to push my butt to the rear and vice versa. If I don;t get it right I stumble

That's great, however he's still loosing his back end when he's actually being ridden. Meaning moving. Not stepping up or down on something.
I'm not saying you or your wife are not knowledgeable. My horse that was in training ended up very lame. 2 vets checked him out. Did blocks X-rays, etc. I finally took him to Carbondale Il equine hospital. He had a torn suspensory ligament, which was not detected until an MRI was done. He was so stoic it confused the vets as well. I still say he has something going on in his spine affecting his back end.

Next time a person starts to question their horse, I invite them to pretend like they are the horse and not the rider... I've worked on several horses that crow hopped half way out to the road in the morning. Heck, when the straw boss rang the morning bell for vittles, I confess, in my mind, I crow hopped to the kitchen ;) SOmetimes you got let them have it and let them figure it out on their own. You can lead a cowboy to water but you can't make him think...lol

My horse has a tendency of pulling its head down to the ground when I'm riding it, he is tame but its this behaviour that bothers me
